Experiencing violent dreams lately

After my last dream this night I decided to make this topic because I think it might prove helpful and therapeutic for me. Of course dreams happen all the time, often we are not aware of them. From time to time I've had lucid dreams, but they were 90% absurd, lovely or silly. Nothing that really shook me when I woke up.
This all changed around the start of September. The dreams have become violent and often I would wake up, feeling blasted back into reality, soaking wet and rather traumatized from what I had just experienced.

Before I continue explaining these dreams:
* I'm 31 years old (and counting
)
* I've never been violent myself, I don't condone it, I've never even been in a fight.

It all started with a rather absurd and non-violent dream, but somehow it's the most vivid until this day.
I was sitting in a house, the outside views were resembling the places I have lived in, totalling four. I'm looking through the window and spot a helicopter flying over. I run to the back and as I watch it fly away, the tail starts smoking. It turns around and starts crashing my way. Finally it drops right in front of my window. In an instant people come check the wreck. They pick it up together and drag it onto the street. As I run outside there's already a crane ready to lift it. But not before a smiling woman and an "alien being" holding each other before the wreck get photographed by people. You know, like politicians would do. I've seen this "alien" before but can't remember from where. My best guess is a movie or a video game I've played while I was younger. But with an albino skin. There was a sense of triumph in that last scene. I then woke up, first thing that came in mind was WTF?
Well, nothing spectacular here besides the absurdity of it and the fact it has kept me thinking for so long. Moving on!

The first violent dream was a few months ago. I was running for my live in the middle of nowhere. Some forest with grasslands is the best way to explain the scenery. I hear shooting all the time, I hear people scream, getting shot. I pass several corpses, I can still see their open wounds, guts, blood, etc. I keep running, afraid as hell. I jump over a little fence like an athletic. Finally I see civilization in the distance and run to it. I wake up instantly soaking wet and scared.

The second one I can't recall so well. But I was with a friend from school, we were holding guns running around and shooting people in cold blood. I wake up soaking wet and totally emotionless with a feeling of disorientation.

My dream last night is also leaving my mind rapidly. But I remember that this time I had a big knife. I sprinted to a woman on the street holding the knife pointing forward and planted it with all my force in her stomach, again in cold blood. I also remember throwing the knife in a spinning motion right into the chest of another woman. I woke up without any emotion, it was 4:30 am and couldn't get back to sleep...

So that's about it... I'm feeling rather empty, sad and gutted after writing this all down. What the hell is going on with me? I'm a loving person! I'm that guy who jokes around all the time! But lately I feel depressed also... Anyway, I shouldn't be dreaming this kind of stuff! I'm hoping on your thoughts, insides, maybe explanations... Feel free to share. I just did and that doesn't happen often... But I really needed to write this down, it's getting to me.

do you know alps ? i recommend a mythological and theologic way of understanding, what is happening to you.

Alb, Alp

The word is alf of the Anglo-Saxon and Low German, derived eleven, so says the mythical elves originally Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse tradition.
Under the name of Alb in the folk beliefs have very different ideas together, which are reflected in the variety of regional names.
From the first friendly form developed early the idea of a malicious, oppressive system, these kind of beings are known all around the world.
The Alb is a nocturnal spirit pressure that produces the so-called alptraum (nightmare). He lies down on the sleeper's chest and pushes him almost to suffocation.

(its google translated.)

Hi OP you're not the only one experiencing this. I actually had a weird nightmare last night, and I rarely get them. A thread was started this past weekend on strong energies people have been experiencing. Lots of interesting conversation.

Here is the link if you're interested.

Sounds like you're experiencing explosions of anger. Do you feel like your hopes and dreams have been dashed more than once? Maybe in your first dream you experience wreckage, but was still able to hold onto hope. Maybe you're not feeling hopeful any longer and it's just left you filled with fear and anger.

Thanks for sharing that. I never heard of it before. I'll certainly check it out for myself because that google translate is, as always, rather cryptic

I had one where I was shooting Zombies...funny when we focus on a dream they tend to re-occur. And I had been watching too many things with Zombies as a theme no big surprise there!

But even Freud said sometimes a cigar is just a cigar...

