Sure Gadaffi was running a dictatorship, but in reality so is every nation on Earth - a dictatorship.

At least in Gadaffi's case, they guy honestly implemented policies that reflect the will of the people and increase prosperity across the board for the general population.

The increase in literacy rates during his reign should serve as a great example of what this dictator's vision for the nation was.

The last time I checked the UK Prime Minister and US President did not order our war wounded from Afghanistan and Iraq to be taken up in a plane and dumped in the ocean never to be heard from again. That is precisely what Gaddafi did with the wounded Libyans from the 7 year conflict he created with Chad.

That was an 'honestly implemented policy' for the good of his propaganda machine.

If the UK Prime Minister and US President did do such things you simply would not know of it. There would have been an "accident" or some such bull. I honestly doubt there is anything said of any of the leaders taken out by us that could not truethfuly be said of any of the accepted world leaders if truth be known.

Really though, is that why Obama went after Qaddafi? Because Qaddafi called him on his lies? Qaddafi embraced him at first. He was disillusioned just like everyone else. Surely it wasn't because he called the US a dictatorship.


Actually, I think Qaddafi himself may have been projecting about his own style of rule. Maybe it was one dictator to another. I read that he had built a lot of stuff for the country and used a kind of socialistic economy. I would say he was a bit like Mussolini. You know the benevolent dictator type.

that statement is fact, not just truth. the british and u.n. created the conflict in palestine. before that they lived in peace together.

The insidious part is that because the elite create an underclass or the flood of illegal aliens they encourage to come to the US (poor with little opportunity) they have a ready made mass of humanity that will enter the army willingly since that is one of the only avenues open to them for survival.

I have held my tongue, for the most part, regarding Gaddafi, but I would just like to set something straight...The man was no saint by any means, taking responsibility for terrorist acts, or supplying terrorists, among a number of other things.

The thing is though, he was no worse than any western leader, or any leader throughout the world. He did what he thought was right, even if that wasn't always the correct thing to do. I do believe that he was killed because he wouldn't play ball with the western world, as that much is obvious.

Did he deserve to be overthrown and killed? No more than any other leader in the world in my opinion. But, what you must realize is that's how the game is played. It's a high-stakes game, where many lives are involved. I didn't create the system, I don't like it, but that is the way it is.

I think a testament to his character can be found in the fact that he remained in Libya, instead of fleeing like most other leaders would have done. I think he really believed what he was saying, and acted accordingly.

So there are those of us who say that he was a terrible dictator, and those who say he was a great man. As always, the truth lies somewhere in between, and that is what we should remember.

After reading this thread throughout I have to observe a couple things here... people that are damning OP for 'agreeing' with a dictator, c'mon... we agree with Western dictators all the time. There is very little absolute in this existence. Don't like 99.9% of what he stood for but we can discuss the other .1% can't we? As for why TPTB did this, I think it has to do with 30,000 Chinese oil workers being sent home when this broke. I think it has to do with Western power trying to curb Chinese imperialism and global resource control. I read the Petrophiles comment and thought, yep...that is close to the mark. This planet, until momentous change transpires, will evolve and revolve around hydrocarbons.

No actually I do not think they were simply misunderstood. Tyrants and killers are just that, tyrants and killers. Having said that there is no such thing as absolute, no matter how angry you are about an individual.
