Thats just silly. The protesters are not 'machine breakers' .Technology is our friend. They are not like the 'Luddites'. We are going forward not backward. We will seize the technology and ensure that it is used for good instead of just for profit.Make sure it isnt held back.Make sure it helps the many, not just the few.We will take it all.We will ensure that corporations are in the public interest. And that goverments serve the people. The people are not protesting technology.Tesla new we could all have free energy but J.P. Morgan wanted to know "where can I put the metre?" They could have had steam power in Rome but held it back because they prefered slaves. The protesters are not hypocrites, they can see that they are slaves is all.And there is no need for slaves.Technology should be our slave and it should be in the hands of us all.It should not be used to control us and exploit us.

That's truly a stunning rebuttal; would you care to elaborate?
I don't mean to sound like a jerk but surely your opinion stretches beyond a simple cluck of disapproval.

I support the protests and I agree with you,Gore,Kerry,Soros,Robbins are the enemy. We agree.I also agree with less government, making the most of nucular power and drilling for oil.Of course we will disagree on some things but we can all agree that western goverments have failed their people and failed the world.Dont be put off the protests because there are some activists there. We can use enviromentlists to our advantage because they agree, goverments have failed. And anyway, most of them know that there are better ways of improving our environment than with crony capitalism like the whole Solyndra thing.Thats why they are there. We can destract them from oil pipelines and nucular power with more sensible solutions than the one's western governments have have offered. Join the protests, you would be welcome.

I almost starred you because I agreed with everything you said up untill you said, the protestors will be lynching people next. You and I both know that isn't going to happen, why post extreme and unlikely scenarios?

There are bad apples in every movement and unfortunately those bad apples make their way into power in the movement. NEVER under estimate the POWER of a MOB mentality.

Should we start getting rid of all the BABY BOOMERS?
This seems like a good plan as they are all using up the resources and are so greedy! They became the establishment they fought so hard against and then made this country (the world) a mess! They failed to make this a better place for their children and now suck the younger generations dry...

Anyone over 50, care to take a ride on carousel?

It seems to me that people preach about how the OWS movement is going the wrong way. BUT these same people will never implement a movement to validate there supposedly right way. Also the longer a protest goes on the more people seem to stop backing it due to the inconvenience to there daily lives. These people have no place in a movement that will inadvertently change there lives for the better. They are lazy and would rather just keep going the way things are and live in there bubble . In every protest there are elements that will evidently be bad this is the nature of a wide scale protesting through out history. But these elements do not and should not reflect the ideology of such movements. keep the faith all you protesters OWS

OP, you complain about the costs of alternate energies but you advocate massive nuclear expansion? Nuclear power is just as, if not more expensive than renewable resources.

As you must have read, assuming you read any news at all, there is a problem with insurers not wanting to touch the nuclear industry because of the great risk of failure. Not only would it destroy their investment, but the lands and lives of potentially millions of people in the immediate area and around the world. Because of this new nuke plants require MASSIVE government subsidies. I wonder if there is a study about the cost of nuclear power that takes this additional cost (in the form of tax) into consideration.

With the recent development of a 90% efficient solar panel at CIT, increasing improvements in wind/water generating technologies, and a generation of people who understand that our planet is precious, and unique, I have great hope that we will finally start investing in renewables and break our addiction to petrochemicals - at least as a fuel source.

Even if you do not agree with OWS' ideology, you should commend them for their spirit. It's hard to believe there are people content with the state of the US in particular, and the world in general. It's obvious that private interests play a massive roll in mapping out and implementing government policy, and that's what OWS is fighting against. This is OUR world, and it's time to break the bonds between big money and government and take it back.

I think we all know, those of us setting behind these monitors, that the OWS movement is just way too Vague. There is no certain cause we can rally behind, no particular organization we can point to, or no clear villins to expose. It's much too generalized, and no one is claiming a leadership role. There is cleary too much corruption in government, with lobbying, corperate financing and personal interest in politics to nail any one aspect. I believe this capitolism gone full circle. Socalism is usually the end result. (my opinion) There are no 'GOOD' candidates, there never seems to be. It always seems to be voting for the 'lesser of two evils'. This has to change, and career polititions has to be stopped or we will always have EGOS fighting for supremacy. Who is OWS? You can't just point in a general dirrection and say 'That'. There has to be a concrete plan..... something to rally behind. There will always be leaders and followers, and those just looking for a social event in these protests. There will be division between Conservatives and Liberals. And the naieve that trust others to be noble. I'v been watching online, the events as they have unfolded, and I still don't know who to back. I know whats 'right' but not how to emplement it, there are just too many corrupt self serving laws to aid the crooks, designed and emplemented by them.

I wish your were right but sadly you are incorrect. 80% of the worlds energy will come from fossil fuels..20 years from now 80% of the worlds energy will come from fossil fuels. Alternative energy source will not be able to meet the demands of the growing world now or ever. Its just a sad fact.

