So I was thinking about this thread the other day and I wanted to tell you ATS. That Hitler liked dogs. So because Hitler liked dogs then dogs=bad right? Because thats the reasoning were going with here.

tvtropes.org...

A logical fallacy that assumes that anything done or liked by a bad person must be bad itself.

The premise seems to be that bad people must have a way to tell if something is evil. Either that, or bad people are repulsed by anything that isn't at least as evil as they are. Whatever the reason, bad people magically will only associate with things that are bad. Therefore people claim a thing is bad because bad people associate with it.

This is a concept called The Association Fallacy, which often overlaps with Godwin's Law, due to how often Hitler is used for this.

Nazis used Lighting ss symbol, therefor lighting ss symbol is now bad.

We don't think mass murder is bad because Hitler, Stalin, or other bad people did them. We think those people are bad because they committed mass murder. In other words, this trope is backwards. A thing being bad stands on its own as bad. It would be like...

Bob: I want to commit genocide.
Alice: The Nazis committed genocide.
Bob: Really? What was I thinking? I can't believe I was going to do something the Nazis did.

Another thing about this thread is how some members condemn this guys for using the SS symbol while in the same breath deny the holocaust or throw around the term Zionist Jew.

Star for that post!

You know the OP wasn’t meant to be a logical argument. This was nothing more than American-haters finding something new to jump on.

It’s all good. They like to come out and pat each other on the back once in a while to reaffirm their place in the world.

What's your point?

I don't recall anyone denying the holocaust, and Zionists had Nazi ties. Not much of a compelling argument you have there.

When all else fails, resort to calling us America haters

Is that all you can come up with?

No, but my logical arguments (and that of others) are somehow dismissed by platitudes and rhetoric.

Topic Evaluation 101…Follow along, sir, as I will take it slow for you.

This is a depiction of a Marine Scout Sniper platoon’s flag…

This is NOT Nazi worship and should NOT be taken as a reference to Nazis.

Any questions?

Here is a post from kn0wh0w that kindly contradicts your logic.

So Chris Rodda, the man who wrote the article went online and started looking for this particular flag.

this is what he found.

In the course of searching, I found what I’m certain is the exact flag in the Marines’ photo. It’s the only one anywhere on the web with a blue background, and laying the image from the website on top of the Marines’ photo shows that every dimension of the flags are identical, from the size and proportions of every part of the logo to the slightly off-center position of the logo on the flag. You can even see in the Marines’ photo that their flag had the same creases from being folded as the flag for sale on the website.

The description of the flag on the website, Traders of the Lost Surplus, is an “ss double runic flag, a favorite and well know ss flag,” and the entire website is full of Nazi stuff.

compare the above picture to this one

and he might be on to something here.

So tell me, where do you propose a Marine find the flag I showed you??? Especially since the Marine Corps has banned the use of SS logo in any form.

Do you know how much it costs to design and produce a new flag? Of course you don’t! It’s expensive!

Rather than a group of Marines spending a few hundred bucks on a flag for a photo, why not have a family member send one that’s CLOSE to the same likeness and readily available?

You know nothing about the camaraderie in the Marine Corps or what any of this symbolism means, so please don’t pretend that you do, sir.

That flag just HAS to be bought online.
It's the only one in the world.
One of a kind.
No others like it.

ever.

That website hand makes all of their items. And they most certainly do not buy them from producers.
That would just be completely crazy.

Their website most certainly does not say this either.

As most of these flags are every where on the internet, we have decided to close
these out to make room for more of our 100% cotton flags!
All flags listed are now $7.50 each:
5 or more $7.00 each:
10 or more $6.50 each:
20 plus $6.00 each:

And the Marines have not used that logo for scout snipers for the past 30+ years.
never.

They are Nazis.

I propose that Marines get a new flag and stop using Nazi symbolism, it's not that expensive compared to the wars they maintain so I don't believe cost is an issue.

