OP, you want to live by the "ignorance is bliss" motto.
You don't want to acknowledge the calamities or deprivation of the real world and that's your choice. Do not demand others to do the same however.

Do you know why most stories on the news, here or anywhere, are "bad" stories (which good/bad are relative, but let's put that fact aside)? It's because people are not rewarded for doing what they're expected to. They are only punished and have attention brought to them for violating norms. I can go a whole lifetime without killing someone and I'll never be put in the news for it. I can go out tomorrow and murder 20 people in a church and be put on the news before I even walk out of the building.

I'd just like to see something done about the blatant racism that is spewed by some of the members here.

The gall of someone who claims to know the emotions EVERYONE is experiencing by reading a particular story AND claims to know that the emotion they are all experiencing is "FEAR" is astounding.

I don't experience "fear" when I read those horribly sad stories. The emotion I feel is compassion, empathy. I don't fear for myself.

If anything, it's the evil doers who should fear me. Fear us. We know what they are doing, and that should scare the crap out of them.

The pathetic attempt to slap a label of "fear porn" on these topics is an attempt by the OP to feel in control of the world. They feel powerless to stop all the bad things that are going on, so they try to regain that feeling of control by controlling US.

Well, to that, I say, take a hike. Go control some other website you control freaks.

Forgive me for not reading past the first few pages of posts as they were the same arguments as far as i could see. At first i agreed with the op until i thought on it for a while, and i found this idea put things in perspective:

If you were the subject of one of these brutal crimes would you want your story to be heard or would you want it thrown by the wayside because it was deemed as "not appropriate" or "not useful"?

Ultimately the problem boils down to people. No matter how you sensor a forum, attention seekers will always find a way. After all, a rock is just a rock until you decide to use it for digging or braining your neighbor.

The fact of the matter is I don't thrive on other peoples misery, and the miserable pathetic life you say I live, because well im going to assume this is directed towards me because of my thread. My life is actually pretty great, not only do I serve in the Marine Corp im also training to become a police officer. I know two profession which most people on here are against but what can I say ive wanted to do both since I was a little kid. So I live a pretty good life and make a differance in peoples lives every day. What do you do?

Well by trade, I am an Occupational Therapist. I work as a job coach teaching peoples with psychological disabilities to obtain and maintain employment. On the side, I own my own business. “Primary Care Computer Repair” to be more specific. I provide services as a computer/network consultant. I mainly setup networks for small businesses.

Other than that, I’m a Father to five(5) children. Keegan 15, Jacob 13, Laney 7. Carly 5, and Lilah 3. Four (4) of the children I’m a stepfather too, and one(1) I’m a biological Father too. I volunteer every Tuesday at a place called the Samaritan House (Catholic Charities). A homeless shelter downtown Denver Colorado. I serve diner in the late afternoon.

I have always had respect for our military. My brother spent 20+ years in the Air force. And working as a police officer? It frustrates me to no end when I hear what people say on here about them. You can’t judge them all for a messed up few.

