Disturbing FEMA announcement, Nov. 9th, 2011, and.....

Late last night (4-Nov) the cable channel I was watching ran a PSA explaining that it would be a test "a little over three minutes."

It explained it would be a test and it was important to make sure others knew in advance that it was just a test so as not to cause unnecessary alarm.

Too late, huh?


Living in tornado country, I remember the sirens-- but have not heard one in at least a decade, even when a tornado has been on the ground, nearby. Since high winds almost always knock out my electrical service, my laptop and wireless dial-up is my only connection to the outside world.

If I am asleep-- I have no warning of anything, anymore. In fact, two or three years ago, I woke to hear horizontal hail hitting my windows. I rolled off my bed to the center of the room just as the wall of windows gave up their fight against the wind and hail. All 48 panes of glass of that wall of casement windows were smashed, and trees and tree limbs cracking and falling all over, my power went out before I even finished getting dressed.

So, what good is the system that is total dependent upon electrical power and the person actually watching the TV or listening to a radio?

You're exactly right. And it's the first time that it's all tripped automatically. Until present, broadcasters had to locally do the test, after an order was issued do to so. It's EAS now, but it used to be EBS, Emergency Broadcst System.

It is necessary to have these drills, like other posters said, if they do not train and simulate scenarios imagine how hectic it would be during the real deal. I do agree that the exercise on 9-11 is suspect, but not ALL drills are going to be so. My concern is what kind of disaster would be so severe that the President needs everyones attention at the same time. Yellowstone? Planets X, Y, or Zee? Radiation poisening from a busted reactor? Obama finding that Change he lost in the couch? Biggie Smalls, Tupac, Elvis, Bin Laden and Ghaddafi caught on camera playing Old Maid outside a seafood joint called Harry Clams? Disclosure? Martial Law due to OWS Movement? Announcement of War with Iran? It gives me a weird feeling in my gut, and I know alot of you serious ATSers feel the wind of change. I put my money on The End of the Dollar Bill. Currency around the world is about to become worthless. Be prepared to get paid in Rupees.

Either you screw us on the 11/9 or on the 11/11. Not both the days!!!

You know the weird thing is in many of the movies that depict the earth being hit by a astroid or alien invasion etc... they always start with the presidential address to the nation. I'm not sure if anything will come of this but it does seem very strange that this is the firs time this has ever occured. As several other posters have stated it does give an wierd feeling in the pit of the stomach. And the fact that they have had to ammend the test several times with the length and which time zone they use as a refrence is very strange.

It's not clear whether the POTUS is going to be conducting the test. Seems more like a cut and dry test.

But, I'm am concerned about the amount of competency of the people conducting the test, and backlash from that. How many people will be uninformed about the nationwide EAS test? Will it cause panic? Not nationwide, I'm sure, but it could be unsettling for some.

Well, overall, it's a good way to spend taxpayers dollars, as that is what they do best, aye?

I really dont know why some of us are getting all worked up about this.

About the HAST time IMO ..
1. Some do not use daylight saving time .. ( activating Sunday November 6th 2011 ).
2. Its reasonable to announce in the HAST time because its 3 days after daylight saving time AND closest to the Earliest time of the broadcast..( why say EST or Virgin Island time and have the whole country count backwards ?).

About the 3 min and 30 second broadcast now edited for 30 seconds IMO..
1. Pre Testing IMO .. Im sure the test was concluded to work for the most part if not completely already.
2. Public opinion.

It said the test would be for 3 minutes.

Nov. 9 - Nov 12 should be interesting.

Friday is Veteran's Day and I'm sure much of the military will have 96 hours of leave. Any strike against America on that day should be interesting.

I read in my local paper ( Lafayette Journal and Courier ) a article about the suns solar flare that was HUGE and was talking about how are earth will be in direct path of the side on the sun the flair was on on a very strange date.. Yup you guessed it .. November 9th 2011 I am going to copy and past the article but also place the link here so you can see for yourself's.. I do believe that this is going to be more than just a test on the 9th, Our government and people of power do NOT want to warn us a head of time because there would be complete panic and if they warned us yrs, months or even wks, people would have quit their jobs, stacked pile food and emergency supplies and there would be nothing left to buy so then people would start stealing what they need from otehrs or if not have the money to buy the supplies needed to get by for a few months they would just rob the stores and or the public, it would be complete panic situation, then say perhaps, the scientific cordinates were all wrong and they government gave out false flags , then my friends it would even be worse of a situation, I think that the government and the news media has given out just a weeeeeeeeee little bit of info thinking that maybe some people will take heed and believe that this isnt really going to be a test and those will be the more than likely be ready for if and when anything happens on or after the 9th.. Scientists at the federal Space Weather Prediction Center say that area is the most active part of the sun since 2005. It has dozens of sunspots, including one that is the size of 17 Earths. Sunspots are kinks or knots in the sun's magnetic field.

"It's beautiful," said forecaster Jess Whittington. "It's still growing. The size is what blows me away."

Thursday's flare wasn't aimed at Earth. However, this active region is now slowly turning toward Earth, and scientists say it will be directly facing Earth in about five days.

That storm region will only harm Earth if it shoots off flares and they hit our planet, which doesn't always happen with stormy areas, said prediction center space scientist Joe Kunches.

But that region will be facing Earth for about two weeks as it rotates, Kunches said.

For the past several years, the sun has been at a quiet end of its cycle and only recently has gotten more active. Solar cycles go in 11-year period. This cycle has had fewer storms than usual for this time in its cycle. But that may be changing.

"The sun is looking more like we think it should at this point in the solar cycle," Kunches said. "It's got a number of active centers."

Yes, the government and the media are obviously looking out for conspiracy theorists, letting them in on this so they can prepare. Those are the ones to warn. Normal 9-to-5ers and the like who would never think to pick through these clues? S.O.L. I guess.

Makes all the sense in the world.

I plan on turning off the power, disable all forms of communication.
So unless I hear a air raid siren I am going to call it a failure.
They sure have a lot a faith that we will all have power, radios, etc when a disaster hits.

There is something about that frequency that just seems to hit right in the middle of the skull.....wonder what it is.

Won't they make it clear in writing and spoken words, that "this is a test", while they are broadcasting?

Not to sound evil or even cruel, has anyone even thought perhaps they changed the time to keep people from flaking out?

in a 3 minute test you can flake more then a 30 second one..

and I would only worry about the mind control, when they add cell phones and all forms of instant media to their list of emergencies, then again maybe we are already under mind control, look how easily everyone here gets freaked out by a typo.

I for one am thankful for those alerts, they saved my family more then a few times when I lived in Illinois.

once again not being evil, just tossing my worthless two cents into this pile, guess all we can really do is wait and see, but if it has been like most things around here...I'm still waiting...
