No power you say. Money = Power and money is something the Queen has lots of. Forbes estimates her personal fortune at $450 million and that's not even counting her state-owned properties and treasures.

According to conspiracy theorists:

If we include her properties, then we are probably talking trillions. What the freeloader does with all this wealth is anyones guess, but we the British people never get to see any of it.
When the economy crashes and everything goes tits up, maybe the Queen can bail us all out, but somehow I doubt she will .

Queen Elizabeth II the largest landowner on - $17.6 Trillion.

But anything that is under the British crown is owned by the people of Britain. It is not like the Queen can just sell crown property and add it to her personal fortune, if the Monachy ever disolves, all crown property will be handed to the Government. The problem with conspiracy theories is that the facts are usually distorted to support the agenda of the conspiracy.$240m dollars hardly puts the queen up there on the rich list in terms of wealth does it? The Al Nayan royal family of Abu Dhabi is worth upwards of £550 billion, now that is real money and it makes what the queen has look like chicken feed.

Our Queen deserves the life she gets from the tax payer as her life is effecitvley enslaved to the British public. She is always on duty and it is not like she can just book a week off and head to Malaga on her summer hols. The Queen does not interfere in politics and represents our country with great honour and dignity. She is respected the world over and is nothing more than a symbolic figure head for Britain and its values. Long live the Queen.

Sorry what?

Erm has someone left open the stargate/time machine? there appears to be people living in the past walking in left right and center, where are all these people who live in the past coming from?

Since when did owning land give you the right to influence any of these current affairs, what has the queen got to do with this at all?

The queen has absolutely no say in UK politics & decision making, if you think otherwise please start a new thread and provide evidence of that

So can those of you who clearly have issues with the Queen and the British Empire of old, stop derailing this thread with there hate & drivel, lets keep it on topic, relevant & current please

You make it sound like she has a hard life. I bet just about anyone in this country would swap places with her in a heart beat. Nobody really knows the real truth about the monarchy and what they get up to behind closed doors, simply because of all the secrecy that surrounds them. It's so much easier to believe in the fairytale farce of the monarchy.

Well Said BRITWARRIOR.........

I have just read through this thread after posting yestersday and it is amazing how the original topic has spawned into to 'critique' and hatred of the past history of the British empire........... there are obviously alot of unemployed History graduates out there with a point to prove....... however irrelevant it is...!!

To all those with a 'chip on your shoulder' about the British empire........... i'm afraid that's history folks, get over it because you aint changing it !!!

Regarding the OP..... there is no debabte about the Falkland Islands and the leader of Argentina, Christina (aka 'the cow' someone said!) is simply playing to the masses of the Argentinian population and wider South American Bloc with a Nationalist furvour which is quite a dangerous thing to play with IMHO......

Kindred..

you can either 'live in the past' or get with the program............

Historically the British Royal Family has lived through an incredible age and decisions have been made that affected and changed the world forever....some good and some not so BUT think about the future....... the next generation, OUR future King...

On the news last night getting 'stuck in'' with helping and assisting the needy, actually having a valued role in society............ like it or not ... the next generation of British Royals seems to have recognised the need to be more compatible and'at ease' with the everyday man.....

And you make it sound like you're bitter about something? why don't you just come right out with it and stop beating round the bush eh?

OR, you could maybe go and find an appropriate thread to troll perhaps? or start one your self were by you can rant & moan till your hearts content about things that happened 200 - 400 years ago, then you could go about taking all your frustration and anger out on the current UK population which have FA to do with it, OR you could just rant on & on & on & on about pointless facts about our head of tourism "the queen"

Contingency plans have already begun.

There is, and has been since after 1982, a 20,000 stand by force - in the event of intelligence of potential invasion. Secondly, nuclear powered submarines have already been deployed to the area (won't be mentioned by the media; restriction in place) and air defence will shortly be increased.

The 'war plan' for a potential second war includes pre-emptive strikes on military facilities on the Argentinian mainland. It is why Argentina will not seek conflict.

Are you that naive and gullible. No role in politics or current affairs. The monarchy are members of thousands of influential organisations, not to mention their many political engagements and why are most of the monarchy in the armed forces and how many dodgy deals has Prince Andrew been involved in and who do you think he answers too. Open your eyes.
Like I said, for some people it's so much easier to believe in the fairytale farce of the monarchy.

As for the Falklands, the British gov couldn't care less about the people living there. They only care about the oil and that's what it's all about. Another war over oil. Yawn!!!!!!!!!!

Please supply examples where The Queen has had a direct influence on guiding government policy.

The next time any reigning Sovereign tries to force or coerce Parliament into doing her / his will rather than the will of the people it will signify the end of the monarchy.
We have removed Kings and Queens from power in the past and will do so again in the future if need be.

But please, what has any of this got to do with The Falklands?

ETA.
There isn't going to be a war...Argentina isn't that stupid....and no-one wants to see anyone die.

Despite Argentina having no legal, moral or historic right to the Islands the UK offered an equal share in exploratory costs and any future mineral rights, Argentina turned it down? Why?
Just who is being greedy.
And bear in mind Argentina has absolutely no existing oil industry, knowledge and expertise.....so how do you think it's going to extract any oil deposits?

That's possibly the lamest answer I've ever seen on ATS.

It's an open forum mate, anyone can contribute providing they abide by T&C.

Imagine if everyone did that...it'd be a pretty crap site wouldn't it.

No you're absolutely correct, they probably don't, because its irrelevant at that point for them to do so, but the boost will give the economy a much needed shot of life while others fall apart, and that eventually will as always help the British people out in the long run, and that's why were not a 3rd world country, in case you hadn't noticed LOL

It is not a war about Oil at all, it will be the Falkland Government that benefits from the proceeds of the Oil not the UK. This is about the UK protecting its soverignty. Many people seem to think that because the Falklands pays the UK a protectorate tax for the Military support it provides, that it also contributes in taxation too. It doesn't, all monies raised on the Falklands is the sole property of the Falkland Government and its people, they have no obligation to give any of it to the UK government aside from the current treaties already in place for its protection.

I apologise if I seemed antagonistic mate, certainly didn't mean to.

I'm pretty much apathetic towards the Royal Family but that is definately a discussion for another time and place.

To be fair though it will be British companies that do the drilling, manufacture the rigs, refine and distribute the oil etc and pay taxes to the British government.......mind you, if our recent history is anything to go by even though we have all the necssary skills etc the contracts will go abroad and if they don't then I'm sure HMRC would help the relative companies out with their tax bills.

That is enterprise though isn't it, those same companies drill in the USA and many other places and if you are refering to BP then it is 51% US based shareholders anyway. Not really relevant as we are talking about direct tax revenue.

Hahaha.. haha.. hahahahahahaha.. haha.. hahahahahahaha.

Britain, and I still love the fact the Great seems to be omitted more and more, answers to the exact same people the rest of the countries which make up this planet answer to. Those people aren't British, nor do they care about nationality.

The Great British Empire is long gone, but the arrogance remains. It's one of the ironic things I find a day to day pleasure: the pompous and posturing accompanied by the conscious knowledge that Britain is really quite a backward country with little to offer, poor economy, huge social divides and in the exact same poo that everyone else is in.

Keep that stiff upper lip won't you Dear? We wouldn't want to point out everything that the Great British Empire has lost now would we? *smirk*
