So you are planning for something, but you don't know what it is...or when it will occur.

Got it.

ok so youre gonna take the opposite aproach and prepare for nothing then when something happens what will you do? be one of the people who tries to hurt others to survive? good luck with that one. Or will you just starve to death waiting for your beloved government to hand out their rations...

Also, the food I have is good for about 5 years... and will be rotated when the time comes. The seeds are the most important thing as they will be what sustains us for future years to come. Non GM seeds or heirloom seeds are the key as they are the original seeds which humans survived on for milenia.

I honestly think there has been a sub-group of people saying the same thing you are saying all throughout history.

Some just see the negative in the world...and are convinced something is going to happen any day now...and they obsess over it and IMO waste their life waiting for something to happen instead of living their lives.

Don't believe me...ask the people that built fall out shelters in the 60's how much use they got out of those.

Now I'm not saying nothing bad will ever happen...but trying to prepare for "something" that is going to happen "sometime" is a waste in my opinion. I'll take things as they come, and I'll enjoy life up until that point without worry.

Very good advice! ive been saying about seeds for a long time now. proper seeds, no GM seeds, you want your crops to produce more seeds for the years to come (incase this is longer term)

id also get your hands on some survival books about eatable berries and other naturally growing food. dont want to eat the wrong thing, KA-POW! your dead and all that preparation for nothing.!

5. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME! Seeds for planting. I personally bought 1/2 a million different types of vegatable seeds for planting in an extended emergency. I bought these off ebay for only 73 dollars and this could be the most important thing for everyone. I have enough NGM modified seeds to last my family and more for a lifetime. Also get the tools neccessary to cultivate the land, such as ho's, shovels, rakes and more.

whoa, youre taking a big step there saying im not living my life everyday... I actually own a succesful fishing charter business and do indeed go on living like nothing will happen, but am prepared for something to happen. Thats a big assumption you made there pal, and you know what they say about assuming, that it makes an ass out of you.

Thanks for the invitation...we'll look you up if that day comes and we will be ready to work the land. The only thing I'd like to add to this list is that the radios, flashlights and the like should be hand crank and solar powered. Oh, and a good cross bow-the arrows you can retrieve and make on your own not so with bullets.

Lots of fall out shelters were built in the eighties too
People turned them into cool little party rooms

I agree, but if you saw how many bullets I actually had for the dozen guns I have, you would understand that I have enough for the rest of my life. thanks and hopefully it wont come to us farming, but if it does, im down for the get down!!!

Also smart observation on the hand crank ones. I actually have a hand held crank radio/flashlight all in one, bought it for like 20 bucks.

Would the power be cut off in this possible emergency situation. Because there is no campfire to be had on the 3rd floor of an apartment building.. and uncooked rice is extremely unpleasant to eat.

Yeah it would... and also if you live in an apartment building you can expect alot of competition for what you have. I would recommend coleman grill and kerosene heat for your survival needs

I have been collecting food and water since last March. We live in a rural area and have a well, but it is run with electricity. Last February when the temps here dropped to around zero with a windchill of minus 20, our well, which is not covered by a well house, froze solid so we had no water. I have been storing water in used milk jugs so that we have water for toilets, bathing, etc. I tried going potty out in the field with the wind howling on my backside, it wasn't a good experience. I also buy bottled water for drinking, which is stored in our underground shelter.

I got plenty of food. We got lots of ammo and some good rifles / shotguns. We also are connected with farmers and off-the-gridders in the area who have chickens, goats, cows, etc. I purchased lots of food items for bartering when they were cheaper (sugar, cocoa, coffee, flour).

My only concern is that our house was constructed as all electric in 1974. It has no fireplace or wood stove. I am concerned that, if TSHTF in the dead of winter, we'll freeze unless we figure out a way to bring heat into at least one room. We have considered a generator, but my husband is dragging his feet on it due to the cost, and besides, those only last as long as one has fuel to operate them.

Anybody have any ideas on how to stay warm in our situation?

Free standing wood burning stove/fireplace. Used in the papers 1-2 hundred dollars. Real cheap, lot's of heat and you can also cook/heat water on it. You live in a rural area, so fire wood should not be a problem.

I agree, the sky has been falling ever sense the dawn of time. But it was not until i started looking into the economy and the imposible math we are faced with now. By October 31 we will be at 100% debt to GDP ratio. Greece is at 130%. we will reach 130% in 2 to 3 years if intrest rates stay low. if they rise we will get there faster.

Rate are low right now because the FED is printing money and buying US bonds to keep rates low. In the last 6 weeks the US bond market has seen the largest foreign bond market sell in US history. foreign goverments sold 75 billion dollars in US bonds..... This is not good. This is why the FED has to buy are own bonds with printed money because foreign goverments dont want our bonds anymore.

and you know what printing money does..............

I'll just wait for meltdown to occur and fall into some gang of hungry robin hoods, or start one.
No point in panicking and spending what I don't have, on anything I won't be using and need like right now.

Plus, what with hyperinflation, the Sheriff of Nottingham will be busy trying to find food too, so, opportunity for Robin hoodism will likely present.

I get it "sarcasm" right?

Deny ignorance: you already KNOW "something" is fairly close at hand...
buy what you eat and you just have an extended pantry..

"Band of Robin hoods"? In my neighborhood that's a euphemism for: "targets".

You think we are all buying weapons and ammunition to "polish and be proud" of?

You Sound alot like that other poster who said they have a "sling shot" now; but come shtf they'll be my "bff"! with my preps...

Uh-uh...Can't use 'em; Don't need any: ("bff"'s).

A small hibachi, use the baseboards first for fuel. I cooked on a small hibachi in my living room 15 years ago, during a kitchen renovation. Worked great!

Install a wood stove and stock up on firewood.

It's not that expensive and it's not that hard to do yourself.

Have fun.

I had a Grandad with great foresight, or maybe just very paranoid
.
Three generations of planning and preparation and about 75 people ready to go.
As hidden as it is possible to be, fresh cave water, hot spring, armory, food stores for 150, 300 with rationing.
Montana, but we gotta know you well before we invite.
