My spelling can be so Terrible at times that it even confounds the spell checker.

Oh God... Worst run-on sentence... I've ever read. So many... dependent clauses...

And as for the haters, some of us are just grammar nerds. Sorry for the judgment.

Im terrible at spelling,

i know i am....

i dont think that takes away from my ability to contribute to a thread...

someone mentioned Non english speaking (second language) people being better at it on here, most likely they try harder to get the information across and speak what would be seen as "Queens" or proper english. remebering many of us live with slight variation of the language also from my understanding people of my generation were taught (which was wrong) at a young age to spell slightly different than older generations (this was a conversation i had with a work colleague who couldnt work out why i was so terrible at spelling considering he found me to be both able to hold intellignet conversation and have above average problem solving skills)

i will get more info off him the next time i see him as he commented my spelling was similar to a relative of his around my age.

on top of that i type lots and lots for work, i try my hardest to not write in text talk as i am not fond of it however it occurs sometimes, as i literally grew up with computers i am very confortable at a keyboard and feel that even with spelling errors i am able to get my point across...

Do you really feel i should take my post, proof read and spell check before allowing it to take part in a thread? am i being graded on this? will the information i post in some way overly effect my life in the same way a CV will?

I hate seeing people moan about spelling, especially in retaliation to an argument, it is low, it is similar to using the Nazi comparison, at the point this occurs the argument has been lost by the person who uses it as they have left all logical reason and instead decided on an attack on the user which does in no way change the basis of the argument...

Also, my grammar is worse... i am a i like using , ! .? tooo much... Edit - Or in this case not at all

i know my short commings hows that pedestal?

Just my thoughts though

Agreed.
I also made a rant about this same thing.
How am I to believe that someone could have researched ANYTHING if they have not used a spellcheck, or even just not know how to spell the most basic of words.
I am the first one to admit my english skills on paper would get me a D minus but I usually spell correctly, and my punctuation is lack luster but I have average skills.

You LOSE Credibility When You CANNOT Spell..,

Also when you post narcissistic and self righteous threads.

As has been covered countless times this is a global community website, English is not every posters first language, why don't you concentrate on your own anal Grammar correction, live and let live and be thankful that you live in a time where technology allows you to interact with a diverse global community.

Mistakes are made, granted.

Outright ignorance to the point where someone really doesn't seem to care if there's 20-dozen squiggle marks under a majority of what they're posting before posting is a little bothersome.

Then again, we who try to take our time in spell checking and reviewing what we're about to post before posting, don't have to read, or reply to anything if the whole ordeal is indeed an ordeal.

It would, however, be nice, were there a spell check confirmation prompt turned on by default for all users as a quality control measure. As an option, it could then be turned off manually by members in their profile options.

Agreed 100%!

It is no different then when you put together a resume for a job application..most employers will disregard your resume if they see a spelling/grammatical error (it doesn't matter how qualified you are)...an error shows you don't pay attention to the details. In my mind, on a site like this, details are VERY important!

I'm currently sending my resume and applying for jobs, and in a case of irony, approx. 1 in 5 advertised jobs that i've applied for have spelling mistakes in the job descriptions. I also had my resume done by a 'professional' and when i went over it, it had 4 spelling mistakes !

Many times I see a "New Thread" title misspelled, I have to wonder ones credibility. Either you're extremely lazy (spell check), or you're simply dumb.

There certainly are times when a poster may have started an interesting topic or thread, but I'm disappointed when they spell a words like comet, alien, earth, asteroid, government, people, or the. I don't get it, use spell check. As an ATS community of well-rounded folks, we're smarter than this. Most of us are educated or simply have the smarts to keep our posts at least punctually correct.

Step it up, use spell check, or go back to school.

EDIT: Oh yes, I forgot this part. I also have seen posters who claim to be astronomers or physicists who cannot spell "star" or "mass"...those are the ones I really believe in.
edit on 21-3-2012 by Vinny5036 because: I forgot..

You do know you are on a international forum right? To a lot of people here English is sometimes a second or even third language. So to expect perfect English or grammar on here is pretty stupid.

you didn't just try to equate ATS conspiracy forums to a resume, did you? Ha. First of all, grammer and spelling only matter when someone writes up finalized paperwork. Even then. Spelling and grammer are for school kids.. It has nothing to do with reality. 99% of business is vocal.. The paper work is just for audit purposes. Ats is a website.. Not a job..

I don't know if this is relative but, Einstein could not tie his shoes. So I have heard. That has to be more "lazy/dumb" than spelling.

Maybe if you guys would learn to drive on the correct side of the road you wouldn't be so confuddled.

Seeing you want to be rude like that maybe you guys could at least learn to produce a decent conspiracy documentary/report actually worth watching and maybe you would not be so "confuddled" as you put it!
Don't start!

I hadn't thought about the Australians, who not only drive on the wrong side of the road, but live their lives upside down in a strange world where the toilet bowl flushes counter-clockwise and they put strange spreads on their toast.

At least your women are
HAWT! Oh, thanks for THIS too.

Punctually? What does time keeping have to do with posting?

I think the word you were looking for was punctuated. Thus your sentence should have read; "Most of us are educated or simply have the smarts to keep our posts at least correctly punctuated".

I guess you can take solace in the fact that you spelled it right... Though, you have lost all credibility.

Our Dunnies flush what ever way they were designed to!. Some don't even swirl at all. Yeah Vegemite is "Grouse"!. Yeah Down Under is a great song! (Shame about the current controversy).

At least you have a sense of humour compared to others here. All good mate. Now hopefully the grammar Nazi of an OP will not pick our posts to pieces.

My toilet swirls in Australia the same way if I was to un-plumb (de-plumb? don't want to upset the op at all) my toilet and then install it America, it would swirl no different.

Its a myth that the Coriolis effect turns water opposite in a toilet, its force is so minute that the swirl direction is based on the physical properties of the toilet itself, ie. water entry angle, shape of the bowl etc.

But yes, vegemite is damn awesome and drop bears are a real threat to our population.

Brother, life is too short to harbor animosity with someone over the internet. In fact, it's too short to NOT spend every minute looking for the joy life has to offer. Hate is an ugly emotion, and I'll be damn glad when people get over it.

Vegemite.

You sir, have gone a step too far! The meeting place will be Kiribati Island, at dawn and as gentlemen we shall raise our flags with pride and have a thong slap off. That's Aussie thongs, otherwise things might get confusing and messy.
