I can tell you that paranoia is of no use in situations such as this. One of the findings of the 911 commission was that intelligence agencies needed to be better organized. If this bothers you and you are American, I would suggest joining an organization such as the NRA, which is ever vigilent for any suggestion of governmental tyranny. Don't trust the ACLU, they would sell out your Second Amendment rights in a New York second.

In times of war, liberty has to take backseat to security, but the assurance that our liberties will be restored fully must be guarnteed. The expiration of the AWB, is proof that effective activism can preserve liberty.

The fact is, Grady is on his way out. The rest of you have many decades ahead. Many of you have children or are yet to have children. You are the inheritors of what has been created by the Grady generation. Think about that.

No wonder he says things like "In times of war, liberty needs to take a back seat to security", I doubt he cares what liberty you have in the future, let alone now.

It is time for an example to be made by those who have the most to lose.

The fact is, I have done more for the cause of liberty than you are ever likely to do. The government has always had measures in place to ensure security during times of extreme duress. It happens all the time. Civil unrest has been used to institute curfews and the like. The State of Florida has, because of the hurricanes has had stiff civil restraints to protect property and person in the wake of the devestation.

Read my post. I am saying that there are ways to contribute to the furtherance of freedom besides whining and carping about the government.

The fact is the current population of Americans are so unpatriotic and unwilling to sacrifice anything for their liberty that in effect they are undeserving of the legacy of their forbears and therefore I don't have much concern for you freedom.

With any luck, I have somewhere between 20 and 50 years left. I will continue to contribute to the cause of liberty as long as I am here. What will you do, foment paranoia and sedition?

Of course the "head for this hills!" mentality can be labelled as paranoid.

My fear is soon that mentality will be labeled as terrorist.

So it seems that Porter Goss is our new National Intelligence Director:

Goss is only the second congressman to lead the CIA, following former president and House member George H.W. Bush.

Unbelievable. It's almost like this whole thing has been, um, planned!
*coffee smell getting stronger...*

And regarding, the internment camps -

On 9/11 did we not enter a time of war that will not end until every last terrorist has been rooted out and imprisoned? This "war on terror" is more than just a catchy phrase, right?

And didn't we just loosen the borders to mexico - in order not to discriminate against illegal aliens getting jobs!?!. Is this administration not opening the doors to terrorism, and responding to terrorist threats by increasing surveillance on its own citizens?. It's not that I have anything to hide, it's that this makes no sense, unless the goal is indeed a police state maintained by the elite.

I hear you Grady, there is more to do than carping, but jeez, the coffee smell is becoming overpowering - and activism combined with this sort of surveillance capability that is being formed, could leave one's balls flapping in the breeze should the motives of the political elite turn out to be nefarious after all. I respect your faith in the current systems, but I'm not sure I consider it very good advice.

I do however, promise that this will be my final post in which I use the tired coffee metaphor.