Cudos rexusdiablos! He defined precisely what is going on in the heads of the OP and those that agree with him. And the proof is that his post went completely unchallenged.
You are afraid of these things and so you choose to ignore them when they happen, but when others who are a bit braver face them head on you are now faced with a choice, either accept that your position is one based on fear and run away (leave ATS) or defend your position, convince yourself that you are not a coward and insist that your position is not based on fear. Of course you choose to defend because the thought of thinking yourself a coward is in itself frightening, as it would be to anyone. Even your decision to defend your position is based in fear. You dont have the courage to admit this truth to yourself. So what do you do? You invent an altervative explanation as to why these things that upset and frighten you should be banned from places like ATS and the media by embracing the theory that the only possible explanation for why someone might be interested in these subjects is a sadistic addiction to violence and gore.
Ok so let me get this straight and I'll use your prime example if you don't mind. Despite your claims that things like this happen all the time the last time Mexico saw anything even remotely similar to these La Santa Muerte ritual slayings were the narco-satanicos murders in the 1980's. That means it has been over thirty years since Mexico has seen anything like this. So this is certainly not something that happens all the time in Mexico. To them, this is a new threat. Ask any Mexican if that in itself doesn't qualify it as "news".
The La Santa Muerte slayings did not all happen on the same night, the first of the three victims was apparently killed in 2009, the second in 2010 and the latest earlier this month with one child still missing. That makes it an ongoing SERIAL crime. That means that if those arrested and charged with the crimes aren't the only ones responsible then both the people of Mexico and every tourist currently in Mexico or planning on going to Mexico may still be in danger. And since the narco-satanicos murders of the 80's ended with 15 people dead I would say that the people of Mexico and the tourists planning on visiting them have a right to know what is going on. Wouldn't you? Oh right, you wouldn't.
But it isn't enough that you personally don't want to know, or that you can easily choose to avoid such stories, so you implore all ATS members and owners to turn a blind eye as well and just pretend these things arent happening. To turn a blind eye when corrupt police go around bashing americans, (yeah, who wants to know when that happens??) when kids start killing each other, ( Damn right I want to know, and I want to know what signs to look for if any friend of my kid starts acting bizarre. Weird of me huh? ) And all this in the name of decency to keep us sadistic folks from becoming worse gore porn addicts then we already are. Thanks buddy but if your idea of decency involves keeping the public it the dark about serial ritual killings and corrupt cops beating civilians than you can just call me indecent.

(of whom I am in no way speaking on behalf of, btw ) In my opinion no one on this thread (including you) should believe for one second that the reason behind your post was one of "decency". You have conditioned yourself over the years to camoflauge your instinct of visceral cowardice and have tried to convince others that you are on some mission to inject decency in a world filled with perverse horror-porn addicts like us. And you have done this long enough where you have begun to believe your own nonsense. But deep down in that weak stomach of yours, buried under that gluten-free tapioca and kombucha you had for breakfast you know what the truth really is. You are just scared. And that's ok, because it is never too late to change remember what rexusdiablos said, you have a choice, the painful truth or the bliss of ignorance. Well that choice never goes away. Try to find the courage to embrace your fears and by doing so you come that much closer to conquering them. Also understand that accepting these things into your reality is by no means the same thing as accepting them into your heart. If you are a good person than these awful realities of humanity will never influence you. It's just that I wouldn't know how many different forums I've been to...not just this one...where it is the same crap, day in and day out, literally for years. If anyone says anything, they immediately get dogpiled.

Being informed doesn't have anything to do with it. I read news. I go to Alex Jones occasionally, when I can stomach it. That is not the issue.

The issue, I will say again, is people who want to stay in the same mindset of fascism, rage, fear, racism, and hatred, and who bitterly object to the idea that they should have to improve themselves, and try and lift themselves out of such a toxic psychological condition.

Contrary to what many of you seem to think, I'm not a complete idiot, or a child. I am very well aware of the degree of toxicity which currently exists on this planet. One thing I've also realised, however, is that things don't improve purely by focusing on everything that is going wrong.

The other issue is, again, that talking about how I'm not advocating a solution here is also dishonest, from the point of view that my fundamental problem, as stated, is that most of you do not truly want positive change. You prefer conflict. You can deny that and get as falsely outraged by the accusation as you want...and yes, I know there are some people here who aren't like that...but I see it all the time.

To the OP, while I agree with you in a sense the fact that people are doing this more and more often is in it's own right a view of what society is. We prefer tragedy and sadness over happiness - some call it Morbid Fascination, I think it is being human. It is almost as if watching, reading or hearing of other's suffering makes our own situations better somehow. If you do not appreciate it you have a choice to to focus on it by not bothering to read about it. Ignorance truly is bliss, not that I am calling you ignorant - just saying when we create our own realities we can create them in anyway we chose.

Time and time again I see links to graphic vids with faux warnings to cover your eyes, look away, don't click etc etc because it's 'graphic'.
It's just another variation on sex porn, sorry. One can almost imagine the individuals drooling and slavering as they are posting. Oh but it's in the interests of openness and 'need to see'. Yeah right.
It's one thing posting stories, it's another adding to viral links of people on fire/whatever.
