I think it could be part of the reason that fiber optic cable has been strung all across the United States. They were laying giant fiber optic cables up through southeast Alaska when I was there a couple of years ago.
EMPs have no effect on fiber optics from what I understand, and the guys who were laying the cable through southeast AK were telling me that it is a HUGE string of cable that they are putting out.
I wonder if there is a connection...edit on 8-12-2011 by Darkblade71 because: pfft

The Chinese, recently bought an electronics company in the small town near us. they are buying many such businesses small and large...they would be hurting themselves if they did this.
Now imagine such an event. No power, cars, plains, train, Phone, all generators and pumps go out,Deliveries of food, water, medical supplies and consumer goods are all dependent on electronics. Oil refineries, coal-fired power plants and even renewable energy systems are all entirely driven by complex electronics. ALL nuclear power plants in America will start melting down because of the backup generators being wiped out and stopping the flow of water to the reactor! We would go back to the stone age. If you have plans to bug out, your now screwed because 95% of a cars don’t work anymore. Everything will have to be calculated in walking distance.

TPTB plan on surviving a nuclear holocaust with their D.U.M.B. facilities. It's just most of the population which will die off

Huh?
What does your post have to do with the price of tomatoes? I don't believe that anybody here is unhappy with their English speaking world. Or that most people on this website have a predilection for losing any conflicts with either real or imagined foes.
Back to the EMP scenario, I have read One Second After and it did make me think about buying an old car. And establishing a worst-case-scenario emergency plan for my immediate family.

Pulses are energy. And without the energy of, say, a nuclear bomb, you cannot get the same range. If you could, then Tesla's wireless energy plants would have come a century ago. And if they do it, it will mean the end of energy monopoly.
