I was reading the Bible one day, and was trying to read to understand not just read and i came upon a verse in the Bible that Perplexes me... It is Genesis 1:26 "And god said, Let us make man in our image under our likeness."


First off all who is they??

You see if god was truly a single entity that is not what he would say!!! Why is it that he/she speaks like there is a group of people making humans. It cant be the "trinity" because this is the creation of man and earth...wayyyy before jesus or the holy spirit's time...

i heard somewhere that that is a mistranslation from the original... it's supposed to say he (and it is a he, stupid) made man out of the same material as god.... i could be wrong but i heard that somewhere

Would you like the truth or just something to appease your Catholic stand-point? I'm not sure that I know a Catholic who is concerned with the truth.

It is "us", the "us" that is refered to is God and Angels, you just have to read the Book of Enoch, which was originally a part of the Bible(Old testement) until about the 12th(I think?) Century, where the Catholic Church decided that it was too heretical and it has been left out since. Look up Enoch on any search engine and you will see what i mean.

since when can angels create life too?

from what i read in the bible and stuff is that only god can create.

Us=god and goddess. Hey, that's what witches believe. One god and one goddess. Think the Christians stole that along with everything else?(Ten commandments are first egyptian, then greek, then Jew, then christian) And of course the ark, greeks/romans have it. Norse have it, don't know about the rest. And son of god? The greeks had many sons of god.(Zues slept around with lots of women)

James..who said the ten commandments were just Christian?? True the Christians believed in the ten commandments later on but that is because Christianity is more newer religion than Hebrew. Also, Muslims believe in the ten commandments also and they a more new religion than Christianity!

The meaning of 'us' cannot be explained as many other things !it happens to be scientist and i would like to say that you have to start thinking alternative origins of our present and especially of our universe ,becuase i am an astrophysicist the more i search the more information i am getting about the universe :There is no GOD!!!!!!And if it exists ,which is according to Possibilities very unlikely to happen ,he would be much different than you think!!!!!!!!We have a lot of things to explain to next generations !!!!!!!Imagine one day what it would happen if the masses realise that there is nothing and all that is just a drug for the most of us ,how can you explain the poverty ???since there is plenty of food for 12 billion people not for 6!!!!!How can you explain the fact that the 5 of the most rich persons in the world have more that the 20 of the most poor counties ???The answer is EDUCATION &AWARENESS

Ok i may be wrong, but when the bible says god created "man" i dont ever rember any thing about angels. And if there were angels they wouldnt have any thing to do with creating "man". so that must mean when the bible has "us" that there was more than one thing creating "man". Some people believe that it is aliens from planet x. But of course we will never know because any information in the bible that would have had any acknoledgment to aliens or any thing like that would have been taken out of the bible by the pope or some one in power, becase they didnt think it fit in with their type of propaganda.

The bible is a good source of history, but when the christan church removed information they didnt want the people to know it made the bible a one view point of history.

What???? You mean the bible was changed and edited? No, god would never allow that. Just because it been around for 2000 years doesn't mean it was edited, what it says is what was written.

But here a question, why do you think they have 50 million versions? Because it was edited. After 2000 years, doubt any of it was in the original. Bet original was ten pages, one for each commandment. Catholic church changed it the most. Used it to gain power in Europe.

And as said, in our image, you have a man and a woman. So the our is god and goddess.

OK if you were reading the Bible one day and came across that particular verse, you must have just started. LOL I agree with the point that there have been some changes. It's unlikely to think that anything having existed this long would remain unchanged. Also, if you intend to make any useful sense of the Book, having over a thousand pages to go yet, it might be wise to keep a larger focus and not trip over pronouns.
