Ref: Your links. So you've got a bunch of links to places that disagree with the Catholic church teaching and the way they run their church. And you've got some pictures of ETs in artwork. So what's any of that got to do with Americans and their Constitutional right to practice their faith as they wish?

So, anyhow, should we care what the catholic hierarchy is wanting for the US?

You should be THANKING them for standing up for the Constitutional rights of Americans.

But instead ... we get a bunch of yutz's screaming about the inquisition which happened 500+
years ago in Europe (and 2,500 people died) and we get others falsely claiming the church killed
50 million people. I'm sure all that anti-Catholic drivel makes the Obama administration very happy.
It makes their job easier to chip away at the Constitutional rights of Americans.

I assume your talking about the contraception bill.
Listen, when a person is hired for a job, they are hired for their skills, not for their religious outlook. They get insurance with said job.
The catholic, islamic, or any other religious institution may have a moral objection to stuff, but their belief should not interfere with that womans protected rights as an employee.
The catholic institution may have issues with hospitals in general, thinking you should simply pray away the hurt, sick, etc..and medicine interferes with gods plan.

Employers cannot decide what type of insurance you will or won't have based on their moral value...they must give insurance as per the law, nothing more, nothing less...your arguing for less. Let this go through and you will find most corporations have sudden issues with things like heart disease, obesity, etc.

There is nothing constitutional about this fight...its a power play that favors corporate interests allowing corporate entities to roll back worker rights. You want soo much to see some sort of socialist takeover that you cheer for a facist takeover in order to provoke a socialist response. Why not stop for a moment and look at the fascism you are supporting, which is hidden under some absolute bull---- about it being even remotely a constitution issue (I guess if you think corporations are people, then ya..maybe you can sort of see that).

Incidently, the catholic church has never been about freedom or supporting the american constitution...the Romans are still the Romans, even 2 thousand years later, they still want to rule the world.

THEIR religion doesn't matter. They are going to work for the Catholic Church so they should know that Catholics are not allowed to help them with their birth control or abortions. It's not about the workers - who can get their birth control anywhere - it's about the rights of those in the Church outreach not to have to go against their faith.

their belief should not interfere with that womans protected rights as an employee.

Women still have a right to birth control and abortion .. just not paid for by the Catholic church.
No one is having their rights interfered with, except the Catholics.

The catholic institution may have issues with hospitals in general, ...

Consideirng that the Catholics have built tons of hospitals and usually put them in the poorest neighborhoods in order to be able to help more people ... poor people who usually wouldn't be able to get health care .. I kinda doubt that they have trouble with hospitals in general.

... thinking you should simply pray away the hurt, sick, etc..and medicine interferes with gods plan.

Considering that the hospitals are full of doctors and modern medicine and surgery teams, etc ...
I'd say that isn't true at all.

Employers cannot decide what type of insurance you will or won't have based on their moral value.

The Catholic Church can decide not to supply free abortions/birth control in their outreaches based on their RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. The Constitition says so.

There is nothing constitutional about this fight...

The government hasn't got a right to infringe upon religious beliefs .. it's Constitutional.

Incidently, the catholic church has never been about freedom or supporting the american constitution...

Apparently the American Catholics ARE ...

Modus Interuptus...

Good morning everyone...

Since, as is usually the case with these threads, feelings are beginning to run a bit hot, headed towards and bothered; may I suggest calming down a trifle?

Actually what I'm saying is...

KNOCK IT OFF, PEOPLE

Discuss the issue, and not each other.

First Amendment to the United States Constitution

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

The government has overstepped and has attempted to impede the free exercise of religion for Americans. The Bishops have called for protests against the government actions. This is not 'one religion massively influencing and determining the governments stance on contraceptives'. Not even close. It is Americans coming together and demanding their Constitutional rights of freedom of faith without government interference.

The type of hatred for a religious community is not really any different than racial prejudice. Several posters have outright condemned 1.13 billion people people in the world based on the wrong-doing of a small percentage of priests.

You will have to answer to the Lord for your hatred of any of His creation. Perhaps it is the Lord you really hate.

Jesus said: "Love your enemies." You can't? Be aware your hatred will consume and destroy you.

Hate never made the world a better place.

I don't think people are putting this in context.

Those that support this attack on the catholic church should put it in perspective.

Say the government tried forcing;
Jews to work on the Sabbath
Muslims to eat pork
Amish to have electricity

You'd still be for government overstepping its authority?

government oversteps its authority everyday thats nothing new, ie obama's pre crime law

the emperor has spoken... and you seriously think I would defend, much less shill for that. he would have to pay me in the 10 figure range and as the resident authority figure (mod) stated Discuss the issue, and not each other.
so I would protest the government interfering with anyones right to worship, whatever............
I just would not stand with the catholic organised gangster bishops

No-one is asking you to become catholic, or even support catholocism.

But bottom line, if you don't support their protest, you're giving tacit approval for the government to trash the 1st Ammendment in order to further it's own agenda.

Ding Ding Ding!

Seriously, this is a great post Beezzer.

Once you allow the trampling of the 1st Amendment,in all likelihood, the trampling will not stop.
I wish people would take religion out of it,and put it into perspective. Just think of something you would never want the Government to intrude on. Then you will understand, why this is a bad idea.

and as for the government trashing the 1st Ammendment. They allready do that on a daily basis

wrong! The Church's position about contraception is not about sexuality, it is about life and death and abortifacients.
