I've made this recommendation before a Beretta Cx4 Storm 9mm,40cal,45acp can be made to shoot lefty or righty, light ergonomic takes any Beretta magazine, can have scope or laser light, and most importantly it is not gas operated

Cx4

Another vote for the Ruger 10/22.

There is a ton of aftermarket kit available for anyone to live out their Call of Duty fantasies down at the local gravel quarry with your Bro's...

Best of all, the ammo is cheap enough that you can afford to practice!

General prices on .22 LR ammunition

The first step is to get crystal clear on the mission for this rifle.. Is
It for taking game after the SHTF? Is it for , errr, serious social situations?

What is the mission?

I'm just looking for a rifle that will do whatever i need it to do. whether it be hunting, or shooting targets. Something with multiple purpose's.

I make the same recommendation in every rifle thread..
Mosin Nagant. Cheap, accurate, and powerful.

Plus this guy: en.wikipedia.org...
Killed like 500 dudes with one (using just the iron sights) haha.

P.S. When I say cheap, I'm talking 80 bucks for an unfinished one.

Thank you.

There is always one in every gun thread that tries to de-rail the entire topic of conversation with anti gun beliefs.

On topic I would reccomend a Dragunov.

Edit: sounds to me like you would love a 30-30 lever action rifle. Maybe a Winchester.

I seem to remember some clown in America went crazy with a tank he stole before the cops shot him dead!
Each to their own I suppose and I used to enjoy firing a pump action shotgun many years ago and also the many guns I fired when I was in the British Army, but if anyone here in the uk had so many guns in their possession they would get the jail and the key would be thrown away.
I guess if you are brought up in a country that has guns everywhere it is the norm to use them all the time.
Just be careful where you shoot and don't be an asshole killing just for the sake of it and call it sport.
Is it legal to actually have a gun showing where everyone can see it when the person is walking down the street and what if they went into a store etc? Or does it have to be concealed all the time?

Depends on the place. I live in a smaller city, on very rare occasions I will see people in the gas station with a gun on their hip. Have to have a concealed carriers license etc. There are probably a lot more people that are considerate and carry them in a holster in their jackets so they don't make everyone nervous and even more people that just leave them in their car.

we can but its expensive. $2 a round! we have to use "Special ammunition" using the rental rifle.

It sounds like the range is making approximately $1 a round on that "special ammunition"......

I used to wonder about that and I guess it would make muggers etc think twice before they thought of attacking someone if they saw it. Don't really know if I would carry one though but if I was out with my family in a rough neighbourhood it would make sense.
Thanks for the input though.

Test fire a 22-250. Scope is a must.
You will be amazed, and want nothing else.
A very loud gun, you need constant ear protection, even being 10ft away from someone else shooting at the range.
Ammo is relatively cheap at about .80 per round.

Yep. I have considered getting my concealed carriers license for road trips that take me through rough areas, but I probably wouldn't carry it on my person (unless I was getting out in said areas.. though I probably just wouldn't get out. I've gotten lost and driven through some scary neighborhoods). As for where I live, I really wouldn't see the need, and it would probably just cause cops to be on edge when I notified them. I'd probably be more likely to be shot after having to tell some rookie I had a licensed concealed weapon. So I would probably not carry it when I am home.

In my 25 years of life, I can probably count the number of times I have seen a person (that wasn't law enforcement) openly carrying in public on one hand. So it isn't like a lot of people think. Also we aren't completely desensitized to that. When someone has one on their hip I would say it's the first thing people notice and ask themselves why they have a gun. It's honestly a little unnerving and kind of annoying. It's not the old west and for the most part all of the intimidation is thrown at unarmed people so I personally think it's a little disrespectful not to wear it out of sight. The number of people carrying in their car is probably a lot though.

Ruger 556E, It is pricey but very comfortable, add collapsible stock good for close quarters & long range.

Interesting what you said there as I am curious about them. At least in your own home you have comfort of knowing that you can legally defend you and your family if someone broke in.
Here, if we kick the crap or do worse to a burglar, we are charged and thrown into jail before they decide what to do. Then, the person who was attacked has the brass neck to charge the homeowner with assault!
I know for a fact I wouldn't stop until they were in hospital if they tried to break into either my home or car.
It's a good subject for a debate on guns if they are used sensibly but as you know, the butters who go into schools etc and murder for the sake of it will always be there, but thankfully they are few and far between.

.. hmmm well if you are not that happy with your AK . . I would suggest an AR-15 . . they generally come as a 5.56 (223) but you can buy them in several different calibers including 7.62x39 (same as an AK) or change them to a different caliber by just switching the uppers (remove to pins) and replace with an upper in the caliber of your liking . .. if I were you I would look into a AR chambered in 300 black out .. it is a new round that is the same diameter as your AK ammo (308) but a lil shorter . . They have been selling like hotcakes at the gun shop I help out at .. the price of ammo for them is around $1 per round so it's not too bad . .. they have really good knock down power and are good up to about 300 yards . . ... but as someone else said on here before .. the main thing is that the gun feels good to you .. so whatever you do please go to a local shop and feel some out, if the shop is worth a poop they should be able to answer any questions you might have about them as well . . so yeah that's my recommendation for an "all around" rifle .. an AR15 chambered in 300 blackout .. you should be able to hunt about anything with it, still takes standard AR mags, reasonably priced ammo, would be even better than a 5.56 for self defense .. just my 2 cents

oh yeah and like a lot of others have already said .. you gotta own a Ruger 10/22 . . they are indestructible, fun to shoot, and cheap to shoot . . I just wouldn't want one for my self defense weapon
