Protesters carried photographs of Iran's assassinated nuclear scientist Majid Shahriari and IRGC Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani.

english.farsnews.com...

This struck me as... odd. Remember though, they're "self-driven" protesters. Fars News is kind enough to remind us several times in this article.

Not that I believe that the Iranian government is worth a damn, but it is hilarious to read people from western countries telling other countries to play by international rules. Exactly what was legal about the Iraq war, or NATO running into Libya?

The US, Israel, and Europe, run by elitist banking scum, piss all over the "rules" that are in place and have done so for years.

Cut the BS.

Deal with one issue at a time. No distraction by dragging historical bagges or unrelated events to the current issue, and then only will we find solutions to the problem at hand.

Iran had just moved another chess piece. Be cool, be proactive, not reactive, or we will only be foolishly playing to their tune or tune set by others.

Your post is not only a bunch of gibberish, but it is laughable that your mind is unable to comprehend more than one issue at a time. If anyone needs to cut the BS, it appears to be you.

The link I posted saying there were no hostages was our Foreign Secretary on a live feed. The hostages were 'trapped' - trapped is not the same as kidnapped.

Oh OK..

That's much better.

The Hostages were only trapped as the Embassy got stormed

I'm glad this has been cleared up.

18.03 William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, says all embassy staff and their families are safe and accounted for and accuses Iran of a "grave breach" of the Vienna convention, which protects diplomats. He says Iran faces "serious consequences" for allowing the attack to go ahead.

Scuse the typo - i should have paraphrased with 'people' not hostages. Does my typo alter the reality that there never was any hostages?

And them sanctions have been imposed for a reason.
They have failed to follow international law despite repeated requests and opportunities to comply.

If the Iranian people don't like it I suggest they take it up with those who caused the need for sanctions - their own leaders!

As for hostages.
It was reported by Reuters and various other news agencies.

Maybe if the Iranian police had taken prompt and swift action this confusion would not have occurred.

Didn't realise there was another thread... I'll just post what I did in the other thread.

This is pretty crazy indeed.... was watching a report earlier on the news where they were showing some Iranian news footage and the reporter was saying this happened because of Britain's sanctions and so on... he was almost saying "You deserve it".... now whether the UK or other nations are right or wrong to sanction Iran... it's against international law to "invade" an embassy and while the police were actually overrun.... they were also not really trying to pull protesters from the gates or really stop them climbing into the embassy.

This is much more serious than it seems to be I think.... I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe people believed the reports from reputable agencies like Reuters about hostages being taken because of the historical precedence of Iranians attacking embassies and taking hostages.

But you are correct, I probably should have waited until more facts were known, unfortunately we all get carried away with the moment every now and then.

Britain warns of ‘serious consequences’ after Iranian protesters storm UK embassy

Britain has warned of “serious consequences” after angry mobs stormed the UK embassy compound in Tehran. Scores of protesters smashed windows, hurled petrol bombs, trashed offices and burned the British flag during a rally to protest against sanctions imposed by the UK. One man waved a framed picture of Queen Elizabeth.

"under international law, including the Vienna Convention," the Iranian government has "a clear duty to protect diplomats and Embassies in their country and we expect them to act urgently to bring the situation under control and ensure the safety of our staff and security of our property."

lol theyre blowing it out of proportion to scream 'this means war" if only world responded that way to us & cia's own coup in 1953..

TBH - I can't say I blame them.

You can't blame them?

Well I frigging well can!

Exactly what has the UK done to justify that?

I wonder what your reaction would have been if some British 'students' attacked the Iranian embassy in protest at Iran's continued support of terrorism?

ETA.
Just seen the news that hostages have been taken.
We should expel all Iranian diplomats immediately and send in the SAS as soon as they are ready.

This is inexcusable.

You were born non muslim is what you did, or the fact that you were born period. They haven't forgotten or forgiven england or europe for the crusades. They teach their kids about it in school every day. And yes they do still hold that grudge, i have heard hundreds throw that up in my face.

It's like many black americans, the older generations cannot get over their abuse when they were slaves and so they hate and they teach that hate to their kids and the cycle begins all over again and will never end.

The merri-go-round will never stop until folks stop teaching their kids hate. Extremism is on the rise, soon there won't be any moderates left. When that happens? I'd leave england if i were you and i'd leave pretty fast.

I guess Britain didn't learn from the United States embassy take over in '79. When you have protesters at your embassy door, you better airlift your personnel out pronto! History repeating itself, or is this a set-up for giving a green light to bomb Iran?

Was listening to some of the Uk media coverage of this late last night. There was absolute disgust in the newsreaders voice when he reported how one of the protesters took a picture of the queen out to the crowd and.......turned it upside down. The horror. That is just so wrong. It has to be stopped.

