Maybe thugs don't do well with people like you ... so, can one assume it's OK to murder you?

911 Dispatch clearly told Zimmerman not to peruse the kid, yet he did which resulted in the death of an unarmed kid on his way home from a convenient store not troubling anybody. Zimmerman should have listened to the proper authorities in the 1st place and and Treyvon would still be with us today. A fact one cannot contest. Case closed...

Wow. You and I have wholly different perspectives on how a country can function. I feel like if the kid was selling drugs to little children on the playground it still doesn't justify him being murdered ... regardless of how it went down. Though there's a lot of confusion, no one is suggesting this guy was armed. In my view, since that seems to be the case, he shouldn't be dead right now.

I also find it enlightening how when people decide there might be some sort of connection to drugs, whether valid or not, suddenly they're not so concerned about a young black male being killed. Hey, accidents happen.

Where is his badge? Where is his authority to track this kid? Where is his right to carry a gun on Neighborhood Watch?

you don't need a badge to carry a gun. he tracked the kid because he was suspicious, that's what neighborhood watch does (the act of following someone isn't illegal, and given zimmerman's duties, was the right call). he's blatantly selling weed over facebook, so zimmerman's suspicions were right.

the neighborhood has been having a lot of crime recently, and the interviewed locals are thankful of zimmerman's patrolling.

17 year old 6'3 170 lbs football player, drug dealer, recently suspended from school for 8 days. yeah, definitely just an innocent kid.

i think it's very sad that he died. selling pot and (possibly) committing some burglaries don't carry the death sentence, but if he attacked zimmerman as the witness alledges and the evidence seems to say, then zimmerman shouldn't go to jail.

While all of the evidence isn't quite in yet, it does look like Zimmerman was in the wrong here. Furthermore, I heard his lawyer claiming earlier on CNN that his client hasn't yet disclosed the details of the incident to him, which is a bit hard to believe. Sounds more like he'd just rather not get into it.

However, one thought on what is reasonable suspicion. It is not illegal to walk at night, however, the police will and do consider this as suspicious. Years ago, I worked the night shift. 11pm to 7am. On my days off, I kept those same hours. One night, when I was off, I rode with my room-mate and some friends to IHOP. We ate and talked and drank some coffee, then I was ready to go. They wanted to stay longer and I thought it would be nice to walk anyway. It was only around 11:30pm. The walk wasn't very far, but about halfway to my apartment, a police car pulled over. Two cops got out and gave me a full run down. They asked if I had any weapons. They patted me down. The asked what I was doing. Where was I going, where was I coming from. Why didn't my friends offer me a ride. Do I have any warrants, have I ever been arrested, etc, etc... After about 10 minutes of this, they finally left. All I was doing was walking home. My point here (and not saying Zimmerman was in the right) is that just being out at night is apparently considered suspicious behavior. That being considered, I don't think it was wrong for a neighborhood watchman to initially suspect/follow Martin. After the 911 call, he should have ceased pursuit, though.

At the end of the day, the question should be asked, why is a neighbourhood watch person roaming the streets armed and dangerous, when surely if anyone is should shoot anyone, shouldn't it be the police?

Argue with that all you like, but it won't wash.

Racists just can't help themselves trolling this website.

I'm surprised anyone actually takes you deranged idiots seriously, you should all be banned from this website, your insinuations are so blatantly obvious a 5 year old can see through you.

YES it is. As a teen I used to go out walking late at night to the gas station to get a soda or some candy. Glad no one decided to shoot me just because I'm Native and "suspicious looking". There are a lot of kids in my area in town who go out late to get something. Nothing abnormal about it.

This is a neighborhood "watchman" with a gun who made a careless, insane, and horrible decision. Who in the world handles their guns this way anyways? You don't just go shooting someone to be shooting.

And thanks to this scenario, we are going to see more gun laws passed, because of idiots who misuse their weapons to do evil with.

And how interesting would it be to get everybody's honest response to the question: how would your opinions on this story change if Zimmerman was a black guy and the kid had been white? Would it still be "unfortunate" what happened?

I am just glad I didn't have you or the others like you on here as the jury in my case for self defense. I'd be doing time for sure.

Turn in your Ron Paul button, you're a threat to freedom and liberty.

How so?

I think Mr Martin has the freedom to walk down the street without being harassed by Mr. Zimmerman.

He was walking in the gated community where his dad worked. He was NOT selling drugs or committing any crimes.

He has the right to walk around, what are black people supposed to live in house arrest now?

So he deserves to DIE?

You know how many teens I've seen posting on the internet that they are bad## thugs? Thug life, all that? When in reality they are not. They are just teens trying to fit in, that are mostly confused and immature. How do you know this kid was living as a thug?

So if someone looks at you walking down the street and says, "I'm gonna shoot him, he looks like a fool" that's okay? If we check YOUR internet posts and we decide you're a fool, then your death has been justified?

It would certainly have been unfortunate; any death is. But there would've been no response from the POTUS nor any other political figure, and it would've received a terse mention on the evening local news and a topic of a handful of blogospheres. There would've been no rallies, marches, mass hysteria. Soon forgotten outside of the impacted community and families.

Bulls***!!

Zimmerman put himself in a position to be attacked by following this kid!

I got news for you. I walk to the store almost every night. Follow me some time, in the dark, and I don't know you. Guess what?? I'm jumping your ass too!

The only difference is, I am not 17. I wont jump you from behind a bush. I am going to walk right up on you and find out why your following me and if you dont have the right answer, you can pick your teeth up off the ground while you think about it.

You sound like a really tough guy.
To beat somebody down for following you?
Really?

I hope I don't ever get caught following you cuz you would beat me to a pulp.
I can't believe how tough you are.
I wish I were as tough as you.

It's not about being tough. You better believe if I am walking down the street, alone, at night, and I am being followed by a stranger in a car.... yeah if I perceive you as a threat I am going to take you out before you have a chance to take me out. We can clear up any differences later. My number one priority is my safety.

So the idea of you getting your ASS handed to you doesn't even factor into the equation does it?
I mean, why would it.
You're YOU!
You're the baddest YOU that YOU could possibly be.

If YOU decide to "Take someboody out" then that's the way it will go down hu?
Never crosses your mind that the person in question may not let you "take them out"?

I gotta get me some of these badass pills.
