I haven't read through all the comments yet, and maybe someone already brought this up. But seeing Obama getting in the mix, I can't help but wonder if this is going to be a set up for disarming americans. It's not only this case, there are other random shootings ie the father and much older guy on basketball in which the father died.

Just weird these stories popping up suddenly, and I know biden is a gun hater.... I'm sure its in the works...

What's my "emotional" argument? wanting justice for a murdered child? yes shame on me and others of my ilk

EXACTLY the same as my wife!!!

Do you really think that I was referring to you wanting justice for a murdered child as being the basis of why I think you are using emotional arguements??

"Ohhh Woe is me, Shame on ME for wanting justice for a murdered child",

lol.

Really?

and then to cap it all off at the end where you try to rally the troops to your defence by saying "and others of my ilk"
lol

Come on now!
That is so transparent.

You should really meet my wife.
You would have a blast.

Think you may be a little harsh, not everybody is a Mike Tyson and some people like to feel comfortable in the knowledge that they have an advantage, i am in my 70s and carried for over 40 years, had a weapon in every room of my house, and never went out without being "Strapped", had a few hair raising events over the years but found most potential criminals realized when they were at a disadvantage so to speak, and slunk off to where they came from when confronted with a little serious agression.

Never had to shoot anyone and was a zone cordinator for a citizen crime watch program in south Florida, only because our confidence in the local police was not very high and realized they could not be everywhere at the same time, several of my friends and I used to do patrols in our area, we operated on a homeowner phone call setup, where if a suspicious vehicle was casing the area we would receive a call and we would go and check it out, most were innocent and the other ones usually lerft the area when they realized they were being observed

Over a 5 year period never had an altercation, usually a polite conversation explaining why we were there was enough to convince anyone with either good or bad intention that we were just concerned citizens looking after our neighborhood and hope they could apreciate our situation..

Not every red blooded American male wants to get into a knock down drag out with some slime bag, besides running the risk of getting blood all over your clothes (and it could be yours) just to have bragging rights.
I do think Zimmerman could have handled the situation a little better, however it is difficult to get into the mind of a person who is frustated with his importance, I can see him following at a safe distance to make sure the person he (suspected) was up to no good while he waited for the police to show up to question the person. how it evolved to a deadly shooting is another question I am sure will be answered, unfortunately not to everones liking, such is life.

This is the most intelligent and insightful comment in this thread so far. A good deal of the other posters in this thread have only served to remind me that ATS has some very nasty characters lurking in the shadows.

Oh man. ATS has totally opened my eyes to the fact that there are some really awful people with black hearts, spewing hate and garbage here.

A few years ago, I was in the BART station waiting for my train when I, along with dozens of other people witnessed a black man who was on his knees, handcuffed behind his back, and not resisting. He was terrified. Unlike Trayvon, this young man had committed a crime. The BART police, claiming that he was reaching for his tazer, instead reached for his gun and said he "accidentally" shot this man. I can guarantee this was a straight up hate crime, just like the one perpetrated on Trayvon. This was clearly a hate crime.

That cop went to jail a total of two years, and now he's sipping margaritas somewhere...

I don't care what anyone says, Trayvon did not deserve to die, and his killer is trash, who should not have been carrying a gun.

And I don't care whose skin is black, white, yellow, red, purple....

Yes I am brainwashed for wanting justice for a teenager that was murdered. You need to take a long look in the mirror, is there any shred of evidence that Zimmerman did not shoot him. Yes or No?

You just disqualified yourself with that...

A teenager was murdered. I completely understand that, then arrest Zimmerman take him to court to face a fair trial. Zimmerman goes to court they display the only substantial evidence of this event even occurring which is audio. Someone is screaming HELP, and you hear a gun shot. Ok, the jury is going to question the audio on who's voice it actually is. Florida has a messed up law where if you are being threatened you stand your ground and you have a right to use deadly force. Yes YOU need to look away from the television set.

I would LOVE to meet your wife! She sounds like a human being, you know....... someone who operates from their heart and not their ego and their prejudices.