They are American marines - how about you do the right thing and give them the benefit of the doubt. No one really believes they are Nazis. It's not like any of them was around for that war and knows all the old Nazi trademarks...

"Benefit of the doubt" must be earned. Using Nazi symbolism doesn't earn that respect from me.

That's not exactly what the term "benefit of the doubt" means, in case you didn't know.

You don’t understand Marine Symbolism and it's not for YOU (or others) to decide what symbols Marines use, sir.

These are known NAZI symbols, right?

Now take a look at the Marine Sharpshooter badge. This badge has been worn by Marines on their uniform for a LONG time…before WWII.

How about the band KISS? Is there NAZI symbolism here?

This is close to the NAZI skull and crossbones too! Is this Nazi symbolism??

You’d better get on the Army’s case too then because they use it.

Holy # man. Nazis used skulls. This is an outrage.
We must ban skulls immediately.

Eagles also. The Hitler Youth used that for symbolism.
America has a Nazi mascot.

America is all Nazis. Death to America the Fourth Reich

There are no "SS" symbols on the pre ww2 badges, in case you didn't notice.

ETA:

I have already addressed my take on the KISS symbol earlier in the thread. Gene Simmons is a radical zionist who supports Israeli policy.

I honestly do not see why people even get bent out of shape about things like this. Ok it was a stupid thing to do. Move on. I'd say 99.9% of the world hates America. And from what I see on this site, 99.% of members hate the u.s military.

For those of you Non-Americans out there, I want you to realize that there are soldiers from many countries in the m iddle east including, british, aussys, canadians among others. Lets be real, soldiers arent saints, they arent meant to be either. Soliders dont get to choose the wars they fight in or who the enemy is. These men and women enlist willingly in America to step up and fight.

Lets all face it, we all hate war and wish we could all get along. But that just isnt the world we live in. Wars happen and mankind will never be a peaceful species. It bugs me how many Americans in this society today bash the military, with "The military is for losers, or The military is for people cant cut it in the world" posts. Especially when only 1% of Americans have served in the military which makes 99% of those bashing US military nothing but motor mouths. You have no idea whats it is like to up and leave your family for a year to fight in a warzone. To most of you bashing us military you cant even imagine the stress us soldiers are under over there.

I have been lurking this site for a while now, trying to stay silent, and I see very little posts actually defending the military. I admit they probably did know what it was. That picture and all the other dumb things they do, does not even touch the GOOD things they do. But no one ever posts those topics.

How many of you have passed a soldier in an airport and stopped to say thank you?. Maybe one? If that.

If we let the Nazis own that symbol, or any other, then the Nazis win. ... And the marines vowed decades ago to never let the Nazis win.

If you are one who allows the Nazis to own any symbol, or anything, then you are a Nazi supporter and enabler to allow them such authority and ownership of ... well, anything.

This is yet and another military tradition that has been ruined by bleeding heart liberals crying over something they don't understand and assigning meaning to someone else's symbol. In the name of being PC the Marine Corps has now banned the symbol for scout snipers that have been used since the 1970s that's over 40 years.

Next these pansies are going to have us changer helmets because they look like the old German ones. What else is next?

They probably knew what it used to mean but they like the design and it signified what they were scout snipers. These soldiers are not going to get in trouble and they shouldn't I am sure that this insignia has been used by their unit in every scout sniper unit since their inception.

Liberals will ruin the world or everyone.

Reminds me of what happened this Christmas. Some Christmas paper was delivered and sold as an outlet and somebody brought it home and found that there were Kanjis on it(Kanji is also a swastika) that's at least what the people wanted think it was. There was a big uproar and made the news people saying they had swastikas on the Christmas paper. No one ever thought about that symbol is far more ancient than Germany and the paper came from China where it holds its own meaning. Just more people blowing things out of proportion. If it was me I was just taking the paper back.

As far as what goes on with this military unit people should just mind their own business and except that they had adopted that symbol almost 40 years ago.

Next thing you know they'll be sending soldiers to sensitivity training. Sarcasm intended.