Maybe should not only look into alternative resources but also come to the realization that fossil fuels are here to stay and make a better use of the emissions that they let off.

Why have you come to this conclusion? Can you site any evidence of this?

Your statement seems very defeatist to me.. Do you think this because technologies are withheld to continue the crazy profits of fossil fuels or do you just believe that's it's not possible to efficiently harness enough renewable energy to power our way of life?

There's not going to be a lot of oil in 20 years if we keep consuming at our current rate.. So if you are correct that we will never find alternatives in 20-50 years most of the world will have returned to the pre-industrial era.

All I heard in the first couple of posts is "Wa", Waa" and "Waaaa". Picking at every little thing you can think of to put the protesters down. Stop being crybabies. Them going home and ending protesting isn't going to do anything. They have a better chance of awakening people and teaching people how we're getting screwed on a daily basis, whether they have solutions or not. The problem is, there are too many problems to have a unified solution. Tear them a new one because the problem is too complex.. right..

I'm against the "extreme liberal" aspect of the protests, but I can read between the partisan lines. "Rich People" aren't what they're protesting, whether you want to make it sound that way or not. It's the mechanisms in our society that are making the rich richer at an exponential rate that we're pissed about.

Remember when The Mafia was just a myth and no one really believed they existed? Well, now there's a super mafia, of bankers and politicians, and that's what they're trying to bring to light.

It has been based on the current trends on current rate of consumption in both the US and developing countries. China being on of the largest right now. China is now buying planets in the US. Watch for big development in liquid natural gas (LNG) they are building plants that can convert this stuff back to gas and gas to liquid.

Let me find the file and I will link it for you.

You are right fossil fuels are cheap and they have probably the highest return. But you said it here best here:
" it's not possible to efficiently harness enough renewable energy to power our way of life". We have become lazy in comfortable in our way of life.

There is more oil and fossil fuel than you realize. This "peak oil" works both ways...some say we are at a shortage price goes up and we have a large push for alternative fuel. Both parties are probably bed mates!

IDK about the US but here in Germany nuclear power, for example, is very much subsidized. I'd be surprised, if it were very different elsewhere.

en.wikipedia.org...

That doesn't even take into account that no viable solution for long term storage of the active waste materials exists. Not only spent fuel rods/pellets but also each and every bolt, nut, screw of the reactor core are radioactive, making demolition of shut down plants time consuming and very expensive.

A cost factor that is often conveniently ignored or underrepresented.

First of all - all Children are special. Second - a lot of Children would not know what it means to feel special let alone have someone tell them they are special. Some Children wake up in a home with nothing but violence - no food and no real hope for anything. Some Children spend their life trying to build a life of their own - without any support from the people who are supposed to support them - the people who chose to bring them into the world - their parents.

You really lost me as soon as you started talking about specifics on where money should be spent. Money is the problem behind all the societal woes - all over the world. The rich get richer because for some reason they think it will save them. Look how long Occupy Wall Street has lasted and look at all the offshoots all over the planet.

The Occupy *insert location here* - is about people finding a voice. They are out in the street because that is their only option. The 'voice' does not own a newspaper or television studio or a film studio - they own themselves and that is about it. If they had access to a mainstream media outlet they would probably use that as a medium for communicating their needs - however the elite own all the major communication productions - so - the people use what they have - themselves.

Money is the problem - too much in the hands of too few. Children being born into this world have little hope of employment when technology can replace a human. Children being born into this world have all the global problems that have not yet been solved plus they will have their own generational problems to tackle.

Mummy told me I am special - I never heard that in my life and I know I am not alone on that comment.
ALL CHILDREN are special - we have not given them a place in society to be special. Get your head out of your a**e as we say in Australia.

Much Peace...

All great points.

The hypocracy of protesters raging against all that is corporate all the while texing on their cell phones, posting their plans on YouTube and Facebook, then going home to relax while watching the news really riles me up. Its only a matter of time till some of these hoods start pulling rich people from their homes and hanging them.

Yea and this is what you get in the end.....violence. After all the years of "educating" for a socialistic utopia on college campuses all over the place they will still have to resort to violence in the end. Heck what am I talking about! They have been teaching violence for years! "Direct Action"! And yet its some guy out in the woods with an assult rifle that you must watch out for. Never mind that they have been teaching "direct action" on your tax dime for years in government approved brainwashing centers.

WOW what happened to the "Grey Area" here on the ATS? Why is it if your not for every single anti-government movement your are "PRO" establishment?

Not every movement is a GOOD thing.... one has to ask then what? We are in this mess now because of poor planning. The grass may be greener on the other side but its the snakes in the grass that can kill you.

Grey area? Try blatant bias coated with childish playground insults. “Mommy told me I’m special generation”

Do you think that's good debate?

Those people are out there doing a marvelous job FINALLY WAKING PEOPLE UP, and a handful of "ATSers" are acting as the long arm of the msm and marginalizing them. Sad, real sad. Makes me ill actually.
