The population projection for 2053 is 16,777,216,000

If you have a child 2 years from now and they have a child in their mid 20s, your grandchild will live in a population of 34,359,552,000 by their 65th birthday

70 years on from that the population will stand at 68,719,104,000

280 years after that we reach 1,000,000,000,000

So in a nutshell our current population of 7 billion will have expanded by 143 times in 442 years.

Human population growth mirrors malignant tumor growth,

Von Foerster responded to the National Cancer Institute’s request that he develop a mathematical description of the proliferation of tumor cells (von Foerster, 1959, p. 391). His application to human populations was simply a way of testing the equation (von Foerster et al., 1960).

Malignant tumors invariably kill their hosts at 37-40 doublings. In population terms we are at approx. 32.75 doublings

In 2243 the 37th doubling will occur.

These are barebone details not factoring in overall biomass growth figures from our agricultural exploits. Everything we produce in biomass terms from cows to corn to the bacteria that thrive on our bio waste, makes an impression on our overall consumption figures and pollution. So, these figures are like a best case scenario.

I find all this astounding.

the video might be, but the story is not

It's being called the "poop burger". Japanese scientists have found a way to create artificial meat from sewage containing human feces.

Somehow this feels like a Vonnegut plotline: population boom equals food shortage. Solution? Synthesize food from human waste matter. Absurd yes, but Japanese scientists have actually discovered a way to create edible steaks from human feces.
from this web site

I think wonderful Japanese $h!t burgers should immediately be imported and marketed in the good old USA under the the trade-name "meaces". Just think for a moment, by ...

so the next time your in japan and ask for a burger think twice.

What we need is a major reduction.

OK. I'll play.
First- 10 billion is just a number, and for whatever reason it is the population number that seems to bother YOU.
The number is arbitrary.

Second- As has already been explained- The world is not overpopulated.

All the evidence is to the contrary.

Third- Why don't you go ahead and start the depopulation by killing yourself?

Who ever spoke about killing? Certainly not me! You appear to be the one harbouring judgement, malice and hatred. Your presumptuousness speaks volumes about yourself and none of it is good!

Or, as the person above me asked- Where would you like to start with the depopulation?

You have not given me a satisfactory answer firstly. All I've seen is you parrot other peoples words with little to no cognitive reasoning as to why you do it. Without an intelligent answer from you it seems pointless to attempt an adult discussion.

NEXT!

That website article posts the farcical video. It reads almost identically to the vid narration. Could you list a credible source for your claim? Like a university paper by a real scientist. The scientist named in that article does not exist.Do a wiki search for Mitsuyuki Ikeda and you'll find that he is less famous than Reginald Bosanquet. Who's he? Exactly.

Is there a joke here that's maybe gone above my head? I can't imagine how feeble one's critical thought process would be to believe that article..

they could easily fit another 100 million people..

The world is over populated bull shut is population control
global warming nut jobs pushing an agenda..

Africa could easily kill off some tigers and other useless animals
and fit billions if needed. People are more important then animals.

The average American lives in 3 acres +.

You're the most disgusting person I've seen on this website. Sure, let's destroy other species to make room for us. Sure, let's wreck the planet some more to make room for us. Why not? We're here, might as well abuse and take advantage of everything around us.

I can't wait until the water shortage gets worse, then maybe people will panic and realize that this planet is overpopulated.

Ok, here's the deal. If the overpopulation problem was based on space, we would have no problem. As many have stated, we could fit everyone in Texas and with like 1000 sq ft each or something. The problem is, it's not.

It's based on RESOURCES, mainly OIL. Oil has been the key to this population boom, producing all of the plastics, rubber, fibers in rope or cloths, fertilizers, pesticides, medicine, toothpaste, fueling our cars, trains, trucks, planes, heating out homes, more and more than you can even imagine. And we're running out.

Take the oil away, take the population away. The point is, it is going to be much more devastating to have this happen at a population of 9 billion or 10 billion or more than it would if we keep out current population or even reduce it slowly.

