I've driven past this volcano. It's close to Mexico City. A NW wind would bring in on the city.

However, man has lived with volcanoes for ever. It's not a nighmare, it's a state of life. If you were worried you'd leave. After all SanFran will be shaken to the ground one day and whose leaving town now?

It would be just karma if the Mexicallis had to evacuate to the US; flooding their lands with the very people the Yan'kee has been exploiting into ruin as its drug mules.

Yeah it would have been nice to have the full picture, but oh well. I think I made my point really.

If this became a major eruption, it is feasible that the ash cloud could be driven by a storm front into the Midwest U.S. Cities from Dallas, North to Minneapolis, and East from there could see significant problems.

In the article it states....More than 20 million people live within a 62-mile radius of the volcano's cone; Mexico City is 40 miles to the northwest.

How many do you think should be evacuated if....this Volcano really wakes up.....(?)

We could " hate" those that don't read proper....collect facts...ect

20 million w/ in a 62 mile radious...

Another source says the same....

Millions live....

Just in case you missed reading it....

An iconic backdrop to Mexico City's skyline on clear days, Popocatepetl sits roughly halfway between Mexico City and the city of Puebla — meaning some 25 million people live within a 60-mile radius of the volcano, Quaas said.

"These are figures that obviously alarm and concern us," he said.

So...I ask again...how many would you evacuate if this volcano decides to blow and not slow....?

If people want to live next to an active volcano that s their business. You play with fire you will get burned. Nature has its own way of weeding out stupidity.

To answer your question I would not evacuate any. I would inform them the volcano is active and might blow and tell them to make up their own mind. I dont believe in using fear to control people. If stupid decisions on their part leads to the end of their genetic line then thats just natures way of saying sorry you didnt make the cut. I dont think we should encourage the continuation of stupidity do you?

You think only smart people would evacuate? and all the stupid people would stay?
The opposite would most likely happen. Smart people would start thinking about the odds of it hitting them, "the odds aren't that bad". Stupid people would get scared and run away quickly.
I find it hilarious that most people that want to kill off stupid people are pretty stupid themselves. Everyone loves to think that they are smarter than others, it's usually not the case.

Wow, way to play god mate. Lucky for us your power shines through a keyboard and a delusional mind.

Anyhow, hoping people are safe and make decisions that keep them alive.

This will be a wild ride if the volcano does erupt, I am currently in Mexico city 40 miles away, and let me tell you that if it blows things will get ugly, just the ash alone could potentially have millions displaced, while the nearest towns could be wiped out, I invite anyone to come here and see for themselves the size of the beast, ash has been falling constantly since the 15 of April, I went near the volcano just a day before it began its current activity level, Ill try to upload the pictures soon, for the naysayers, this could affect millions, let me repeat this Millions with ash alone, some of the communities nearby are as poor and uneducated as can be, many of them populated with the indigenous forgotten, few trust the government, many believe that if they leave someone will take their lands away.

In the year 2000 the volcano erupted but the lava didn't affect much, the ash did, it clogged water pipes and the accumulation of materials toppled roofs nearby, but now, a media blackout has been rearing its ugly head, a few days ago newscasts dedicated some time discussing this, but now they barely even mention it, one finds more info on foreign channels than in local ones, and we all know what that means: they are trying to avert panic, something is up, and while no one can predict when or how, they do have a general idea, and its not any good news.

Hopefully things calm down, no one need an eruption of this magnitude, Mexico is the bridge between north and south America, trade routes could be disrupted, its internal economy derailed, and we all know everything is connected, so lets keep an open mind, and hope for the best...

Ill keep this up to date, as soon as I can I will edit some of the video I took on the day I went there...

Its the one on the right, the one of the left is the Iztlaccihuatl, or "sleeping woman", there is an Aztec legend that says that those two volcanoes embody the heart and soul of the land, being lovers, and that the Popocatepetl is waiting for her lover to awaken...

the ancients saw things very differently than we do now...

cheers!

Didn't people predict that there would be a higher number of children with deformities born
in the USA due to the FUKushima Reactor fallout? I suppose ashes drifting down on U.S.
cities from Mexico would not have such catastrophic results... thankfully.

Thats funny because I DONT live near a volcano. OR power lines OR nuclear reactors OR yeah you get the drift. AND IF I did I would move.

You can bet there would be no way in hell i would live there. So think what you want but ill be the one NOT getting burned to death by an erupting volcano.

This was the case when the volcano erupted in Iceland, the cameras placed to monitor the crater caught UFO's coming and going from the crater, This was posted here at ATS. I believe the flap was passed off as a flock of geese..in Iceland..over a volcano..?

way to play god??? Are you that ignorant you dont even know what that means???

I clearly stated that I WOULDNT EVACUATE ANYBODY. I WOULD TELL THEM THE FACTS AND LET THEM DECIDE.

Playing GOD would be me MAKING THEM MOVE. Its not my place to decide another persons fate genius. That is for them to choose.

I feel sorry for these people. I hope nobody is seriously injured or killed.

On a side note, it's time to ramp up your uninsured motorist coverage, because I'm guessing there will be a significant percentage of these people heading illegally to the U.S.

and that guess is based on what exactly?

If 20 million plus people can remain oblivious, more or less....then perhaps this is gonna correct over-poulation in the immediate area of a live volcano. Problem sol-ved...

no your ignorant statement that nature should weed out those you consider stupid is what makes you seem like you are playing god, you have no right to judge the decisions anybody else makes without putting yourself in their shoes, background, history, culture, family there are so many reasons to not move its insane you would insinuate people not wanting to leave their homes as "stupid", and for a second mr. educated thinker why dont you consider some people have nothing else to go to, nothing else to rely on,and no luxury of a "safe place to live" but i wont waste anymore finger energy typing this because according to your asinine philosophy growing up in a dangerous place and not wanting to leave your home makes you stupid.

Another ATS fear thread. Your life could be ended tomorrow, so don't worry about things that may never happen. Its always good to bring awareness to subjects like this and be prepared, but there are so many fear threads on this site about catastrophic events that never seem to happen. Lets hope this one doesn't come to fruition.
This threads title and the beginning statement has a certain fear factor to it which isn't needed.

I didnt say nature should weed out the people i consider stupid....I SAID nature should weed out the stupid.

What do you call someone that lives next to an active volcano??? Brilliant??? Genius?? Paragon??
I dont care how bad your situation unless you have a gun pointed at your head pick your arse up and walk. If you have a house sell it. if you dont just pack your stuff and move. Its only material things. IS it worth dying over? The very fact I have to explain this to you is mind blowing.
