Yeh whether its a stone or a flame , killing in the name of religion is wrong , because apparently only god can judge you , then why do we have religious people judging others and putting them to death!

Religion has been put in place by someone or something in order to keep our species in the stone age so to speak !

And how would that explain the fact that nearly every single society known to us since the dawn of civilization and before has practised religion of one sort or another?

However, I do agree that religion tends to be exploited by elites to control and manipulate the masses.

Difference being though, there hasn't been a christian stonning or witch burning in a modern western country for 100's of years.

There's been regular stonnings and burnnings in islamic countries every day for the last 1000 years, right upto yesterday..!!!

You say christians are just as guilty of these things based on what is in the bible and events from centuries ago, but the fact is, we abolished these practices centuries ago and nobody today is guilty of any such thing..!!

It is hard to say Allah is lucifer when Allah's translation is God and is written to be the same god as the christians and jews... the only difference is that where we were able to get out of the inquisition period and many muslim countries are still there.. we have been killing "witches" for centuries saying god said to do this. and the witch hunts continued to the 20th century (on occasion). i am not saying that allah isn't or is the devil but i cant say and completely believe that all religions in this world hasn't been touch by both the malevolent and benevolent (if such beings truly exist) i think it is more likely that people who wanted power developed rules to live by and said god told them these "truths"

Id say your wrong , despite america claiming not to be a country based on religion it is in fact steeped in christian belief , from the money they print to the courthouses they sentence people in !
in so doing this , they also execute people in the name of god , when they are given the death sentence!

They just do it in a more humane way now , instead of stoning , hanging or burning , they use lethal injection.
However with budget cuts they may just go back to stoning hanging and burning since the economy is on a down turn.

Whilst Africe is considered third world , they still have modern civilisation and in certain places in Africa people have been burned to death by religious fanatics .
The westborough baptist church are just one step away from killing gays in the a name of god, if it was given the go ahead by a state in the US they would do it regardless of the fact they are killing innocent people.

The point being if you are religious then only god can judge you , no other human can , and when you die your are judged then and then only. Therefore you shouldnt be stoned or burned or given lethal injection.

If it were up to me , all religion would be removed from earth , textbooks and all , so that in the future humans can become spiritual beings and not religious slaves !
Our species has undeniably been held back by how many thousands of years because of religious conflict , how much has been destroyed and how much could have been achieved in the absence of religion.

So disturbing. It's hard to believe this type of thing is still happening in our world. There is nothing that anyone can do that justifies this type of punishment. How can others treat eachother like this? There is so much hate in our world it makes me sick to my stomach.

Yes, that's true...the spirituality of Native Americans etc is a beautiful thing and something to be admired but don't forget, the romantic image of the 'noble savage' is in fact something of a myth and hardly representative at all.
Not everything was harmony and bliss before the advent of White Europeans.
There was lots of fighting between tribes and some particularly cruel and barbaric acts practised by some tribes, when judged by current 'Western' morals and standards.
Some punishments enacted by Native Americans far outstrips anything done by both Christians and Muslims for barbarity.

The Andean Empire of The Incas used religion as a cohesive force within the empire and they adopted and adapted the Gods of conquered nations to ease integration into the Inca Empire - a practice common in empire building.
Part of the Inca religion involved child and slave sacrifice.

In both South America and iin particular Mesoamerica human sacrifice had been widespread for millenia.
The Olmecs, Maya and Aztecs all practticed it on a large scale.

Religion played the integral part of life in all these societies and dominated almost every aspect of a person's life, probably even more so than Islam seeks to.

The Aztecs in particular took human sacrifice to new levels.
Each sacrifice was meticulously planned and the victims, who varied from slaves to warriors, took part in various rituals prior to having their beating heart ripped out.
It is believed that up to 80,000 people were sacrificed in one four day festival in Tenochtitlan.

Yes, these were a spiritual people with an affinity for and belonging to their environment etc that we have long since lost....but they were also capable of acts of appalling brutality and barbarism and religious dogma and creed was at times at least as part of their lives as it is in some religions today.

And as always, religion was used to control and manipulate the masses.

Friend, I think you need to read something I wrote yesterday. Right HERE.

There's no need to quote Leviticus or Deuteronomy to realize the Barbaric Christianity (i.e., much of the Old Testament) is as grim as Islam.

The big difference, though, is that the auto-da-fe and the other hallmarks of the Holy Inquisition are centuries past; the sickness of shari'a is with us still, backed up not by crazies with swords and pikes but by crazies with sophisticated weapons, including hijacked airplanes and (in at least one case) nuclear bombs.

Certainly, we have the garden variety of religions sickos running around; but the Phelpses, disgusting as they are, do not fly airplanes into buildings nor to they decapitate people on YouTube.

And the danger we face from the Islamists is frighteningly compounded.

The Islamists, despite their endemic wickedness, are smarter than the West in two very important ways: first, they will use the hallmarks of a democratic culture for their own benefit by electing their own crazies, as we can see in some UK boroughs and Parisian suburbs, and then use their democratically chosen power to change the laws to subvert and destroy the very culture that got them there in the first place.

But their second weapon is much more insidious and, in the long run, infinitely more dangerous to civilization: The islamists know that their barbaric activities cannot co-exist with the legal and moral culture of what we usually call the West (but including places like Australia, Japan, South Korea, etc). But if not -- even if you are one of those apologists who say "...well, I don't agree with some of the more brutal things, but you have to understand that it is their culture... ", then you are aiding and abetting them in their drive for a poisonous world theocracy and you are the enemy.

The bottom line is that they want, ultimately, to destroy us all and will stop at nothing to meet their goal.

We must realize that and, if we expect our culture to survive, destroy them first..

Anybody who would condone stoning a human being - or even using pain as punishment for that matter is a complete dirt bag.

We should have a designated part of the UN whose job it is to specifically go after these disgusting animals who we see in internet videos like this.
Legalize drugs and use the resources left over from that to start it up.
Once caught, we could have them rot away in the cells previously occupied by drug offenders. They would then have to watch their videos all day on repeat until they died.
We could have a special jail for those involved with crimes against humanity, and one for those posting videos about animals.
Just redirect troops from Iraq and Pakistan and spread them out to go catch these scumbags in the videos we see on the internet.

We could pull them out of their cells on holidays and stuff to tease them and ask them ridiculous questions with no real answers. Then after a half hour, send them back to cells. Then these videos would be posted as updates to the original videos that landed that scumbags in "internet video prison"

Why so much religous intolerance coming from an advanced west. Each unto their own. Everybody has the right to believe what they will. Attacking ones faith is no different to attacking an individual personally and hurting their feelings. The objective of the thread has been achieved (division) and the result is an ugly mud slinging match and many of you have been played. This world is not a better place having many peoples feelings hurt.

The OP originally stated the case of Atefeh Rajabi Sahaaleh "2004". This was an unfortunate young lady who was the victim of a corrupt system where her judge and juror was one of the people that had violated her. She was unfortunately executed by hanging. The video goes on to show a number of clips put together with powerful imagery with a heart moving song. At one point in the video Atefeh is also portrayed by curvey western looking beauty in a white dress to increase the impact to the western mind. We are shown images of stoning and a hanging to tell you where the fault lies. Innocent people are persecuted daily in all walks of life as I believe are people in this community also. Guilt by association.