So cheer up. Think about the games you have been playing (any 1st person shooters or violence in them?) the movies and media you have been watching (most are too violent for my tastes these days). Find strength in prayer if you need to or in friends. We can be violent by nature if we need to be but violence for the sake of violence makes no sense and is most likely a fear.

Nightmare Dreams are about our fears, you stated you are loving person so violence is your fear. Face this fear embrace it and know you are not a violent person and do loving things and it will pass.

I'll read up into that thread, seems very interesting because I also had a weird moment last Friday as I got overflooded with impulses from outside to the point I felt stripped of all my energy.

Very interesting you mention this. I'm indeed currently angry about all the wasted talent and missed opportunities and the lack of support from my parents when I was a kid... But are dreams full of bloodshed not a bit over the top as explosions of anger?

I have had some of my most horrible dreams this year. Last night I looked at my clock 11:11 ( no stranger to that number) been seeing it every single day without fail for 20 years and im only 30, I was writing a song and when I wrapped it up to go to bed the clock was on 1:11.

I had a very violent realistic dream when I awoke 5:11.

I dont care who doesn't believe cause my family has seen it for themselves and they are freaked out by it not me, I keep telling them it's nothing, but im starting to wonder now.

My opinion is that as long as you're releasing some of that anger in your dreams, it will help you to cope in real life. However, you may want to find someone you can talk to keep these from bottling up and eventually exploding in real life.

Thank you so much, that reply really moved me

Funny thing is I played some violent games when I was young. I never dreamed of it except one time, when I was top of the world playing Unreal Tournament in hardcore instagib mode (instagib means one shot, one kill, those were skills back in the day kids! lol) I had a lucid dream of me jumping around like a monkey as I would in the game, launching beams at everyone in a deathmatch game. Loool so funny I suddenly remember this

But since a long time ago I refuse to occupy myself with anything violent. I play the occasional race/strategy/rpg/manager game, so nothing cruel. I refuse to watch "action movies" and I don't look at clips on the internet where they show for example the dead Ghadaffi or the Chinese kid that got run over and abandoned by everyone passing it... So there's no recent violent imagery to be processed by my brain at night...

I wish you peace also

Wow, you must feel like being haunted I guess... Funny you mention this because last week I had several follow up days where I woke up at exactly x:00 hours before my alarm went off. One day it was 7:00, the other 9:00 and then 6:00. Last Saturday, sleeping longer, I woke up at exactly 11:00. Strange... But not as spectacular as your experience. Do you have any clue as of why this happens to you? Did you do some research or investigation into it?

Well, I posted it here for a reason... I can't think of a single friend at the moment who would listen with full interest and without judgement to this kind of story... A bit of a sad conclusion but it's an honest one... I'm baffled by my own insight at the moment. Maybe some change in the friendsdepartement would do me some good also...

So sorry to hear that. I'm guessing you don't have any siblings that you're close to either that might have shared in the "lack of support from my parents" department?

Thats weird too, wanna hear something really weird that I have NEVER spoke of. After Katrina I was cutting a tree into chunks to clear it from the road.

As I put the pieces on the side I seen 2 miniature cue balls, they both had 11's on them, now I know most rolls their eyes but I know its true, how do you explain that? How?

And yes indeed this number haunts me every single day, but it doesn't haunt my soul enough to get fanatical about because if indeed there is something behind I will find out soon enough.

I know how you are feeling, I did post in the other dream forum. I have been experiencing terrifying, violent dreams for 2 years now. I have become withdrawn and frightful of everything. I wake up in night terrors screaming or my husband has to wake me out of it. Who knows if it's all in my subconcious or some worldwide "morphic field". I wish you luck, I hope we both get answers soon, being this weekly sometimes daily event it is exhausting.

I don't even bother anymore. I broke with my father 8 years ago and none of my friends here can understand it nor do they condone it. I have my reasons built up by trauma. Nobody understands that except for one special person, I think I'll call her tomorrow
We have less contact since I moved away further and I do miss her.

Sounds like a great reason and a good time to reconnect!

Many blessings to you!

A while ago I was reading up on numerology because 11/11/11 is such a special date... Please read this page I just found and tell me what you, in your own experience as a human being, think about it...

I hope so too! It is indeed exhausting but I'm already glad I posted this because I'm getting some good replies which make me think in other directions and give me some clues as how to deal with this
