What is the difference between Simulation Theory and Intelligent Design?

We inhabit a realm contained within an incredibly complex and powerful simulacrum. My question is, did we choose to incarnate here willingly, or were we tricked? Is this a product of the Demiurge, or did the Demiurge and the Archons hijack this reality after its inception at some point? As a type of malicious A.I. software perhaps?
