You tube videos are not science experiments, that tooth was dead, was not being washed by salive, brushed, and whatever the mouth does to try to keep it healthy.

Blueberries also stain teeth. So does chocolate. Doesn't mean they are bad for you.

You stick anything in a dark liquid for a few days, it will stain.

in grade school we did a science project where a tooth recently fallen out and donated was kept in a sealed bottle of coke
it took about a month to drill more holes in it than a sponge

hmmm brush teeth more often? yes folks

that said i once fasted for over a month, no food at all

drinking coke helped

still for the sake of younger members S&F

EDIT to add just saw stop-loss's video whoa
new "improved" formula?
or seriously bad teeth? fluorosis?

school experiment was back in the eighties

The only thing this shows is that calcium carbonate, the major constituent of egg shells, dissolves in carbonic acid, the stuff in soft drink. It's basic chemistry and really doesn't have much implication on what coke does to our bones or teeth. Anyone pouring Coke on their bones probably has more problems than the solvating effects of the acid in it, anyway

Not saying that coke or any soft drink is great for teeth, or anything. It's not and it does degrade enamel, etc. So does juice. I'm just pointing out that your video doesn't really show what you think it does, because, well, our teeth aren't made of chalk.

I'm not saying it's a scientific breakthrough, but it's something most people can relate to. If you notice, I added the more technical details of what happens inside the body after it's consumed.

Misses smarty pants.

Are you saying that chocolate, blueberries and coca cola are not bad for you?

The fact is all three are acidic foods (blueberries less so than the other two), and acidic foods are generally bad for you, this also generally includes all meats and refined foods (by the way i'm not a vegetarian). Alkaline and Acidic Foods

An old friend of mine (haven't seen him for a few years now) used to drink about two litres of coke a day, and his teeth were rotten, even though he brushed daily. I always equated it to his coca cola addiction.

We should generally all be trying to eat a majority of alkaline foods, which fruits and vegetables make up a large portion of. As healthy humans we should maintain a ph level of neutral or above, ideally in the range of 7.3-7.4 ph. The average ph for the general populace hovers around 7.0-7.1 ph. If a person reaches 6.9 ph there is a high likelihood of severe illness to death (doesn’t take much of an acidic system to kill you).

In order for our bodies to neutralise 1 glass of coca cola (ph of 2.5... in other words super acidic), it takes approximately 32 glasses of fairly heavy water (ph of around 10).

Not all acidic foods are bad, in fact some of the foods with the highest level of antioxidants are acidic (such as blueberries); and the occasional glass of coke, or small amounts of chocolate are fine. The key is moderation; all things in balance, with a majority of our intake being alkaline foods.

Cheers

Okay guys after reading and seeing the videos I have an important question.

It's nothing to do with death though, it's about being the best person you can possibly be, and achieving the very best you can in your life - which involves optimum health, both physical and mental. Whilst you're poisoning your mind and body with this rubbish, you'll never be functioning at your very best. I'm certain that it's crud like this that causes a huge proportion of cases of depression and illnesses. I'd rather give my body the very best it deserves, and feel clean and healthy, than eat and drink poisonous rubbish just because it tastes "good" and I'll "die eventually anyway". Anyway, urgh, it actually doesn't taste good at all. If you detoxed your body of this rubbish for a while and then try going back to it, you'll be repulsed and your tastebuds won't be able to handle it!

That video looked so easy to test myself, so I tried to do the thing with Coke and Egg. Nothing happened, and after 2hrs I just drank it (the Coke that is).

You end up with a bouncy, rubbery egg.
Also, I don't know if it's still around, but Tang, the instant drink made famous by NASA in the late 60's, was a great product that was able to get rid of calcium deposits and buildup from dish washers and shower stalls.
Wonder what it did to our tummies?