I don't believe Obama should even stick his nose into this. Period. Whether it deals about race or the what not. He shouldn't be involved. It's not a presidential matter. I just don't agree about him making a press conference about it. It makes this case a little more biased when he involves himself.

It is not self defense when you are the aggressor! Zimmerman follows him after he ran away out of fear. That is not self defense.

If you break into my home and I confront you with a firearm, and you run away. It is not self defense if I follow you. The law is VERY clear on this point. I can not even shoot you if you got one foot out of my door. So even if you break into my home and run away, I follow you and you attack me, the attack was a result of my following you. A choice I made. That is not self defense. I put myself in that situation by following. By following, I am looking for a confrontation. That is what we call a mutual combative situation, that is NOT self defense.

This is the classic reminder that trespassing is not enough grounds for shooting someone to death.

Did he have a right to defend himself? Yes. Did he have a right to use deadly armed force on an unarmed perceived tresspasser/agressor?

Nope.

It became a Presidential matter back in 1992 for George H.W. Bush when he had to make a televised speech on deploying the National Guard to the streets of L.A. How do I know this? because I was there.

You are a bit weak on why It's Bush's Fault. Even though I never agreed on his tactics.

All I am saying is that President shouldn't be involving himself in a State matter. He should be involving himself where it is more important in foreign relations.

This is not a presidential matter.

The heart of the movement is still localized, if it gets out of control like a wild fire you know he would have to get involved because he is the only one that can stand in between the American people and say "Cant we all just get along?."

This whole thing is just another stupid distraction. I'm so sick of these media circuses.

Yea, it's sad when someone dies, but thousands of people die every day, it's ridiculous how infatuated people come with one death because of the media. Anytime some celebrity dies or a minority dies to a cop or whatever else and the country has to go into a frenzy for days and ignore much larger issues.

Put the guy on trial and let justice run it's course, we don't need every asshat on every single news station acting like they are qualified to tell everyone what to think and obsessing over it 24/7 while much bigger problems fly under the radar. We don't need intelligent people literally wasting hours every day arguing back and forth over 1 small incident we'll probably never know all the truth about anyway.

Stop feeding into this bull# system, this is why our country sucks balls, because the media makes giant circuses (and giant profits) off of 1 death like this meanwhile ignoring much bigger issues which effect millions of people like corporations and banks robbing us blind, laws robbing us of rights being quietly passed while people are distracted, people suffering and starving across the world, etc.

Regarding Obama's off-color comment:

1- POTUS's clearly dealt the RACE CARD (one drop rule, denying being half white as usual)

2- Tells America his kid would look like a black kid, not a biracial kid or anything, but like Trayvon.

3- His kid would be treated by cops/security similarly to anyone who looks like Trayvon

Why has he addressed this issue first and foremost by playing the race card up front?

I never said anything about his tactics!

I am comparing and contrasting what happened back in 1992, and what decision the President had to make during that social turmoil that happened in L.A. involving another African-American... Economical issues become forgotten due to the uprising of Social Issues. Its funny how that was Bush's re-election year. This is Obama's.

Forget about WW3 this is CW2

You can assume he is a drug dealer because he is trying to obtain drugs?
You are just as biased as the MSM that you are trying to expose.

I think the take away is that you shouldn't totally believe second(third, fourth?) hand accounts of his personality.

Dude, I have been busy. I can't keep up with everything.

But Obama, has no place to stick his nose in a state relation affair. Period.

How many other black children got killed by stray bullets? Or, How many other children got killed due to a whitey? In the other 52 states.

I am sure plenty. And now he want to address it?

How many whites got killed by a black person?

Did you hear him address the white couple that got carjacked by a couple of a blacks in Georgia?

Where the blacks car jacked them in front a a restaurant, then killed the male, but tortured the white woman and poured bleached down her throat. That was was gruesome. But you don't hear about that.

If you want, I'll find that case for you.

Stop acting like you are all innocent. You have your faults too.
