To the OP...

If you are going to get this professionally scanned, the following are VERY IMPORTANT

1, make sure you get a very high-res 16-bit tiff file, to hell with the size of the file
2, make sure it contains an embedded colour profile, this is extremely important (those doing the scanning will understand what I'm talking about).

Other than that, a cool picture!

Incidently, what size is the print?

...and don't forget to make numerous copies if you get the chance. This is critical.

You don't see too many clear photos of UFO's. This one is going to be difficult to explain away. The thing is massive when compared to the width of the tree tops. No way can that be a model hanging from a string. You can also tell the color in the photo has faded from age. Great find.

If this pic is a hoax 'circa 1970' and the craft is a model photographed to look like it is hovering over the tree tops, it will be nearly impossible to deem as such, having no discernible 'hoax' signifiers.

On the other hand, there were quite a few very sharply focused UFO photographs at this time that are, to this very day, considered photographs of the actual phenomenon.

Having said that, everyone here, at this point, should realize that we do not know for certain what this phenomenon is.

Military experiments, alien visitors or just swamp gas, everything after confirmation of 'real or hoaxed photo' is supposition.

Cool picture either way!

BUSTED That is where my Mexican sombrero hat went too!! Honest That's a nice picture almost too nice.I have family that has had close encounters in the 1970s.

Now see THIS is what I'm talking about. More daylight UFOS and less of the light in the sky non sense that could be anything. Doesn't mean it's alien or even real. But I'm infinitely more impressed with daytime pictures or videos because it's nearly impossible to get a fake by anyone and fakers know it.

Unfortunately at the end of the day this picture isn't going to be the be all end all evidence. At best you can either say it's maybe real or maybe fake if it's never debunked. That's about it. But if real, pretty cool, whether man made or alien made.

Either this is the greatest close up photo of a UFO

OR

Another HOAX

I know very well of a Hoaxer in that area of the Allegheny Mountain's, Murraysville, PA area. WE call her "Orb Queen" i will not speak her name for it is blasphemy. Probably unrelated but I would not put it past her to perpetuate her hoax. Because she will do anything to market her product in these circles. Just search "Orb Queen" on youtube to learn more.

The problem i have with this is frankly this "if real" would have been huge news and probably would have been the most famous photo during that era. So my question this "friend" of your dads sent him this photo yet did not go to the media or some UFO research organization? AS if it were meant to be a post card.

The good old a friend of a friend knows a guy story, always turns out to be a hoax.

If it is too good to be true then it probably is.

Probably a photoshop, BTW i do believe in the UFO phenomena and am a witness. But my gut tells me this is a hoax. I could be wrong and hope that i am. Good luck with the pro scan.

Just my 2 cents

Once again, I work in photoshop EVERY DAY and am taking a class to get certified to TEACH IT and I believe the edges of the photo are the same as when the picture is turned over. If you look at the right corner, its the same.

Nice photo

S&F.

Kinda look's like this one don't you think, a little bit?

(that's from the movie Flight Of The Navigator)

ETA:

The movie Flight Of The Navigator starts in 1978, you said in the OP the photo you have was taken around the 70's.
Makes you wonder where they got the design for the movie, from the imagination or based on a real one.

...yes...an "epic" photo.... *sigh*

The general populace of this website has severely fallen far from the tree lately.

You buy his story & his horribly low quality photo just because it matches your story.

He does not even acknowledge a single request for a high resolution scanned image on the first page.

You're either defectors in a cover up or you REALLY are that bad.

There goes Americas finest secret. Rarely anyone suspects they belong to our government, another win for them. The alien and e.t. theories keep rolling in while the obvious is missed.

Wow after looking at the pic you provided and the pic in the OP, they look the same?
In fact, I think they're the same!!!

The trees are exactly the same.
This is a different photo than the OP yea?

ETA:

Has the photo you provided been proven to be a fake?
Could you link the source to where you got that pic from? Would like to view it, thank you

Great work by the way.

If it's even real, the only thing I can suggest it being of known military projects at the time is a variation of the WASP-II.

Interesting photo, if real, it's probably the best UFO photo to date.

It looks like someone hung something in front of the camera and it just took a snap shot of it lol.

That will be fine, I guess we all can wait one day.

You don't happen to have any other stuff from your father that could be related to this?

No, I really don't have anything else. Dad wasn't really into ufo's or anything like that so I just assume it was a photo someone he knew from his childhood (dad grew up in the Uniontown area of Pennsylvania) who took it and sent it to him because he thought it was cool.

I have to say, the saucer in this photo has a particular feature which resembles the saucer I saw as a child. My personal sighting was in the same area in roughly the same time frame. I wrote about my sighting on ATS a couple years ago.

Can you be more specific about where your father grew up please? My sighting was in a small town named Penncraft which is about 10 miles west of Uniontown.

Hi, I don't know the area well, but my grandfather was a coal miner and stone mason who travelled around a great deal when my dad was young. I know they settled in the area near Uniontown...in a small town called Brownsville.

DrCosma I was just getting ready to say the pictured UFO looks exactly like the one out of the Flight of the Navigator movie; however, the movie came out in 1986 - I was a huge fan of it as a kid.. the story just took place in the late 70's, and actually involved missing time / time travel as well. Apparently there's also a remake of the movie coming out pretty soon.

www.imdb.com...

www.comingsoon.net...

I also live in Pennsylvania, and have hiked in the Allegheny a couple times as a teen, there's a bunch of weird UFO stories around PA if you look for them like Kecksburg for example.

ufocasebook.com...

As far as the pic goes it doesn't really make any difference if it's the real thing or not.
