Just in case the old fella has gone to bed...

The answer is no...that site lists data from 3 or more sources (often conflicting). The USG data tends to be the most reliable, should you chose one of those listed, but often data changes over time.

I personally leave the site running while I'm at work, as I like the visual representation and regular updating.

Ah, no becuase they use more than one feed like I do they can have 2 or more versions of the same quake - which i see that jockey person has answered.

And no the 'old fella' has not gone to bed

Before I shuffle off down the passageway on my zimmer frame having taken my alzheimer's meds this is just to let you all know that the free version of my QVSData will be available once again from Monday of next week. The free version now picks up USGS, EMSC, GeoNet (NZ) and GeoScience (Aust). There is a new feature, in addition to the normal alerts system that runs when the service is running, called RED (Rapid Earthquake Display). This requires the QVSData program to be open (which the service does not) and picks up USGS 1 minute data files, believe it or not every minute.

You do NOT need a browser open for any of this. More details on Monday.

We just had a 7.9 in the Phillipines region:

M7.9 - 139km E of Sulangan, Philippines 2012-08-31 12:47:38 UTC

NO tsunami warning released at the moment I write this.

Edit: Ok, you can delete my post as the post 2 above is more informative. Interesting to see that we all wrote at the same time, guess we all have a realtime alert running on our phone or computer

Edit to add: very interested to see how this plays out today and in the days to come... so much tectonic energy being released lately. Since I'm about 100 miles north of the Brawley CA swarm I'm watching my animals carefully to see if they start acting weird...

I was wondering if this recent EQ would trigger an increase in activity in Southern California, from the last 35 minutes worth of data it does appear to be increasing.
