The disclosure project had respectable people from the military and air traffic, etc. that were set to go before congress back in May of 2001. Then came 9/11 and no hearings.....

Sadly, We have seen this before. Former President Jimmy Carter had promised full disclosure of the UFO information as well. Alas he did nothing. Clinton the same....and nothing. I feel the ones controlling the really nitty-gritty info will never release it. They probably know that if the did release the real info then thay will loose power in short fashion.

My personal opinion is that the only "disclosure" anyone will accept is one that conforms to whatever beliefs they already have.

The government's official stance has always been that whether or not they exist, they don't seem to represent a threat, so they don't officially study or interact with them. Not many people buy that one.

For the majority of people, an acceptable disclosure would be the government saying that they've been tracking these UFOs for years, they're probably from another planet but they won't make direct contact with us, so we don't know for sure, but as far as we can tell they do not represent any kind of threat to us. We'll continue to watch them closely, though, and still try to make contact. But that's not going to satisfy everyone.

They could also come out and confirm that according to their secret studies, Earth has constantly been and still is visited occasionally by an unknown number of living intelligences from other planets and universes, with some of them being humans from a parallel universe or the future, and some of them being manifestations of consciousness that used to be called angels or demons. They don't seem to be a threat, but that could change at any moment. That would just freak people out and cause a lot of problems.

But which is the truth? Are we sure we want to know the truth, or can even understand it? Hard to say.

Thanks JohnySeagull I think I am in too bad of a mood to argue that and my reading comprehension with the OP today. If you really think WSJ is calling for ET disclosure go right ahead, what do I know anyway?

From what I see its just saying that Stephen Bassett started the Government petition which 9,500 of his followers signed , Stephen Bassett has been calling the the end of " the truth embargo " for years I don't see how this is any different .

These petitions are just a public relations exercise to show how much the Government cares about the opinion of the people

We had one recently in the UK asking for a referendum regarding leaving the EU , the Government and the opposition were so so keen to hear the view of the people they crushed it by ordering their MP's to vote against the motion .
Power to the people

They'll just be given a copy of the Air force's fact sheet. You know the one. The American Govt stopped investigating UFO's in the 60's. They pose no threat to national security and so on and so forth.

That old chestnut

That is ludicrous by itself, how can something that does not exist not be a threat, saying something IS not a threat means you admit it exists, you admit UFOs or unknown aircraft exist. Plus what these early statements said, it was before cases of shut down by UFO missile silos, still not a threat?

And the article really tells nothing, it's like the main point is 'there are different kind of petitions oh and by the way one of them is about ETs but it's not what gov have in mind', what disclosure are you talking about?

Correct. They feel it is We The Editors and We The Contributors who the government ought to listen to.

But several government documents and studies _have_ stated that "UFOs" exist...

There has been numerous "meetings of the press club". Unfortunately none of them have amounted to anything more than brief recognition by the MSM, then on to Lindsey Lohan or whatever story of the month...

Then why are there people who put UFOs and aliens under the same flag and say UFOs dont exist *tear for stupidity on ATS*

I disagree. The way it reads to me is that the WJS is simply reporting the fact that while the government expect people to petition on issues the government considers important (like Obama's job initiative) the real petitions are more in line with what 'We the People find important, like legal weed, raw milk and ET disclosure.

I see no sign of either support or ridicule in that article, more like surprise that no one cares about major issues

When the White House promised to answer citizen petitions on the most pressing problems of the day, it may not have had extraterrestrial life in mind.

And issues like massive federal deficits, two wars and high unemployment don't appear to be on the people's minds.

That is actually scary... gives the government free reign if no one cares..

But this comment is interesting

Mr. Phillips allows that some U.S. petitions submitted so far are a bit outside the White House agenda for America. "Some of these issues are going to be inconvenient," he said. He added that all these issues are important to someone and deserve a government response.

Asked which official or agency would tackle the E.T. question, Mr. Phillips said it would be decided at a meeting the next day. Asked after the meeting who drew the assignment, a spokesman said they wouldn't be commenting until the official response is ready.

What about that truth embargo? "You're going to have to wait," Mr. Phillips said.

So it looks like even though its a strong petition, we are not going to get an answer

Nice article... I see no ridicule at all, just honest reporting for a refreshing change
