Not really an earthquake issue, but has the planet shifted a few degrees off line or what?
All my Google Map icons seem way off the mark.
I just noticed it this morning on my AutoNZmaps, some of the markers, especially noticable ones in Fiordland seemed to be quite a bit offshore, I thought it might be becasue of the larger sized icons, but I just checked the NZ Earthquakes pages and MWE as well and its the same

Couple of recent quakes near Darfield the maps are showing the marker/icon n the Southern Alps

Its not until you zoom down to about 1km scale that they are acually where the address/co-ordinates are at
heres and example
goo.gl...

see how the pop up tage is off to the right, now zoom out and watch them seperate even more

weird

You forgot The Extinction Protocol 2012 and beyond!

Is that an ATS thread? No, I don't think so

And anyway why would I be directing anyone to that site?
- unless they are wanting to buy a book of course.

Seems there is a new version of Google Maps released June 22, when you import the KML file into Google Maps the icons are not where they are meant to be. Above 20 metre scale the maps are inaccurate.
Bit of an issue unless you can write your own KML files and include the new hack to fix it.
Could be the end of Muzzies Interactive Maps, there doesn't seem much point if the markers are not where they are meant to be.

As it applies to all previous maps created, thats 3 years work down the drain

Others are complaining too
groups.google.com...#!topic/google-maps-js-api-v3/WQdwZ3jf6p4

Everything still works in Google Earth, so I guess I could just post the KML file address with a static map from GPS Visualiser (still works there OK).

Yeah sux eh.
Down the drain as in the maps are not accurate anymore.
The only way I can fix it is change the icon/marker images so they are offset, so that all the icons on all the maps change to the right position simultaneously , there is no way this side of retirement that I would have the time to go back and redo 1275 maps

I'll work on it.

Yep I could do that, but its a bit messy.
Because the further you zoom out the more its off.
heres an example screenshot of the difference at 200km scale.

Its effecting the World Mag 7+ project worse, as thats at 5000km

What hack is needed?

We can't have Muzzy's interactive maps going down. Email me to see what is needed and I will try and advance the Pro release to get you running again. Writing a KML file is easy - I just need to know what you need.

Thanks Bob, I just want to go AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG

I was well on my way to making everything interactive.
Why on earth did they have to mess with something that ain't broke?

In protest I'm going to use Open Street Map instead of Google

Unfortunately now unless viewers have Google Earth they can't inter-act.
