ANY overindulgence in a certain food or drink to this ridiculous extent can cause severe health problems.

It's too bad Coke is getting blamed for this woman's poor choices.
totally agreed, over indulgence of anything will kill you. And lets face it everybody already knows coke is bad for you, no need to put a warning label on it.

Actually, since soda is sold to children, maybe there should be a warning telling them: If you consume this product, you face the risk of addiction and the risk of illness and/or death.

Because you know what? It's true.

I'm guilty of drinking soda (Mountain Dew mainly...the worst out there! lol) but I try to moderate how much I consume. I might drink a soda once or twice a week when having dinner or lunch. It is addicting and luckily, I can fight it off (not completely though, meh)....

I also work in a grocery store so I'm surrounded by the sh*t all the time for hours. It's pretty hard to resist the glorious Mountain Dew...mmmmm.

A person shouldn't even be drinking that much water in a day. Overhydration can cause severe problems and even death. It's actually called "water intoxication." The primary issue is that much liquid will cause a severe electrolyte imbalance in the body and brain.

The kidneys are actually able to process about a liter of water per hour, but forcing them to do so at such a prolonged rate is also damaging.

Possible death by Coke?

Anyway do you think they should put sufficient warning labels on fizzy drinks like this?
Citing the adverse health effects that one can experience from excessive consumption?
.

Oh i don't know, people are still stupid enough to smoke with all the warnings on packets (me included), and with all the knowledge we have on the dangers of smoking you'd think we know better, so i fail to see what "warning labels" could do here, its just a case of excessiveness .Is it feasible to warn against stupidity?

Most likely anyone who consumes coke at such quantities, have other life risking habits as well.

Yes, anyone drinking 8 litres of coke a day is almost certainly making very poor health choices in other areas.

Not to say I don't think coke is bad for you.

It is believed that the excessive Coca Cola caused a reduction in Potassium in this woman. She did not die directly of obesity or diabetic issues.

Potassium is essential in maintaining a healthy electrical sinus rhythm across the heart. Her autopsy showed signs of chronic potassium deficiency and she was complaining of lethargy and other symptoms of low potassium before her death.

Issues with potassium deficiency (Hypokalemia) have been noted in those who drink cola excessively.

Wikipedia article on Hypokalemia.

This woman died of a heart attack, probably caused by an extreme arrhythmia, probably because she had Hypokalemia, probably due to her excessive consumption of Coca Cola.

Someone drank 8 Liters of water a day and died too.

This is true. In fact, I think it was less.

Take a look at this. Water can kill you.

This woman was drinking coca-cola either in an abusive manner or she was dependent on coca-cola.

If her obsession-compulsion was mild she may have had a chance to stop.

However at one point she seems to have crossed the invisible magic line when there was no choice but to drink.

It boils down to the argument is dependency a disease or a moral insuffiency once again.

Unless one knows the structural/immunological brain changes that occur in people with dependency then it is easy to say it is simply a moral insufficiency.

8 litres of Coke a day? well heres what just one will do.... so multiply accordingly and you can see it was sure to kill her, flat out.

It's both. I know of people, myself included, who have kicked dangerous addictions without so much as an intervention with only the will to stop, which can only be had through self respect -- the belief that one deserves better. The toughest physical dependencies and compulsive disorders can be overcome with mind over matter.

I've quit cigarettes, coc aine, alcohol, caffeine, and porn all on my own and I suffer an addictive personality. So, it can be done with a moral understanding.

The OP called the human body fragile.....I beg to differ.
The human body is amazingly durable....if you can consume 8 liters of coke a day and last until 30, that's very impressive. I always have the same thought when I see some cracked out homeless person on the street begging for change. I just think, "man you have clearly been living this way for a while....how are you still going?"

Perhaps if the human body was a little more fragile stuff like high fructose corn syrup and whatever else they put in there would get outlawed or at least come with a warning label. I rarely drink coke...had a few glasses sunday morning at work, but I was hung over beyond belief so I felt it was needed....but when I do I prefer Mexican Coke.(jeez I almost sound like a dos equis ad). Mexican Coke tastes more like I remember Coke tasting like when I was a kid, I don't know if they used cane sugar back then, but there is a HUGE difference in taste. Or more regularly I drink a canned soda called Zevia, it's pretty good and sweetened with stevia leaf instead of sugar, which as far as I know is better for you. The ultimate diet soda, no sugar, no calories, yet sweet and tasty.

A woman died from drinking 8 liters of poison a day?

Must be a slow news day.

I wonder if she was morbidly obese. That would tend to contribute to an early death.

Hell, if in a normal environment you drank 8 liters of WATER a day, your kidneys could shut down and have the same outcome....I don't know if the Coke killed her but that's just ridiculous. Everything in moderation.

at least the woman indulged herself & made herself happy...

she probably had a physiological condition which made-her-drink... instead of drinking making her sick as most responders are seeming to say

i myself 'listen' to what my body wants... a couple of days ago it was Banannas... just out of the clear blue

other times it's raisins or even salted cashews I binge with
I think the gal needed cola in insane amounts or else she might have put a gun to her head instead

too many are being superficially 'Judgemental' on sparse news reports...
let the autopsy results be posted before you all tie her to a burning stake (like Joan of Arc was)

open minds pleeze

If the Aspartame didn't kill her, the phosphoric acid probably ate through the lining of her intestines.

No, no warning labels. People pay for their own folly in different ways. No need for the out of control Nanny State to carry it that far. It's dangerous to even suggest they have any more control as they have too much already. She only harmed herself and that is her business, not mine, not yours and most certainly not the governments.

I'd say the guy has a case for it. Granted the woman probably wasn't really a health conscious person, but 12 litres of coke a day, yeah it's not gonna take long on a diet like that before you wind up dead.

Having said that, I'm dubious as to whether it's the coke or the sugar which is the real culprit here. Too much sugar leads to acidosis, which will destroy any and all of your internal organs. It's just a lottery as to which one goes first.
