Last night I happened across a 2 hr. long documentary being aired on HBO entitled "Casino Jack & The United States of Money." Even though it appears to have been made sometime in 2010, last night was the first time I had ever heard of it. Needless to say, it was quite a revealing look into the inner working of our government and how special interest money has corrupted our elected officials, especially within the ranks of the Republican party. When it was over, I literally threw up.

I am a documentary junkie and I have to say that of all the documentaries I have ever watched, I can't think of a single one that is more important for every American to see than this one. The level of corruption that is revealed in this documentary lies at the core of all our problems here in America and if we fail to address it, we are doomed as a democracy. We must find a way to "Get The Money Out Of Politics!"

I spent the later half of last night and the first part of this morning searching for a site where this film could be viewed for free so that I could provide a link but unfortunately, I was unsuccessful. I'm hoping that maybe someone here in the ATS community who is more computer literate than I will come to my rescue with a link where everyone can view it. The best I can do for now is to offer a youtube trailer;

While most people will only remember Abramoff for his highly publicized role in the Indian casino scandal, the truth of the matter is that the Indian casino scandal was just the tip of the iceberg and Jack Abramoff was nothing more than the fall guy for a very large group of very corrupt politicians, including some Democrats.

Ever wonder where Grover Norquist got his start? Ever wonder how Tom Delay got so much power in Congress? By the time you get through viewing this film you will realize that these people could not have had any closer ties to Jack Abramoff unless they were his siamese twin. Even Ralph Reed and the religious right-wing contingent of the Republican party were as closely associated to Abramoff as Capone was to organized crime. And the list doesn't stop there, that's just the beginning! Jack Abramoff, as it turns out, had more influence over our government than the President himself and when Republicans see just how far his tentacles reached within their establishment, they will probably end up on Prozac or some other anti-depressant drug.

At this point in time, I would strongly urge every American to view this documentary by whatever means possible. Check your HBO listings or go to Netflix or just do whatever it takes.

If you ever wondered what "U.S. Political Madness" really looks like when fully manifested, this is it!

I try not to judge entire groups of people by the actions of a few and despite the fact that I describe myself as a progressive democrat, I have voted for a few republican candidates in the past. But, after viewing this film, I don't know if I could ever consider voting republican again. It's as if the words "Republican" and "Corruption" are synonymous with one another.

Sometimes the truth hurts, but it is what it is and if we continue to just turn our heads the other way and refuse to accept reality, then we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Indeed, Flatfish, indeed. I think I'll watch it later on, as I am just getting over throwing up after listening to Philip Marshall talk about his latest book, The Big Bamboozle.

I also love documentaries and this one looks very good. Im frustrated though because i cant find the full film online or on demand HBO. Cant wait to watch it.

Imo it is so easy to see how money has completely corrupted all of our politicians and compromised our economic system. Inside job is another good documentary that i bought on dvd and try to show to as many people as possible. You will never learn this kind of information from any of the so called "independent" media corporations.

Its amazing how so many people are in the dark about what goes on in our government. We should all do our part by spreading these documentaries to anyone we can.

Thanks for the link, but I'm not sure I want to expose myself to that particular site. Who knows, I could end up on somebody's watch list or something.

On the other hand, sometimes that's what it takes to get the truth out. Thanks again.

I don't understand why HBO wouldn't offer it up on their video on demand, it aired twice last night. However, I did notice that it is available on Netflix. I think it can even be viewed by signing up for a 1 mo. free membership. So far, that's the only available online method of viewing it that I've been able to find.

However you end up viewing it, my advice would be to have a plastic bucket or a sick-sac nearby when you do.

Frankly I'm getting tired of watching how messed we are, I've seen several myself. (My fav rage docu being gashole)

I wish they'd start shooting docs that have viable solutions at the end, these aren't good for my blood pressure.

I never said it was all the Republicans fault, but before you go spouting off about how it's "ALL OF THE ABOVE," I'd watch the documentary if I were you. While I mentioned that there were some Democrats involved, they were very few in number. It's definitely NOT "Every Politician."

It's easy to just stand back and say that the other guy is just as bad and it's a very common response from someone who just got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but that's hardly the case here. The corruption depicted in this documentary falls squarely on the Republican party with few exceptions and it's a Democrat who exposes a great deal of it.

Remember when Steve Martin thought the sniper was shooting at the cans and he was running around yelling; "It's the cans, it's the cans?" Well, this time it's the money. We have to get the money out of politics, period.

While I absolutely agree that some solutions would be nice, I firmly believe that the first step to correcting any problem is understanding how it came about in the first place.

For those who are interested, it looks like the next airing of this documentary by HBO will be at 7:00 p.m. CST on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012. This might be a good time to pre-program your Tivo. For now, that's the best I can do.

Thanks for posting this - I don't get HBO so I'm hoping it is released on some other venue, like Hulu. Abramoff also released a book on his dealings, "Capitol Punishment: The Hard Truth About Washington Corruption From America's Most Notorious Lobbyist".

Yes. And since this conversion of us citizens into consumers and of our govt from purveyor of Public Service to takers of Big Money has been built up over decades, the fight to end it will take time. In fact, Citizens United added fuel to the fire, but more people are now seeing it's we who are being burned.

Public Citizen and Common Cause have spoken up about this for 40 years. Maybe more people will check out these organizations to find out at least one way to make their voices heard.

Maybe a citizen can rent their church hall and invite the public to a screening of this and other documentaries.

This may be a good documentary. But if it says that our form of government is a "democracy", that's the first red flag.

The second red flag is that it makes a distinction between the two parties, when there is no distinction. Same old divide and conquer tactics.

The third red flag is that it's all about the money. Those in the top layer of the system are hardly in it for the money. Money is a tool to control the masses.

It sounds like this film has an agenda. That doesn't mean there isn't any truth to some of the content. But it sounds as if one should be cautious of their slant of the "facts".

Still, thanks for the recommendation. I'd like to see what they have to say.

You can stream it on Netflix for those with accounts. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, as I too love documentaries that educate and inform.

Best,
