Don't know what this is. FAA says it wasn't from a plane. Satellite? UFO? Your guess is as good as mine

That's crazy, first thing I'd do is try to find a Geiger counter see if that thing is safe.

Need better pictures to come to any real conclusions. One picture is just not enough.

Probably from a plane somewhere I'm guessing.

How can you tell it is not of this earth? I see nothing at all to suggest it isn't.

Well it has rust on it for one. so it hasn't come from space, no oxygen = no rust.
It appears to have been sloppily welded at some point so my guess is local shennigans.

One of those trebuchet's they hurl pumpkins with (like a commenter at the link suggested) maybe.
probably won't find the culprit unless the event that initiated the metal's airborn state was also recorded, as an explosion or a local event or something of that nature.

Having said this, it prob isn't a trebuchet or catapault because they don't shoot very far and they are pretty recognizable, so it was likely an explosion of some kind, maybe a farming or industrial accident or, once again, shenannigans.

But definatly NOT space debris.

The lack of details is astounding. This was one of the worst examples of reporting that I have ever seen. If the journalist is going to go as far to actually attempt to report something should provide a little more than what was presented. In fact, I just wrote more words than were in the article itself...

Someone trying out a new homemade cannon or mortar.

I have been on a fire call where someone had a object come through a roof and it turned out to be someone with a mortar trying it out firing bowling balls.

The guy had no idea that he could shoot a bowling ball 2 miles.

We knew right away because you could smell burned black powder still on the bowling ball;

So you're 100% sure that with that single picture you can definitively say it's rust and not from space... Please...

IF it came from somewhere outside the Earths atmosphere, upon entering wouldn't it be in contact with oxygen all the way down? Oxygen + extreme temperature = ???

I don't think it is from outer space but I'm not a rocket scientist so...

It's far too metallic and cylindrical to be of terrestrial origin.

I like this comment from that article.

50 to 1 its a Transformer’s turd.

boston.cbslocal.com...

But,seriously,I wonder if there are any tall buildings close to that site.
Cause it looks like,if it is solid, part of a shaft from a motor, possibly from an elevator motor that was cut with a torch or sawzall.
Yes,definitely a motor shaft, they are about that size.
Maybe somebody threw it off a tall building or it fell off, like when you haul material off the roof of a building with a crane.

Maybe we are getting shelled by aliens from Mars....
Really though it does look like a conventional shell casing to me. Not that I really know much about such things..
