This disappearing earthquake has me perplexed. The trace shows up on seismometers up and down the eastern states. Here are a few more links to view (btw, I've noticed that "the event formerly known by USGS as ID # usb00083qw", shows more clearly in the East-West and North-South directions, than it does vertically)
Grayson, KY
Lamont-Doherty seismos (The EQ shows nicely on most of the stations with this page set to show All, short-period, E-W direction. It shows from Meadville, Pa to Vermont
)

If it wasn't an earthquake, what was it? Bolide hitting the earth? Coal mine explosion? Coordinates on Google map

Odd.

I can't post it, but if you go to (Corbin, VA) you will see it very clearly. I don't read the graphs real well, but I'm pretty sure that is what I'm looking at. It seems to come across as two different events.

I wonder if there are some storm systems coming down the pipe that have Mother Pele stirred up. Kilauea is a sight to behold on any day, but with earthquakes and lava flows-it is stupendous.

that is an update on quakes and lava

Yes, I was going to come in and ask tonight what is thought about the swarm at Kilauea, I seem to have had one after the other today. Thank you.

Looking for 2 quakes, SW Pacific, Antarctica or South of Australia, showing on
LISS SNZO
arrival times @
22/02/2012 04:40
and 22/02/12 05:32ish
thought the 2nd one may have been this I found on Geofon, but its too late to match the trace, at that distance the arrival time would be

F-E Region: Fiji Islands Region
Time: 2012-02-22 05:33:43.3 UTC
Magnitude: 4.6 (mb)
Epicenter: 178.55°W 17.95°S
Depth: 600 km
Status: C - confirmed

but its too late to match the trace, at that distance the arrival time would be ;
P wave = 05 38 12
S wave = 05 41 48
LR wave = 05 44 58

Even the New Caledonians don't have a match

Seems they are removing the top of the mountain

Lindytown has received a lot of media attention due to the town being located in the shadows of a large mountain top removal operation owned by Massey Energy.

from that Wiki link

eventually the mines were closed and the land was reclaimed.

possibly the seismo trace was an old mine shaft collapse

Wow! I wondered if there was more mining going on but thought nah....because the last incident ended up in a law suit in West Virginia so I out that thought in the back of my mind.

Here is an article/story that really saddens me. www.wesjones.com...

It is called "Death of a Mountain". First fracking and now this kind of mining. How sad for our home we call Earth. This is really sad ya'll!!!

You are real funny! I think I will start calling you Funnyman instead of Puterman.

I have seen it all over the place...but not on USGS anymore.

Tell me WHY Funnyman!
Why did they delete it and why is no one talking about the 3.4 being caused by noise other than an EQ? Grrrrr..... USGS is making me mad.
When they delete one they should have to give us a reason WHY. Don't ya think??

Has anyone noticed that the USGS is now listing four quakes on Feb 21 at USGS New Madrid link and Map? And that the original 4.0 has been downgraded to a 3.9? Interesting.

Yeah I noticed that and then I noticed on down the list (several days I think) that Maine slid in there too!
They are really sneaky at USGS.

Yup, I understand what you are saying. It is annoying. Looking around the area on Google Earth this is mining country. There are various slurry ponds etc. I think someone mentioned something about mines. Has to have been mine related.

BLA.US.00.BHZ.2012.053

I had a listen to it. Whatever it was it definitely happened and it was not a collapse I would have said. A blast I guess. (I am assuming here that a collapse would have a similar sound to a rock fall/avalanche and it does not sound like that.)

This is probably nothing, but just for the record in case. Sitting here watching TV and I felt a very slight wobbling. Time now is near 9pm us central time, location upper MidWest area.....

I just had a pressure change in my ear.

I wouldn't be surprised if all this was just me. But I feel really weird suddenly.
