OK, thanks. There are a lot of unknowns, as yet.....more will be revealed as it gets close. There are several radar telescopes tracking since the 6th November (lost the source for that, read it and closed the Web page).

Yeah, a boat is large, but has a lot of empty space, so masses less than a solid hunk of rock. What is not known, though, is the type of rock this asteroid is made of.

Here's a calculator, and has four default settings for density parameters:

1,000 kg/m^3 for ice
1,500 kg/m^3 for porous rock
3,000 kg/m^3 for dense rock
8,000 kg/m^3 for iron

I read that its relative velocity is 13 km/sec....the above calculator suggests round about 17 km/sec as typical for asteroids, so in the ballpark.

So...at 400 meters diameter (200 radius) I get roughly (rounded up and down) about 33 to 34 million cubic meters as a result for total volume, presuming it is spherical. (If elongated, that number can vary greatly).

So, mass matters....and matter has mass....( )....but many variables are still open to conjecture, including how much it would break apart on entry (hypothetical, now...since this one won't hit Earth this time 'round).

I think at the end of this we need a Globally funded body to monitor NEO's we are attempting global cooperation on climate change so why not this? Surely from past events this is sensible..

ahh there is a "body" to monitor NEO's it's called NASA and JPL and they say were fine and there is not going to be an impact from YU55 on November 8th, 9th or 10th ahh what the use.

I think you are right.. people are labelled 'fear mongers' but the intention is never such.. it is just genuine concern. We are all anonymous on here.. I think we need to look at our governments who have eroded our faith.. false wars etc.. it would be nice for people to able to just trust what we are told.. but historically this has faith has been misplaced.

Yes some things should be central.. That is not a NWO.. A New World Order that we are about to see, relies upon exterminating the old world order..

Apparently, the heads of many nations including Obama are in Hawaii for a conference. Saw in the San Fran Chronicle....don't know how it could be verified.

Yeah, I did some calculations based on available information in an earlier post (here) for all the "OMG! OMG! ELE! ELE!" crowd, just to calm some nerves, lol.

In a way, it's a shame it is just going to fly by. I would have liked to have seen it strike the facing side of the moon, especially on the outer visible edge.....what an impressive sight it might have been, especially through my scope, not to mention the valuable information it would have given us about impacts.

Also, you once told me that you too had this gut feeling, only you now ignore it. That is entirely your choice and, up until now, I wasn't going to bash your convictions, but now I will.

Why do you choose to ignore it? Is it because it has you so confused that you'd rather ignore it, or is it because you're too frustrated with all these non-events to keep generating the energy to investigate each inkling you get?
Or are you too worried there will come a day where you cannot differ between paranoid delusion and intuition? Or are you just happy to ignore your intuition because it is convenient?

I don't ignore my basic warning systems. It's saved me in fights, in everyday situations and in life in general. It helps me discern what my eyes have seen but do not reveal. It helps me decipher what my ears have heard yet my 'common-sense' tells me can't be possible, yet it ends up being. You know 9/11, Libya, JFK Assassination and all the other things that we know are really happening but common-sense tells us otherwise.

Not listening to my intuition is ignorance. Reading, absorbing and discerning a 'theory' is not.