Also, the idea of fitting everyone in Texas or even 2 or 3 other states it absolutely ridiculous. Think of how many other things we need space for besides just homes like schools, factories, parks, roads, company buildings, airports, shopping centers, restaurants, small businesses, the works.

You also have the problem of sewage and garbage, we all know how terrible conditions were in overcrowded cities during the urbanization period in the late 19th century. Garbage was spread all across the city and sewage was grossly backed up. Just having enough space is the least of our worries.

According to this, oil will have run out in 42 years. I'm sure we'll find more in that time, but how much can we find and exploit in 42 years when it can take anything up to 20 years to tap a field after finding it. Also, in under 42 years, we will experience a doubling point, arriving at a population of 16,777,216,000.

Let's assume we reduce oil dependecy by 50% in 42 years(yeah right). That means in 2053 we will be consuming oil at the same rate we are now.Realistically, we wont achieve that reduction.New markets in burgeoning economies will create a new demand that will most likely outstrip any dependency reduction through alternative fuels.By 2053 oil consumption will have close to if not more than doubled.

Wow this is scary stuff.

Drastic changes will have to be made world wide or ...........?

I'm not too sure that the population will be able to grow to those types of levels, i believe there would be a heavy lack of resources, famine will more than likely happen and many people will die off due to lack of water, food, etc... I think people then will get the big picture and understand that they cant be so reckless with having children...

If Cantabrigian Phd Aubrey De Grey is correct, we are even more screwed. he is claiming that the first people to live for 1,000 years will be born in the next two decades.
He says the first people to reach 150 years old are already alive. The way things are going I hope I'm not one of them, because if I make it to 150, I will be a very old man trying to make it in a population of 274 Billion, almost 40 times the current level.
If you take the animal husbandry population and multiply by 40 to meet the demand of 274 billion it gets even more crazy. We are presently being warned of the worrying emmision levels of methane from cattle.

We'd better cultivate an appreciation for the smell of cows**t!

This is disturbing, I knew we were populating fast but I had no idea.

I know its against "Human Rights" but we need to implement a two child maximum then "Snip Snip", else we are in trouble.

I've always believed over population is what has caused a lot of the problems we face today.

I disagree.. it's not over population that's the problem, it's the people who control the resources.

And before you say "yeah but we'd eventually run out of things we need", realize that those who control resources necessary for life actively suppress the progress of technologies that would promote sustainability. Either because there's still so much money to be made from our current resource needs, or because they are eugenicists. Or both.

Two examples would be the electric car and Dean Kamen's slingshot water purifier.

Also consider that the United Nations estimated it would only cost $33 billion a year to completely SOLVE world hunger. Seriously... and that's not a typo, I did mean WORLD hunger. $33 billion a year. The US spends $20.2 BILLION A YEAR ON AIR CONDITIONING TROOPS TENTS IN AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ

China has a one-child policy. I guess that's sort of birth control..

Notice the graph says their current population is 1.33 billion, and their projected population for 2050 is 1.31 billion

It's the people who control the resources.

That's a very valid point, however the math on population projections doesn't lie.Over population will become a massive problem. It has been empirically studied for at least 50 years and has been tried and tested. The error margins are negligible. It's beyond the realm of mere opinion.

If that's true, then shame on all of us in the developed world. I do find it hard to take the UN seriously though.By those numbers, if half the worlds population chipped in 10 bucks per annum, world hunger would not exist.10 lousy bucks!

There is plenty of space, but imagine how much electricity we would need so everyone can live decent life. Another problem is jobs, they are not increasing forever cause we have robots. In future there is not many jobs left.

And when oil ends, that is gonna be catastrophe, since people use oil to warm their house. If we start producing biofuel, our food production suffers and that leads to famine. But thats nature's way to keep population at balanced state.

There is also surprising problem, clean water. In future we have to prepare that there is not enough clean water. Today we fight for oil, tomorrow for water. Cleaning water is expensive and poor countries are going towards water crisis.
