The chickens are coming home to roost for good old Rush.

It appears that due to the exodus of sponsors since his infamous "slut" remark, that his show is having trouble filling commercial time with actual commercials.

Liberal watchdog group Media Matters noticed that on at least two occasions on Thursday, Limbaugh’s flagship station in New York, WABC, broadcast several minutes of dead air during commercial breaks.

There were over two and a half minutes of dead air leading into the show and then another minute of dead air during the first hour of the program.

Limbaugh broadcasts dead air during commercial breaks

OUCH!

A few stats from the above article to ponder...

According to Media Matters’ count, at least 48 advertisers had cancelled their ads by Thursday afternoon.

AdAge determined that nearly half of the 69 commercial spots during Thursday’s show had been replaced with public service announcements.

According to The New York Times, the network and its affiliates were flooded with calls from angry viewers.

Maybe a bit more sincerity in your apology would have been beneficial Mr. Limbaugh?

Nice to see public outrage can still have an effect (as long as it involves the old wallet of course).

Temporary thing.
No such thing as bad controversy,
...especially when there is hypocrisy involved.

I'm sure it is just a temporary interruption. Being that it was a local station, it could have been a local advertiser deciding to pull at the last minute.

Give it a couple of weeks and new advertisers are going to be lining up to take advantage of possible lower costs. Ignoring 15 million listeners a day is not good business.

BTW: Was listening to Limbaugh today online though this same NY station, and swear I heard a NAACP commercial. Wonder if Media Matters is going to boycott the NAACP?

I think he should just squeal and snort during the breaks while he masticates on a gigantic stogey. The ditto heads would love it.

Limbaugh never cared about anything but making himself money, often at the expense of our nation and sometimes at the expense of individuals.

He's been a leech on society far too long imo.

ugh, for the bjillionth time, no one is asking the government to pay for people's birth control. Obama tried to make faith-based organizations (i.e. catholic hospitals, catholic universities, etc.) extend coverage of contraceptives to women under their insurance plans. No government money would go to covering said contraceptives so the comic you posted as well as Limbaugh's fake anger is rendered moot.

That cartoon is a fair argument.
However on the other side of the coin, we might want to realize that the societal cost is greater for not providing birth control for low income individuals. I know the same ones of you that are against this kind of support are also against welfare. Well let me tell you, welfare is a LOT more expensive.

Think about it.

Government should pay for birth control

alas, this is about health care covering contraception...last I heard, insurance companies are not government run...just starting to get regulated.

Anyhow...

I fully endorse this contraception thing being the lead debate the reps are wrapped up in. Lets make sure to make it in the front for the next 9 months

You guys still obsessing on Limbaugh. That's more of a story than his saying something wrong while exercising free speech. That tells me you are opposed to free speech. What he said was wrong and anyone who has never said anything wrong themselves has every right to be critical. Problem is there is nobody alive I think who has not done the same.

This whole thing was a ruse to divert attention from Obama's attempt to negate the 1st Amendment. But then the voters are dumb enough to fall for it. I think his supporters would be OK with him being a Dictator if they could get away with it. Lord knows he and his followers have railed against free speech and a free press over and over again.

Why are you opposed to free speech by the way? What's the deal with that? You do know your radio has the ability to change stations at any time you wish? This is just more hate and divisive crap that is ruining our country and allowing the real bad guys to strip our rights away. I wonder how loud you yell when it comes time for your speech to be controlled? It's coming and your part of the cause.

When people mess up and then apologize, you forgive them and then they do the same when you do the same.

...and you will.

I just read that someone here stated he had 15 million listeners. I find it hard to believe that there are that many negative, gullible people willing to tune into his show, I wanted to say worse, but I am a tolerant guy. Yes, I know there are many whom use this for entertainment, including myself about once a year.

I actually at one point thought the man was having some insight and intelligence when he described and Australian finding the methane release caused a great extinction, I went wow, he does have a brain. But then the incredulous happened. Somehow this got turned around and became a Democratic plot for global warming. Imagine that, going back several million years and setting this whole thing up. Like I said, he is a good entertainer, but little else. I actually knew a guy up in Mi. that wore his logo on his hat.

Does the gobermnt pay for Viagra? I hope not. What other emotions, besides orgasm, should we have gobernmt involvement in, or have insurance coverage for ? How about euphoria? Let's make the use and purchase of tobacco, alcohol and narcotics a reimbursable expense.
Crap, Linbaugh lost the moment to actually promote additional extravagant human behaviors, and garner support for oxicontin abuse.
Frankly, this insanely absurd birth control reimbursement is ludicrous on so many levels.

