Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.

When America supports unconventional forces we are supporting 'freedom fighters.'

When unconventional forces fight us they are 'terrorists.'

Get it now?

Ah! Exactimo.

No matter what they do, anybody America supports are "freedom fighters" and God's angels.

So America could support al Qaeda and they'd be tagged as "Warriors of Light."

Actually, Reagan called them Freedom Fighters.

Oh wait, what am I saying? I meant to say that the enemies of Oceania have always been the enemies of Oceania.

I'll have to admit , that America does support terrorism. But it's a form of terrorism. We are the terrorists that terrorists fear most. Get it?

I did some fund raising for Irish political prisoners in the US many years ago... and I do agree... the biggest doners tended to be rich Yanks who were trying to convince their equally rich peers how 'Irish' they were by throwing money around... the truth is that as someone has previously said... US awareness of the world around them is pretty poor, tending to based on single sources.. usually the mega media. All you can do is jhope that some of the elected leaders can differenciate between fact n rhetoric...

Where were these "Irish political prisoners"? They certainly weren't in jails in Ireland north or south. All the people that were jailed were murdering thugs (republican and loyalist).
And to all the people who call them freedom fighters , what is the difference between those poor people who were beheaded in Iraq and an innocent taxi driver who picks up a fair and then gets a bullet in the back of the head because of the company he works for (a tactic that was used by republicans and loyalists in northern ireland)?

Im not going to go into my long winded family/political association with republicanism.. its long ago for me now...

I was fund raising for the families of republican prisoners of war/terrorist (tick whatever one u like) who largely came from poor nationalist areas with large families to support. A lot of good people went to prison.. as well as a lot of butchers.. and after years of conflict this distinction slowly fades on both sides, when idealists simply become brutalised by the armed struggle. Ok... there were always nutters too on both sides.. but thats what happens in war. Most people agree that politics in Nireland is the only way forward now...(and not because of 9/11)

I agree with almost all you say except for

alot of good people went to prison

only afew good people went to prison the vast majority are murdering scumbags with no humanity. having lived in N. Ireland (for the moment I am back) but not being for here I see it from both sides and believe me that nearly every person I have met who has been connected to an organisation has been an unprincipalled tw*t. (in any other society they would be the career criminals)

Sorry Qoelet I don't mean to disrespect you or your family ,it's just how I feel about those kind of people.
