Why does everyone insist the Russians will become involved? They do not need Iran for oil, or anything else for that matter. Russia has sat out, what 5 Israeli/Arab wars? That doesn't count the War of Attrition air battles fought against the IAF, when Russian MiGs were station in Egypt, as the Russians sat on the sidelines for the main war 2 years later in '73.

Russia has threatened to intervene, but they have a lot of trouble moving their troops, and can barely manage any naval deployments. Also, if the Russians were so intent on helping the Iranians, why are they still holding up the delivery of the S-300 SAM system?

Look, realistically, Israel does not have the manpower to invade Iran, and the US does not have the heart or good enough reason for it after the last 10 years in the sandbox. So, Israel will take out the Iranian plants and facilities in a quick airstrike, and possibly will try to eliminate Iran's airforce. They are entirely capable of doing this, and Iran is entirely incapable of defending against it. The only obstacle in Israel's way is the court of international opinion. They cannot afford to isolate themselves further. But on the military side of the equation, it is no contest, and I doubt Russia will risk everything by getting involved on a large scale.

I bet it wasn't two months after Russia announced that they were not going to deliver the S-300 to Iran that they started talking about delivering it to Syria. They're still talking about supplying it to Syria as of last month. My understanding is that they've been training Iranians and Syrians on how to use it this whole time (in Romania). Russia will use the excuse that they're just trying to protect their naval base in the port of Tartus.

Iran's aim is to start WWIII and draw the infidel powers into nuking each other and Israel into destroying the Sunni Arab armies

. Russia's and China's intention is to enable Iran (and others) to make mega terror attacks against the West in order to collapse it.

All depends on what Israel does - we have a three way Mexican standoff going on.

They Israel have faced worse before and won.

I would consider a no win situation for either Iran or Israel.

On Israels side you have the US, UK, Most of the European States who would probably back them up, by sending military equipment, resources etc. On Iran's side you have Iran backed by Russia and China. Would be one big mess that is for sure.

The out at sea you would have Russian/Chinese Naval and Air Unit v US, NATO, Naval and Air units.

It will end Humanity as we know it. As an Australian we have been the longest military partner with the US and UK, but hell if we should support Israel when they keep egging Iran on for a bull crap reason. Libya was bull crap and Iraq and Afghanistan was bull crap our soldiers die for nothing. All to suit the Bankers and the military industrial complex. We can stop this though no one fight if they try to make a conscription just got to jail instead. Its different if Chinese and Russian forces are on your door steps but to suit the powers at be, that be only a few hundred people why should millions die in the cause possibly billions if it ends up a nuclear war. The pleideans stepped in a few times already and shot US missiles down which were on its way to Iran. Lets hope the Benevolents step in to avert this disaster. Dont rely on them alone we can change our own destiny as well.

Iran will not sit back, watch threats

www.presstv.com...

“Recent remarks by the Leader [of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] mean a change in the Iranian nation's defense strategy,” Iran's Armed Forces Deputy Chief of Staff Brigadier General Mohammad Baqeri said on Tuesday.

“If threats continue, the Iranian nation's attitude will be reconsidered,” Mehr News Agency quoted Baqeri as saying.

If the brunt of the Israeli attack is carried out by the Air Force, Iran could just simply start using those cute little double-digit SAMs that they purchased from Russia to take a lot of very expensive Israeli jets down. Just add to that a few proxy wars aimed against Israel and you've got yourself a screwed up Middle East in complete chaos.

The deciding factor in the war that is coming will IMO be the actions of the superpowers in the region. Who will support who? I think it would be a likely reason for a possible global thermonuclear war If superpowers like the USA/China and Russia interfere.

In other words, pray that this war will be averted or else the likelihood of us having a good future will decrease dramatically.

Go look up Operation Mole Cricket 19. The Israeli's wrote the book on taking out air defenses. So much so, that they may have hastened the end of the cold war, because the russians realized their SAMs could not match up to the pointy end of a HARM.

Not trying to bust your balls here, but how do you intend to get in range (Around 100KM/60Mi) to fire those Mach 2 HARM missiles when at 300-200KM you already got a Mach 9 SAM on your tailpipe giving you less than a minute to think of something to beat the odds and survive? These SAMS are a very big threat to even F-22 Raptors and that is not to be taken lightly. It's safe to say that Israeli F-15's who are inferior to the F-22 Raptor in every combat-relevant way, will be toast long before even being able to fire any HARM missiles.

You will need a superpower with a very big and advanced air force and sufficient Force-Projection capabilities like the USA to win against Iran (By firing lots and lots of cruise missiles)- A country that has invested countless billions in Air-defence to making sure that whoever penetrates their airspace, will have to pay a very hefty price for doing so.

Read up on the new generation Russian SAM systems (Also known as Double-Digit SAMs) and educate yourself.

Hmmm , after Israel threatening them over and over again?

Are you a Taliban spy?

I guess you forgot the things Iran has said WAY before Israel threatened to attack them because of their nuclear facility.

Come back to reality and get your head out of where the sun doesnt shine.

Israel needs to grow some balls and get this over with. The longer they wait the longer the Hezzies have time to establish in the Gaza strip as well as other areas around Israel. Making the two to three front war a lot harder.

Theater SAMs tend to be connected to external radar platforms too, making them less vulnerable to radiation-seeking missiles that target the radar and not the actual SAM platform.

Yup. That's also why some countries place older legacy SAM systems very close to their borders (With the SAMs own Radar deactivated to evade detection) and their Radar Installations a little further into the country.
That way, when the Radar Installation picks up a bandit, it relays the data to the SAM who is much closer to the threat and the SAM waits until the threat is so close to the SAM system, that the missile launch will destroy the threat only seconds after launch.
When the target is close enough to the legacy SAM, the SAM operator turns on his own radar to gets a lock on the airplane (Only then the aircrew know that they are being targeted/painted) and fires away one or multiple missiles.

This just points out how even older SAMs can still be a very big threat to even the most advanced 4-4.5th gen fighters if used correctly. Let alone the new generation SAM systems who have become extremely advanced anti-air systems.

So.............................do you suppose an Israeli EMP attack would take out their missile defences?

Is this the twilight zone?

Perhaps you shoulda reread the title of the thread and rethink your statement.

I think the critical Command&Control sites are protected from EMP's but even if they weren't, doing something like that would require a high-yield nuclear explosion in the Atmosphere... I don't think the dozens of countries affected (Including Russia) would be very happy about that..

The Jericho III ICBM equipped with a nuclear warhead provides Israel with a powerful deterrent against a nuclear Iran. It gives Israel a credible Electronic Magnetic Pulse (EMP) capability to loft a low kiloton yield warhead to an apogee over Iran that upon detonation would destroy the country’s industrial infrastructure, frying motherboards of hundreds of thousands of computers, disabling telecommunications, transportation and industrial systems. According to veteran Iran watcher, Ken Timmerman, President and CEO of the Foundation for Democracy in Iran, that possibility was confirmed by ex-CIA case officer Chet Nagle at a Capitol Hill EMPact America press conference in Washington, DC on Tuesday, the day before the Jericho III test was announced.

If they kept this low enough to restrict the area affected - they could knock out the nuke facilities and whatever else they needed without totally trashing the country.

They want to but wont.
They could have done so ages back, but they haven't.
Because they know exactly what they've got to lose in case their adventure does not go as planned.