Yes! It pays for Viagra -- if its through any medical program.

Because erectile dysfunction is considered a legitimate medical condition.

Yeah not to mention that free condoms are readily available from lots of government run clinics.
Why do people get up in arms with free contraceptives for women then? I've never understood the rationale behind it.

What planet are you on?
The woman he called a slut was not asking the government to pay for anything.
Rush makes up this crap about him and you paying for something out of thin air and you waste no time getting angry over it.
How much of my private insurance do you think you pay for? How much do you think the government pays for?
Does my asking that they cover things they currently do not raise that price? How so? How much? Can you answer any of these questions without posting a picture?

Free speech? Why do you believe Rush has more free speech than most of the rest of us?

Problem is there is nobody alive I think who has not done the same.

I do not even know anyone with a radio show so no, I think there are lots of people who have NOT done the same.

Rush is working for Obama now?

Let me see another thread crying that Christoper Titus said something scary about Palin or that Bill Maher called someone a name.

Do you have any idea how many medical reasons there are for women to NEED to take birth control pills? How do you equate it with an emotion?

Nice! I always find it a nice deflection tactic when the subject matter gets blatantly ignored, and an absurd amount of attention goes to something as fleeting as someone's opinion. I have family members that do that...when someone confronts them on their behavior, the behavior gets ignored, then an argument ensues over the accusation itself and how it was delivered.
The "perpetrator" then attempts to become the victim, and quite effectively, I might add. It's nothing more than political manipulation, and I wish people would see it for what it really is.

I mean, seriously - It's a highly charged, controversial subject. When people start bowing down to pressure when they speak their minds, then A.) they don't mean what they originally said, or B.) they're not standing up for their constitutional rights, and are in grave danger of losing them to nothing more than bullying. That's really what this is about...bigger bullies bullying a bully. A nice example of karma in action, if you ask me, but still sad none-the-less.

The bottom line, in my book, is that none of this hoopla over Limbaugh matters...who gives a crap if he called her names? He calls lots of people names! LOL! He's a radio jock, what do people expect?! But like puppets on a string, people are falling for the deflection tactic and focusing on the name-calling, rather than the absurd hypocrisy he was attempting to point out...which I COMPLETELY agree with, I might add.

The bottom line? If you can't afford to buy your own damn birth control, then maybe...JUST MAYBE...you might oughta keep your britches on until you can! HELLO!! (Not you personally, but "you", as in Fluke). I fail to see where the sex life of college kids should be my problem, or the problem of any other tax-paying American. If my tax dollars are going to be spent on young "adults" (and I use that term loosely), I'd rather it go into mandatory programs that teach them how better to respect their bodies and the benefits of abstinence until marriage....or at the very least, the responsibility of waiting until they can afford to buy a freaking condom. God help me - the stupidity and complete lack of responsibility and logic is overwhelming. What an incredibly gross sense of entitlement this is. To sit and have to listen to a college kid petition congress over the government's "responsibility" to provide her with birth control pills while she's studying so hard at school, is maddening....obviously, she has time to have an active sex life, which I assume also includes dating (unless she really IS a slut), so that tells me she also has time for a part-time job. Or better yet, the guys she's sleeping with obviously have money to take her out...how about asking THEM to supply the goods, since they're the ones wanting to do the deed with her? My generation would have NEVER considered such a mind-boggling idea. Where do these kids come from???

I don't think the government should be providing ANYONE with sexual related ANYTHING, except education on making responsible decisions, and maybe learning to work a little harder for the things you want without expecting the government to constantly provide them to you. When I was going through college, birth control pills were not mainstream. Good, old-fashioned condoms were the norm, and frankly, the pill did nothing to ease my mind to be honest, because back in the day, the dangers of STD's were a huge thing. A condom came into play regardless. So, on this matter alone, I severely question Fluke's lack of good judgement and reasoning...she shouldn't be relying on the pill to do anything for her until after she's married and knows the sexual history of her husband. If she's THAT concerned with getting pregnant, (and obviously not equally concerned with STD's), then maybe she shouldn't be having sex at ALL! For all our sake's, I hope she never has kids...someone needs to send her whiny butt a lifetime supply of condoms just so she doesn't. Her parents failed her in terrible ways...shame on them.
