My ancestry's about 70% Irish, a handful of other nationalities, and the rest is Cherokee.

So, basically, part of my ancestors had their land forcibly taken and almost all the rest were likely brought here as high-class slaves.

There's a very ugly saying that I've heard about the Irish being "God's white n-word's". Least I know where that saying comes from now.

Seems like all your ancestery had their lands forcibly taken.

The Irish had theirs taken by the English. The English had theirs taken by the Normans, And the only reason the Normans were a people was because the scandinavian Vikings invaded northern France which became Normandy.

It's how the world unfolds. Sadly but realistically.

Did the English have an understanding of bacteria and Blight? So much so that they intentionally infected the Irish crops with it?

My late father-in-law was Irish.

My late husband was one of 7 kids. His dad came from Cork in the 1950's and married an English girl (my mum-in-law).

I didn't have much respect for my father-in-law, because he used to regularly drink very heavily and beat his wife in front of their kids when they were little, but on every Sunday he would go to church and confess what he'd done, say a few Hail Mary's, then it would all start again the following week. This went on for years. So much for repenting eh?

Yeah we've had it hard but we get on with things and don't let the worse of us hold us back at least not anymore, we've gone forward leaps and bounds, not many other people can say the same

I'm English too, but I have lived here a long time and you obviously don't know squat about either England or Ireland. Kudos to Traydor for that post.

I was hoping it was a joke, albeit rather singular. BTW I have lived here for 51 years and I knew a lot about the country before I came here, and have learned a lot more since. Conversely a lot of Irish people live in the area of England I am from in the south east and are quite happy to be there. See what I mean?

It's probably best you don't drink. As we've stolen all your pubs anyway.

I don't see the humor in joking about a national oppression that ended only a few centuries ago. The Black and Tans were on our soil harassing us when my Grandparents were kids.

I don't care what the patrol in NI says. They're not my ambassadors.

I've reported your post for racism/nationalism or whatever hate it is you're spewing. "Joking" about something doesn't give you a carte blanche to say it. If I "joked" about the 911 victims, African slavery, the Holocaust victims or some form of genocide, my posts would be accordingly removed for insensitivity.

It's not pretty.

However, I'm not a victim of my freckled ginger past.

Where did you say you lived again?

And out of curiosity when was the last time you were in either Northern Ireland or The Republic?
