Has Area 51 lost its thrill? Its mystery?

There was a lot of "hub bub" surrounding Area 51 in 1989 when George Knapp interviewed Bob Lazar. We've learned more about the highly-secured base when the details of projects Have Blue and Senior Trend and the F-117 were released. Satellite imagery gave us an indepth look into Area 51's structures, buildings, and hangars. More recently, former Area 51 employees from the era of Projects Aquatone and Oxcart have provided interesting insight into Area 51 activities from the 1950s and 1960s. For those of us who grew up in the latter half of the Cold War, these details provide a window for us to peer into.

We now know Area 51/Detachment 3 changed hands from CIA to the USAF. We know the most advanced top secret classified aircraft were tested and operated out of the base. We know the US "acquired" Soviet aircraft during the 1980's, which resulted in the Navy's Top Gun program. We know today's drones were probably developed and tested at Area 51. We suspect that Area 51 has been tasked with researching a variety of stealth technologies, missile technologies, and various "other" military projects.

These days I find myself less interested in UFO rumors surrounding the base and more interested in all the stories the former employers are able to release because of classified programs now in the open. Employees like T.D. Barnes and the like gave us a glimpse into the security procedures and atmosphere of Area 51 for ages ago. Unfortunately, we won't know what the climate of Area 51 is today until years and years from now.

So what do you think? Do you feel the same way? Has Area 51 lost a little of its mystery?

I think the real truth about Area 51...has been distorted by so much disinformation....that yes....I think it has lost some of it's appeal.

Also...I think that the location for Area 51 is different from where it originally was...by that I mean...whatever they were doing there in the first place...they are doing now at many other places.

My brother lives in Pittsburgh! PA has much better gun laws than NY. PA rules...its the only state that I've driven through where stores advertise, "Fireworks, Ninja Swords, Stun Guns, and Knives!"

I love PA!

Back on topic...

Area 51 is still a place where secret tests are conducted due to its extreme isolation. You can't really find a place similar to Groom Lake anywhere in the US. It is the most private area with such a large, flat, bottom lake bed.
