Christianity as Jesus laid down the foundation for was meant to be a personal relationship with God. Where we could each of us come to him in the temple of our hearts without the need for a priest or a pope. It was also meant to be a religion, an institution that would be used to spread his message as far as it could possibly go, across the world.

Unfortunately there are those who decided to corrupt what he had wrought. Namely the Roman Catholic Church, whom has taken it upon themselves to install a 4th member to the trinity which men bow down to and kiss his ring as if he were Christ himself, the human representative of Christ on earth when all christians are the representatives of Christ on earth, not just one man. This medievel church began selling real estate in heaven for worldly riches and power and taught that you had to confess to a priest in order for God to hear you. Many mistake Christendom for Christianity. It is the Lords will for us to congregate together and worship him and to take strength from our brothers and sisters and fellowship with them so that we may all grow stronger together in Christ, but it we should not be about trying to gain power and material wealth because we are supposed to be throwing these things away to show him that we are ready to be with him. Jesus said "I AM, the truth the way and the life, no one comes to the father but through me". He is the way, follow his path and you will see him at the end of the road. This is the only way to be with him. We must take up our crosses and go with him. Break denominationism, tear down the walls that separate us and return to our first love. Jesus Christ.

I have to say this was beautifully worded. Thank you Lonewolf for an informed answer. You are right in that the Roman Catholic Church had much to do with the "downfall" of the true message, though I have to say they were not the only ones.

we could each of us come to him in the temple of our hearts without the need for a priest or a pope.

Which is exactly what I have done. I do not disagree with those who congregate, in fact I wish I could find a group to gather with, but being in a rural area that is predominantly conservative Christian, it is difficult to find those who are like minded. So, I hold my own prayers and convictions within my heart and my mind.

Christians are not called to judge their fellow man. (Matthew 7:1-3) (Luke 6:36-38). We are called to be a living example of Christ. That is what Christian is supposed to mean..a follower of Christ's teachings. I fear the majority are failing...miserably.

Where does Christ teach the people with wrath, intolerance, and insults? We are given a path to walk, a beacon to direct us. We would do well to remember that.

Peace

edit on 10/31/2011 by TNTarheel because: spelling...as usual

Even the Lord grew angry when he walked into the temple and saw the money lenders and gamblers profaning the temple and he kicked over their tables and rebuked them. That was one instance where he taught with righteous fury.

Another instance was when he and his disciples were passing by a town in Samaria and the people did not come to greet them because it was unlawful for any non jew to approach a jew (jews thought it a sin to allow the shadow of a samaritan to touch them), and 2 of the disciples said "Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to destroy the town" and Jesus rebuked them and said "you do not know of what spirit you are of! i have come to save all mankind".

Jesus felt everything we did being in a human body, he even felt fear in the garden of gethsamane when he asked God to take this cup from him if it were possible, when he foresaw the horrors that would be done to him.

Your words speak true, wolf. However, I was speaking of those who came to learn from Him. There is a place and time for righteous anger.

I ask again...where did Christ teach the people with wrath, intolerance, and insults? I do not think you will find an incidence of that. I do not remember reading of any.

A teacher who alienates the student becomes a stumbling block. That would be quite the contradiction, yes?

This is why we need to tear down denominationism. There is only one message, the love of Christ and how he sacrificed himself so that we might be free of being damned if we accept him. So many churches argue and bicker over doctrine and how to worship when the key has always been in the word.

How do we worship? Lift up our hands and give a joyful shout, rejoice and make a joyful noise. To what doctrine should we adhere too? John 3:16 "for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son Christ Jesus, so that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life".

The works we should be doing are the works Jesus did himself, he fed the hungry, he clothed the poor, healed the sick and ministered to the dying, he spread the news of his coming. All these things are possible through the Holy Spirit that he has given each and everyone of his children. Even in this day and age we can still lay on hands and heal, for his glory. Many have forgotten who we are meant to be and what were supposed to do.

Yes you are right. You cannot teach someone when you belittle them or are prejudiced or yell obscenities at them and Jesus did none of those things.

Nor should anyone else who would call themselves a Christian.

Or so it seems to me.

Peace to you, wolf

OP, I fear we have taken your thread off-topic...for that I apologize.

I could be wrong here TNT, and please boymonkey correct me if I'm wrong, but due to the fact that this thread is attempting to understand why there is little tolerance between religions, I would think that getting into the details of those religions could be an important insight. So, technically we cannot go off topic if we are talking about faith and/or religion.

I am asking all the Muslims on here do you accept buddhists?
Mix and match any question,
All faiths are saying the same thing Don't be a bugger to other people right?

And of those who aren't Christian?

The preaching of "my way is the right way" continues.

You do not have to accept it. That is your right by the free will covenant. We have done our part by giving you the testament and the news of Jesus Christ. What you choose to do with it is on you. Our part has been fulfilled.

Christ's way IS the right way my friend. The problem is that many do not know how to discern his followers.

A true follower of Christ carries the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven, that they come in peace, that they are here to heal the sick, feed the poor, and render all their useful service unto God.

That is what Christ did and taught and what his followers were commanded to do in his absence and in his name.

So do not judge Christians, but instead learn to properly discern the followers of Christ. Do some separating of the wheat from the chaff of your own. Just remember to look at yourself first, and be sure you are living up to the standards you expect of others.

This message brought to you in Christ's name.

With Love,

Your Brother

No it's not and that is a very arrogant statement. You say love and brother while at the same time telling people that they follow a false religion. like some kind of smiling assassin.
