Ohio officer used stun gun on 9-year-old boy

Yet another case of OTT police force for an otherwise benign situation.

Whatever happed to a police officer being helpful and polite?

They are now regarding themselves like crime janitors rather than a pillar of good and justice for the community.

Do you think that this 9 year old could comprehend what would happen? Was he resisting arrest or resisting going to school? Not once did I see that the boy was under arrest.

Maybe it was chicken nugget day and he was throwing a fit. I don't know, but that is the extent of how most 9 year olds think.

I think it is a complete failure of intelligence and common sense to even think that not going to school, a non violent issue, should be met with violence like he was a carjacker or thief!

Are you a parent? How would you feel if it was your 9 year old? Yes the kid was breaking the law and being difficult with the officer. And yes use of force was appropriate to detain him, but tazing the kid is just wrong. There is no excuse for it except that the officer made a poor judgement call and now he is being punished as he should be. The use of tazers by law inforcement is out of control.

And I am former military and have both used and been the victim of a tazer. My opinion is that they should only be used in a situation where you would use your lethal firearm. No exceptions.

Who knows, maybe he was truant from school because he was being bullied because of his weight? Regardless, if he is not in school, it should be between him and his parents. Not the state, I don't care what the law says.

Plus, it's hilarious how some of the people who are supporting the police in this case are often the same people whining about how the government needs to stay out of their lives.

IF... being the word to focus here. IF he had attempted to fight or harm someone, the use of the taser could be justified. Just lying on the ground, arms under him - no way. Presuming that is the whole of the story, Poor choice on the part of the cop, in this case.

Exactly. There could be many different reasons for this kid to not want to go to school. On top of his size, add the fact that his father is extremely ill, and whatever other issues any family may have, and you have a kid that may be emotionally distraught and in need.

Whatever happened to hugging and talking to our kids? That may make me sound like a pussy, but I am 6' 4" tall 270lbs and I have no problem hugging, kissing and talking to my kids when I feel they are in need of something as simple as love.

This kid probably just needed someone to love him and listen......ahh screw it.....let's taze the fat bastard!

The law is the law, Follow instructions and do as your told and there will be no pain compliance. I see where you are comming from. You will do well at the Fema Camp. Hell, you might even make trustee.

That thought process is the problem with our system now. There was a time in this country when police were a helpful, concerned, part of our society. There was more to being a cop than a gun, tazer, and over enforcement of trival infraction. Cops could be spoken to and were happy to solve problems without un needed bs.
