Girls as young as 13 are being given contraceptive implants at school without their parents’ knowledge.
Nurses insert devices into their arms which temporarily prevent pregnancy by releasing hormones into the blood.
Last year 1,700 girls aged 13 and 14 were fitted with implants, while 800 had injections which have the same effect.
The 2010/11 NHS figures also show that 3,200 15-year-old girls were fitted with implants, and 1,700 had injections.

Implanted, these devices were implanted!

This is outrageous, a severe violation of the rights of the students and the parents,
13 year old girls, they are just children!

The responsible parties need to be charged with crimes, or this
orwellian governance will advance and there will be no stopping it.

ETA: even the title they chose hides the fact that the girls were implanted with this device!
Its not like someone just handed them a pill to swallow!

That is unacceptable. A 13 or 14 year old is not old enough to give consent on their own behalf. I find it funny that schools so much complain about having to take on the role of parent, and then administrators do things like this.

If a child of that age is not able to consent to sex, they obviously cannot consent to contraceptives. My family would be very, very rich, if this happened.

I don't have a problem with it if they had the kid's consent. Legal? No, but I don't have a problem with bending/breaking dumb laws.

I wonder how these kids were procured. Did they walk into the nurse's office and say "I'm sexually active and need some birth control." or were they recruited?

Is this a gov't program, is this a UK policy to inoculate young women against pregnancy, like virus vaccinations?

I thought these were those vaginal implants used in the US until I read the article... man I was about to go off the deep end.

This isn't nearly as bad as I had originally thought. In America 16 year olds can get birth control pills. Same thing I assume, just targeting a lower age group since kids are becoming sexual active at younger ages...

I would assume that there is still a lawsuit in the making somewhere in here...

Doesn't matter a diddly doo crap if it was contraceptives or vitamins. NOBODY should inject ANYTHING into a child without the parents' knowledge and permission.

Critical life-saving situations excepted, of course.

Yes, if it is a teen with another teen. Even someone 18-21 with some 16+ is so close in age that I don't see the problem.

it must be a revolting time to be a child nowadays. TV tells you to express freedom and strength through sating your carnal desires. School and Govt right behind them now handing out implant contraceptives.

I wonder if they approved this because they know that abstinence a colossal joke to the new generation? sort of like a Brave new world type of solution to the problem (that they purposely nurtured with Hollywood). I do and I would hope that when the time comes that our relationship is open enough so that they can come to me and not the school nurse. If it isn't, and they feel more comfortable going to the school nurse, then maybe that's my fault.

Actually I'm am far from young. What amazes me is that the difference in maturity between a 30 year old and a 17 year old seems to vanish once the 17 year old turns 18. Well it doesn't, but laws are written so that the line is drawn somewhere. These may not apply in every case.

If these kids are already having sex, and I'm sure there are a lot more 13-15 year olds having sex then we would like to admit. Isn't it better that they are able to get birth control that they may not get otherwise if they had to go through their parents? Do we really need more kids having kids?

I'm not saying I agree with kids having sex this young but it happens.
