I've had this experience as well. I was tired, lying down to go to sleep, closed my eyes...and....boom. I was intrigued and began playing with it for a while until it went away. Reading the other posts on here, I have come to the conclusion that it happens when one is in a relaxed state...just like when most other "freaky" events occur.

Great post...thankfully a lot of people do it
I do it a lot as well though it's intended and usually as the precursor to doing some RV practices. Helps me to get/keep my bearings...kind of centering.

Then again it could just be mass insanity

I just started noticing I could see my room while my eyes were closed. I'm guessing this is a recreated image prior to starting a dream. Amazing how brain can recreate images and make it real. Yes I dream in color sometimes. But the scariest dreams are first person.

The guy who mentioned sleep paralysis? Thats a demon (s) trying to get inside you. The most scariest thing you can imagine. I know because these guys invaded my dreams and really messed up my dreaming. I call it nightmares. 10 years this went on. They seem to come when you your future self is about to make a drastic future change of the normal you. Like religion again. I know this because someone said something about humming sounds, thats when they come, and a feeling like your body is being vibrated apart. I beat this with the help from the virgin mary. Hail Mary prayers saved me. I also wear the miraculous medal as extra protection. They dont bother me anymore in my sleep. I'd tell you about some of the things they do to you in your sleep but you will get spooked.

And the guy who saw dark figures standing over you that is them. Read the book 'The way of divine love' there is a lady named Josefa I think who described what I saw after I saw it and made the connection. They are slick black people. I saw them like she did, but before I saw her book.

You sincerely made me laugh. It is funny how you could read a couple of religious books, connect the dots and call sleep paralysis a daemon, and not just RESEARCH what it actually is. Sleep paralysis happens EVERY night when you fall asleep. The body puts itself into paralysis, so that you do not actually run when you dream you are running or doing any movements. Otherwise you won't get much sleep, would you?
Sometimes the body is slower to wake up from sleep paralysis and it can feel pretty strange not being able to move.

As to the transparent eyelids effect, it usually happens on the verge of falling asleep. It is a memory impression, perceived and visualized by the mind.

I've had this happen also when I'm in bed. I don't wanted to call it anything metaphysical or whatever but it is an interesting experience. I remember thinking maybe my eyes are barely open and I'm seeing but thats not the case.

I can only do that in my dreams. I love it... and I get disapointed once I wake up

About once or twice a month, usually in that inbetween state of sleep and awake, I'll become aware that I'm seeing my entire room with my eyes closed. It's been happening for so long that I thought it common until I mentioned it in passing to a friend and was told otherwise. In this state, I usually become aware of one object, and some how move my eyes to look around the whole room. I believe I'm using my third eye, and was never aware of it.

thats amazing i was just about to go around ATS asking

i finally delved into mediation a few days ago, after putting it off for a long time, and i had some strange images

but anyways after i did this i was on my way to school and im walking down my street and i close my eyes and ask myself to show me something, anything.

I saw a wind turbine and i thought "what the hell does that have to do with anything?" so i looked around and i saw in the distance and to my right the wind turbine, and i was pretty shocked. The thing is that i saw it in black and white sort of and it was the only thing i saw. It was actually more the outline of the wind turbine but it was moving. Also i saw it from a front angle, while in real life it was at a slightly side angle.

I did it a few more times on the subway but since then i haven't been able to do it.

Does anyone have any info on how to improve this??

I experienced this earlier this week!

I even pulled my blanket over my head to try and block the light out, thinking it was just light shining through my eyelids, but I could see the inside of the blanket even though my eyes were shut! I then put my hand in front of my face and waved it... and I could see it too
Then, after rolling around restlessly, blinking, trying to get rid of this, it eventually just faded away and I was able to finally get some sleep.

Everything was like a noise infested photoshop "Outline finder" image, where objects shapes are roughly visible but their positions are extremely accurate.

I told a friend about it and he just laughed, so glad this was posted

I used to have fun with this when I first noticed I could do it. I call it my glass eyelid trick.

Next time you try it, move your hand infront of your eyes. I could see my arm through my eyelids. To me it just proves that your eyes arent the "be all" and "end all" of seeing.

I wanted to comment on this earlier. I've had the same thing happen to me numerous times. However the last time this happened I had a very absurd experience. Instead of seeing the room, I shot up and was then seeing the stars. I was a bit of a way above my roof when I noticed I was having this experience but being pulled into what seemed like a craft with 3 lights rotating at the bottom and I was caught in this tractor beam. I fought it and then the next thing I remember was opening my eyes and in bed.

Other than that it has been the room I'm in except for this one time I was outside staring up at a tree.

I see things almost everytime i close my eyes. Not always tough just when i think of it, kinda annoying somtimes makes it hard to sleep. Can see all kind of things but its a bit hard as well cus its like if you try to see it wanish. so just gotta try and focus whit out focusing or somthing dunno hard to explain. Anyhow i cant "pick" what i will see, just random stuff but it is mostly faces and whats wierd is that i can almost never recal whos face it is even tough i see it perfectly clear. and it get more intense if i have a hangover, so i think its just the brain recaling difrent things and stuff that i have seen, but still preety cool. asked some friends as well and they have never seen stuff like it until i asked, told me the next day that they saw some figures to but not so clear.

But to the point heh i was meditating a few days ago feelt like i got preety deep, and i could see my arms moving almost reaching for somthing in difrent directions. even tough i knew they where staying still. After a little while i could see my body. it was displayed like birght flashing string of some sort. Like my blood in my vains turned white and flashy a lil chotic but relaxed at the same time somthing like vibrating or so. Dont usaly meditate much cus i had some bad experience whit headace and so on.. the experiance dident last for to long lost my consetration and couldet get to the point i was before...

It's most likely some type of hypnagogic image, at least more probable than the third eye scenario since things usually appear off kilter, or not actually how they are in entirety.

This has happened to me a couple time. I see rite through my eyelids. Always when lying down and relaxe. Twice I saw a bright white light before hand, even though my eyes were closed, then I could see . It was pretty neat.

This has happened to me quite a number of times. I have no concrete explanation of what is actually taking place but in my experience it happens when I'm lying in bed. I noticed it happens more often when relax in a particular position (for meditation) on my back and usually just before falling asleep. The event itself is almost always the same and its as if suddenly I can see right through my roof at the trees above my house. I was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy to read this as all this may have been all in my head.

It follows from education research that humans have 19 senses, not five:

SENSES KIND OF INPUT

Sight Visible light
Hearing Vibrations in the air
Touch Tactile contact
Taste Chemical molecular
Smell Olfactory molecular
Balance Kinesthetic geotropic
Vestibular Repetitious movement
Temperature Molecular motion
Pain Nociception
Eidetic Imagery Neuroelectrical image retention
Magnetic Ferromagnetic orientation
Infrared Long electromagnetic waves
Ultraviolet Short electormagnetic waves
Ionic Airborne ionic charge
Vomeronasal Pheromonic sensing
Proximal Physical closeness
Electrical Surface charge
Barometric Atmospheric pressure
Geogravimetric Sensing mass differences

The description of many people's experience matches neuroelectric image retention (eidetic imagery), in combination with others...

My own experience includes white light meditation: imprinting an eidetic image of a small flourescent light by looking directly into to it for a few seconds, then closing the eyes and watching the retained image “color sequence” through the visible spectrum from ultraviolet to infrared. How long the sequence takes is a measure of how deep and still your mind is in meditative singularity/unity.

Huh?

They can all be grouped under the 5 senses.

This happens to me a lot as well. You're not alone. Let me know when you figure out what it is for sure.