There is definitely going to be a war now or at least those SaS(sy) tough guys will be sent in to get the picture back.

Oh, the perpetuation of the victim status! You know the Crusades happened rather a long time ago. We don't hear about the Islamic invasions across North Africa, Spain, Portugal, Southern Italy, the Balkans, Turkey et al, which happened just before or after the period of the Crusades. The Crusades are kept alive by people who want history to tell a one-sided story.

To topic. The Iranian authorities know what they are doing. They are sailing close to the wind by their antagonism which is designed (one thinks) for domestic consumption. For example, it would be doubtful that the negative reaction from around the world and the UN would have been reported. The fact that the Iranian TV was in situ just as the Embassy was attacked tells a story, as does the fact the protestors were not abused by police.

The fact that any demonstration in Iran which is not sanctioned is repressed would be a worthwhile comparator.

Regards

(Reuters) - An Iranian news agency reported that six people working at the British embassy's compound in northern Tehran had been taken hostage on Tuesday, but withdrew the report from its website minutes later with no explanation.

The semi-official Mehr news agency initially said: "Students from universities in Tehran took hostage six people working for the British embassy in Qolhak garden," referring to the leafy compound that protesters stormed earlier on Tuesday.

(Reporting by Zahra Hosseinian; Writing by Robin Pomeroy; Editing by Mark Heinrich)

Reuters

Okay - this looks like the source of our media's report on the matter. I can understand if you read that hostages have been taken from what would be ordinarily regard as a reputable source - but what excuse do our own journalists have for such shoddy craftsmanship? This was on a 'semi-official' Iranian site for a matter of minutes...

There's far too much at stake here for them to get so sloppy. Our media failed to play its proper societal role during the build up to war with Iraq - it failed to question anything from government and was simply the mouthpiece for the official line. They cannot be permitted to do that again.

But we also have a responsibility not to swallow the official line whole whether it come from media sources, or government sources, or 'top secret' student report web sources. We just did that.....we now know categorically that there never was any 'weapons of mass destruction' in Iraq....that the whole thing was a damned lie. We'll never know how many have died because 'we don't do body counts,'...but we know it's too many.

Don't forget the 10 years of sanctions between the first and second Gulf conflicts. Precisely the same tactic we're witnessing being put into practice here.

My earlier post was basically a transcription from a section of the video. In that transcription I have recorded that a report produced by the Pentagon and US intelligence agencies states;

“Iran’s military doctrine is strictly defensive designed to slow an invasion and to force a diplomatic solution to hostilities. Iran has only limited capacity to project force beyond its borders....

....Iran’s nuclear programme, and its willingness to keep open the possibility of developing nuclear weapons, is a central part of its deterrent strategy.”

And....

'Seven years ago one of Israel’s leading military historians ,Martin van Creveld , wrote that the world has witnessed how the Unites States attacked Iraq for, as it turned out, no reason at all, had the Iranians not tried to build nuclear weapons they would be crazy. Particularly when they’re under constant threat of attack by the United States of course in violation of the UN Charter

I have read many of your posts and have many times witnessed you as the 'voice in the wilderness' on a thread - often the only one speaking any common sense but....your comment;

And them sanctions have been imposed for a reason.
They have failed to follow international law despite repeated requests and opportunities to comply.

If the Iranian people don't like it I suggest they take it up with those who caused the need for sanctions - their own leaders!

...is truly cause for concern. We've been here before - not so long ago. This statement seems to indicate that there is very real possibility that you learned nothing from that.....and if you....who ordinarily expresses grounded common sense is taking this crap on board....what chance is there in enough of the population awake before we sleep walk into another horrendous and evil military adventure....with no actual justification whatsoever.

If Iran were to get anywhere close to loading a nuke it would be vaporised - simple as that.

What about North Korea? That damned place has demonstrated that if you carry the threat of a nuclear deterrent the US and its lackeys leave you alone!!!

Both Iran and North Korea are able to deter an attack without having to possess nuclear weapons. This is why no-one has yet intervened militarily in the case of Iran; it is not because they are entirely innocent.

What North Korea demonstrated was that a country will effectively be allowed to develop nuclear weapons if it has an existing deterrent in place. The opposite is true for countries such as Iraq and Syria.

Like I said once , those students are not blind and see that UK is just like US banning us from having a developed country

US demands Iran to use it's oil to get electricity

Iran demands Uranium.

Us says you should run out of oil and then It will be the US selling oil 1000 a barrel

Iran says " You think you smart , we want alternative ways to produce electricity "

US says " What ? you don't obey me ? here are the sanctions "

Iranian students see those conversation , they get excited , they get into UK embassy to show US ( & UK) is making wrong decisions about Iran

They couldn't protect themselves in the recent incident near Tehran Those diplomats knew it and yet they stayed there.

I think it is time now for them to come home respectfully.
