$2.50 gas and other idiocy

Making gas cheap here is super easy. And it would not only create jobs, it would stimulate the economy. It is simple. First, we make it law that all oil from the US be sold at a mere 10% profit and ban allowing US oil onto the commodities markets and ban selling it overseas. Then the government should build at least 5 new refineries. After the refineries are built we would need to require that only US oil be refined at those refineries and keep them government owned as non profit.

This would lead to stations selling gas at around $.50 a gallon. The for profit stations would either lower their prices or lose their businesses.

We can have cheap fuel if we think out of the box a little. We all know that the only reason gas costs so much is due to the speculators. We also know that there is more than enough gas here for us and we do not need to import any of it. In fact, we are exporting oil right now. That is stupid. Why export when we can make use of it here now?

I'm not going analyze the merits of your proposal just yet, but let me point out that you confirm the point I made earlier -- that $2.50 gas would require authoritarian/fascist measure on par with Stalin, Hitler and others. Then, anything's possible. Yeah, government will build and manage, and ban and forbid...
