When playing with a toy invented by the system you have to play by the rules of the system. If you dont like the way it goes you have the option to change or dont participate. Complaining about a situation and doing nothing to stop it is only going to waste your time and energy.

you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born inside a prison that you cannot smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind.

There goes my google email address....

All I am saying is if a company hired a private eye to watch someone, where and what they ate, what they like to buy, following their every move in public... I am sure stalking law's would come into effect somewhere along the way's.

So the question is, why is internet stalking viewed as perfectly acceptable?

I dont know about you but i'm getting fed up with the whole Internet thing especially since commercial advertising has buggered up the whole net experience!! I used to be able to browse pages real quick but now with all the ads everywhere its becoming a nightmare! Pages take ages to flip to the next page because there is constantly some ad trying to display itself... and with all this privacy invasion sounding like its getting worse i'm really thinking of switching the Net off.... but if i do this i'll have to go back to TV and i dont watch that much on TV now... just my fav Series!

You got automatic robots on phones too and they really pee me off....

Yeah I have an android based phone, and I am not impressed to learn I am about to loose more of my freedoom (like I had much to begin with, but anyways ...)

Lets hope common sense prevails with this issue, as up to now I have been loving android, as it is an open operating system, but this news just makes me feel that system is being reigned in, which of course defeats its purpose.

We could all start using Bing.com. I just tried it, and the results were just as good as Google. I just type "google" out of habit, but that's the only reason why I use it. I also have a gmail account, but I don't like the interface of it.

DATA ON YOU AND ME.

I sorta chuckle when you see all this drama and attention right now on the mega upload guy when in the past you could google a warez release title and it would link you to mega upload.

You don't see the feds knocking on googles door....

whaddup, I logged in just to correct you. Google has a stupppid amount of cloud services and infrastructure architecture design services you clearly have no clue about. They are a technology company. Not a parts manufacturer. Why don't you deny some ignorance before posting next time...

K, now that I'm done with that ^, google has already been storing our information. Comon guise, its the internet! You know none of our information is REALLY safe

Except Google has a proven record of privacy control.

Thus, I don't care.

That's exactly why I haven't used google as a main search engine in sometime they got too big for their own good As long as I'm not using a search engine to do harm why does google want to know about me, it's none of their business where I search. I certainly don't have money to spare for any stupid so called "bargains" Since retailers mark-up prices anyway before they put something on sale. (used to work at a regular department store) Dirty little trick that retailers use they don't give "deep" discounts out of the goodness of their hearts!

After reading this I totally rushed to dump everything Google.

Having given it some thought I'm keeping all my Google stuff.

The best camouflage in this world is to look and act ordinary.

I'll use other methods of email and search for certain things and contacts but overall I'll stay right out in the open with all the other suckers.

Clean cut hair, button down collard shirt, slacks that fit and a Gmail account. Just like everyone else.

I'm already sick of Google and their cooperation with the Police State, but this news makes me want to cancel anything to do with Google.

I've been using Google search, news aggregate and Gmail for years because it is the highest quality web based email (in my opinion) available. However, after reading their new policy, I plan to relocate my web based boxes elsewhere and then only use Google for non-registered search engine queries when needed.

It's basically saying goodbye to a service and old friend that once promised to do no evil... but that has now found a way to dance around that promise.

I know this would be difficult to do but I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of my smartphone because it's nothing but a data mining tool for the alphabet agencies. Normally I have the "I have nothing to hide so don't worry" attitude but all this spying and loss of privacy is getting out of hand.

The thing is, they have already been monitoring and storing all our data, I doubt opting out would have made that big of difference but their blatant in your face attitude is overwhelming. Add this to all the other internet privacy laws that have been in the news it's enough to drive a sane person crazy.

I SO agree with you!!! This is PRECISELY why I cancelled my Facebook Acount! They were becoming WAY too intrusive AND selling all our personal info for profit... I explained to ALL of my Fascistbook friends exactly WHY I was opting out and would NOT be coming back. Haven't missed them since. HOPEFULLY, many people will do the same with Google. F them!!!

For a good search engine I have used dogpile for about 10 years now.
It uses a bunch of search engines and you can modify it to your preferences.
I never did like Google, and this just is the nail in the coffin!
Another rip-off is those FREE credit reports, you go on there and all of a sudden you get all kinds of spam, I warned my boss that it was just a way to get people that have their credit in mind and get their info.. otherwise how would they pay for those cheesy commercials? He told me he gets all kind of crap now, even pop-ups!

So spying on you is okay as long as you don't know it?

As if the people complaining about privacy issues weren't saying this is what was happening?

Come on now.

Could this change have anything to do with Google's relationship with the US government? There's been concern about the services Google provides to NASA and the CIA.