Did nothing to mine. I drank that stuff religiously as a kid and nothing ever happened to me yet and i am 32 now. This is why the thread is bullsh*t except for the fact that yes drinking tons of soda will rot your teeth because i did that. It's not the soda per se its all the sugar thats rots your teeth. Candy will have the same effect, like if you suck on a sucker everyday for a year or 2, youre going to get some awsome cavities even if you brush your teeth 3 times a day.

Speaking of sugar. Don't you just love hallween? Trick or treat? Rot my teeth! Literally the only time of year where promoting cavities is a holiday.

We are dealing with it by diet, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle.

By the way these defeatists talk we should all lay in bed and wait for death because it "doesn't matter anyway"

Get up off your fat kiesters and take care of yourself. You have the time. You are worth it.

I don't like soft drinks and don't drink them, so feel no reason to debate the claims of ill effects they cause really... but the effects of it as an acid always makes me laugh! People around me always bring up some experiment they did in school often in which a peice of meat was placed in Coke for a day, and it was broken down and eaten up by the Coke. "Can you imagine what that does to your insides???" they exclaim.

Uh, stomach acid does exactly that. It is in our body and is useful exactly because of the way it breaks food down.
I always thought that was why soft drinks like Coke and Pepsi (didn't Pepsi once have Pepsine in it as well??) were mostly introduced as a drink to go with greasy and difficult-to-digest foods like hamburgers and fries- Because it aided the stomach acid in it's work to break all that down!

I think that once in a while we get sick and throw up, and that is even helpful to our bodies at times (when we have ingested something our body cannot handle).
If we vomit all the time (like with binging and purging) we end up having the teeth rot, because of the stomach acid.

But vomitting once in a while doesn't cause your teeth to rot, does it? I tend to guess that most things can be eaten if not in excess, and I would be willing to guess that once in a while, if you eat a particularly heavy and hard to digest meal, it couldn't be that dangerous to have a coke with it, and add more acid to help your stomach out.

I bet if someone looked for it, they could find ill effects of eating hundreds of carrots every day for a long period of time. Moderation is awesome.

With all that in one glass, reckon there is only room left for an olive, stuffed maybe and the stick...Haha.

I don't think anyone says soda is good for you per say.

We use it on car batteries to get the grime off the terminals.

Just don't drink to much of it and you will be fine.

People love snorting drugs, and there are things (like smoking) people 40 years ago
did not understand the effects it really had. Same with soda and trans fats.
No one is thinking they can prevent death but if you can live healthy up until you die
I say you won. People can prevent getting diabetes and living with the complications
of it by learning things about this.

Exactly what I've always thought. I grew up in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, my family ate fried everything. Pork chops, fried potatoes, fried apples, fresh made biscuits with gravy. That was Breakfast. Same type of cooking every meal. Great Grandparents, Grandparents, all lived to their 90's and beyond. One lived to 107. Dad died of lung cancer/black lung from the coal mines. Mom still goin'. The point is, genetics has Alot to do with how long you live. Now, I do agree that eating junk food all day long is not the best diet. But it's probably not going to be what kills you in the end.

That's not what Mr's Marsh told us when we were teenagers!

It's why the colgate protected your teeth!!

I stumbled across this and found it very interesting. I did not think this would be the result, but alas the chemicals (phophoric acid) have a negative effect on organic compounds and elements like calcium, which are found in the teeth and bones.

Now this led me to another article that explains what happens within an hour after drinking coke.

•In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.

•20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)

•40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.

•45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.

•>60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.

•>60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.

•>60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.

I agree with you for the most part, but the thread title is a blatant untruth.
an egg does not represent what soft drinks do to the human body.
The acid in your stomach would break down an egg alot faster than a coke.
Very bad analogy that takes away from some of the truths you mentioned in your OP.

Cool vid, but a major flaw in the experiment: Coca Cola does not sit in your mouth or stomach for 365 days. More like 1 second in your mouth and a few hours in your stomach. Still, I personally prefer water over any other beverage.
