Sometimes, when I'm really sleepy, I'll close my eyes...but still be able to see as if they were open. What's happening? Is it astral projection?

The same thing happens with me. The first time I experienced it I was confused as hell. Didn't know if I was dreaming, awake, or what was going on. I think it's the start of astral projection.

A while ago I tried to learn to control / improve this ability and it got to the point where I had to stop because I couldn't "turn it off" (which made sleeping kinda difficult as you can imagine).

Out of curiosity, where do you "see" from? It might sound like a weird question, but sometimes I don't "see" from a position corresponding with where my real eyes are. If I'm not consciously trying to "see", then I see from a position corresponding with my eyes and it usually results in tightly shut eyes and much tentative touching of my eyelids with my hands to make sure they are actually fully closed. But when I consciously try to "see" with my eyes closed, I actually see out of a point between my eyes and slightly above them.. I usually just have to relax my body, concentrate hard and imagine I have an eye on my forehead and that I'm opening & looking out of it. It's not perfect 20/20 type vision though, usually it's either just dark outlines of objects, or quite similar to night vision goggles with that eery greenish hue.

Is what I just described similar to your experience?

I love reading these posts. Mostly because I then feel that I am not alone.

I experienced this a few weeks back. I was tired and went to bed around 11:00pm. As I laid in bed, I closed my eyes, but I could "see" outlines of objects in the room. Much like you, it was a little off-center (i.e. I wasn't staring directly ahead). I though this rather wierd and perhaps just my imagination. I have not tried to improve upon this, but it does make sleeping a chore.

I have experienced a state in which I am (for a few seconds) uncertain whether my eyes
are closed or open. It usually happens when I am very relaxed. I tend to let my mind
wander, when it occurs to me that I have not been travelling, but I have instead been
lying on my sofa looking around the room and at my knees. Well, not actually looking around the room and at my knees, because my eyes have been closed for an indeterminate time. I react by opening my eyes and seeing exactly what I saw when they were closed. I return (somewhat disappointed) to my "normal" state.

Nothing I see is off-center...I feel like I'm seeing through my eyelids. And I see everything in full color. I can't tell whether I'm dreaming or awake when I actually do this, though...but when I close my eyes and see this happen, either the image begins to fade, or I open my eyes. Much like learning to rub my dream-hands together to keep from waking up from lucid dreams prematurely, I really should learn to not become startled when I see through my eyelids, and to instead try to completely travel.

sounds like you discovered your third eye.

now if only there was an easy way to learn how to control your third eye.....

next time it happens, concentrate on seeing thru your third eye, which is really above the bridge of your nose on your forehead, see if the vision you feel you are seeing thru your eyelids expands to that spot.

It happened to me once .........in class.
Well, i was sitting in class and my math teacher was talking and talking and talking, so i was sitting there looking at her and watching her walk accross the room and then i noticed that she was looking at me and the rest of the class too like i wasnt paying attention and then i realized, my eyes were closed. When i opened my eyes i saw the same image when i had my eyes closed.I didnt think of that as me using my third eye, more my senses were creating an image in my head, but i like the idea of seeing with your eyes closed much better, it'd be pretty cool.

worldwatcher: All right, I'll try that. Thanks. Also, the more this happens, the more I concentrate on it, and the longer I'm able to go before the sight fades.

Monoman: o.o It happened to me once back in high school, as well...I don't remember whether the teacher was teaching or the class was watching a movie, but I had my propped up on my hands trying to make it look like I wasn't trying to sleep (also to prevent snoring if I DID fall asleep), when I suddenly closed my eyes, but still saw the empty desk in front of me as if my eyes were wide open.

You can! a simulation anyway.

Go into a room with no windows...Or one that you can make perfectly dark.
Once dark, give your eyes a chance to adjust to the darkness...A couple of minutes is good.

Try to steady your eyes.
Then Flip ON the lights, for 1-2 seconds, DON"T MOVE YOUR EYES,then turn them off.

you will see a snapshot, of the room, embedded on your retina, for about 30 seconds or so..Pretty weird..

Try it again, but hold your hand in front of your face while the lights are on.

When you turn off the lights..Your hand will be there, in the snapshot..floating....

ive done this subconsciously , but then when i woke up a few minutes later after effort, i noticed that what i thought i was seeing and what was there was noticably different. I didnt realize the difference half asleep with my eyelids fully shut, so i think its your brain filling in the information, or something to do with EM waves projecting thought into your brain.

I'll try that, my room happens to be in the basement and it is scary dark down here.

It is possible that the sight some of you have recieved with your eyes closed came from some other person's third eye.

Anyone with a third eye can do other things as well. If that's you, then after your human death you shall resurrect completely into a spirit (also known as an angel or a ghost).

Also pay attention to the people you see with your eyes closed. The people you do see might be the ones really with the third eye causing you to see what you see.

The phenomenon you are experiencing can be a couple of things.

It could be a form of astral projection. But it is more likely extraretinal vision. This is a psychic ability that allows the possessor to see without eyes or with eyes shut.

does anyone ever tried to walk around keeping your eyes shutted at the moment you feel you're "seeing with closed eyes"?

i'm asking this because it also happened to me, but i realised that it was just a immediate image. when i try to walk around i smashed my face into the closet.

It is said that everyone has the potential to open the ajna chakra (brow chakra). Here is some info about it, hope it helps someone (reference at bottom):

"The brow center, or ajna chakra, is composed of ninety-six petals. Located in the center of the forehead midway between the eyes, it is especially interrelated with the crown center. Indeed, in some Tibetan scriptures it is not separately mentioned, but it is regarded as part of the 'thousand-petalled lotus'."

"In structure, the brow chakra differs from the other centers in that it appears to be divided into two segments, one half colored rose and yellow, the other blue and purple. (Probably because of this peculiarity, it is described in Indian literature as having two petals). This center is linked with the pituitary gland; interestingly, this gland is also composed of two parts, each of which has a separate function. This is the chakra which is mainly concerned with the integration of ideas and experience with the capacity for organization. (In Indian Tantrism it is said to embody the tattvas of mind and prakriti or primary substance.)"

"It is the organ of visualization and the center of perception, which may be directed upward toward higher things or downward to the mundane world; it thus reflects the twofold nature of the mind."

"If the etheric brow chakra is well developed and its interconnections with its astral counterpart are open and active, then clairvoyance of a higher order is possible. When it is interconnected primarily with the throat center, this indicates an active use of the creative imagination."

Next time this happens, go find a mirror. I have a sneaking suspiscion that some people actually have their eyes open when they think they're closed. Also, do you see clearly, or is it just a 'blur', because your optical nerves still fire a little bit when you close your eyes (look at a bright light, then close your eyes. The light is still there for a while, becasue your nerves are still firing off).

Hey, it makes about as much sense as astrally projecting or finding your third eye.
