It's this law. Basically, it's a very wild west law that allows you to not even look for an alternative. Lets say you are in a car and a crazy man starts chasing you, unarmed. Under this law, you can simply shoot him instead of driving off and have a decent chance of not getting charged for murder. It pretty much gives you the authority of a cop without the training. We can see how (ir)responsibly cops use it so I don't understand why we thought it would be a good idea to make it universal.

Sorry for assuming you knew about it. It's part of the problem with the coverage of the story and their focus on race.

It was not my intention to offend, honestly. Just so you are clear on my point, the very reasons neighborhood watches are set up is because of the law's inability or willingness to do their jobs. Even if it comes to government, the right and duty was to correct by way of the people. Sorry if I seemed abrasive.

This law gives people the right to not be scared and have to run from every threat made towards them. It's not a law that gives you the right to go out and shoot anyone you like. You are taking a law that gives people who should already have the right to defend themselves legal matters to do so and making it out to be a vigilante type situation. This law is in effect for all citizens white or black. It is up to the individual to make sound decisions within the scope of the law. Anyone who attempts to use this law to commit unjust murder will be given a trial by a jury of their peers. This is what america is based on. The right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If someone is trying to keep my family or me from this I will use this law to protect myself and my family. That doesn't make me a murderer.

Peoples ignorance is not a reason to repeal a perfectly good law.

You are more than likely right, but we can always hope for speedy recovery for humanity from what I like to call, "cranial-rectal-insertion"!

I sorta like the stand your ground laws.

But, I am the sort of person that never leaves my home unless I have to.
You come on my property, trying to threaten or hurt me or mine, yeah, I want to be able to shoot you. I'd probably just shoot you in the leg though. I don't care if you are the world's only purple person.

I just wish more people were happier like I am. With a home they like to be at, with a family and loved ones to spend time with, and lots of fun hobbies to enjoy.

Then we'd have less of these problems ALL the way around, class, race, poltical party- whatever divides us that's convenient to keep us from getting whatever we REALLY need.

Love & Security. That doesn't mean 'homeland security" HA or police at every corner making roadstops and frisking people either. Can't have true security without love.

Who is to say we wouldn't need to do that again if gangs/other violent groups grow big enough to overpower local law enforcement? We havent come far at all
