Room for one more? World population to reach 7 BILLION in next few days

www.dailymail.co.uk

The world's population looks set to smash through the seven billion barrier in the next few days, according to the United Nations.

It comes just 12 years since the total reached six billion - with official estimates saying the figure will top eight billion in 2025 and 10 billion before the end of the century.

And it is most likely the baby will be born in the Asia-Pacific region - where the population growth rate is higher than anywhere else in the world.

I had no idea we were this close to 7 billion. I thought we had a long time to go still. Go to the source and check out some of the graphs they have, it's insane how the population exploded in the last 100 years or so. I think if anything we need to be trying to have LESS people on this planet. It's also unfortunate where the majority of these kids will likely be born, poverty stricken areas. I wonder how many people the planet can actually support. Probably twice as many but still.

Wow I had no idea North America had one of the lowest populations. I'd figure we'd be up there higher with all the baby factory women we have here in the midwest.

That is really something to think about -
7 billion people in the world!!
Wonder where it will be in another 12 -
I will make a prediction that it will be
just 8 billion. Great maps and charts

Plenty of room for more..

At the worst there is over 40 million acres
set as national parks and state forest.

There are millions of acres outside the big cities
privately owned.

That is just the USA. Canada only has 34 million
they could easily fit another 100 million people..

The world is over populated bull shut is population control
global warming nut jobs pushing an agenda..

Africa could easily kill off some tigers and other useless animals
and fit billions if needed. People are more important then animals.

The average American lives in 3 acres +.

This is disturbing, I knew we were populating fast but I had no idea.

I know its against "Human Rights" but we need to implement a two child maximum then "Snip Snip", else we are in trouble.

I've always believed over population is what has caused a lot of the problems we face today.

I think you're right on with that prediction. Would be mine as well. Perhaps a bit more. Either way it's astounding to actually see how fast the population has exploded.

Well, with 7 Billion people on Earth, everyone can move to Texas and have approx. 1070 sq ft. Each. Everyone. Texas. Each. I don't have the numbers for how much they would consume though...but i am pretty sure that it is very doable. I am sure everyone one Earth could move to the US, live in Texas, and use the rest for farming, aquaculture, etc.

i dont know if i believe it... i mean how does anybody really know?

they could tell you any number under the sun like 22 billion and nobody has the resources or ability to actually check... and even if someone claimed that they did, who could dispute it?

Yeah it's disturbing to think about that. Of course they're not going to be anywhere near 100% accurate but I would think that it's possible to get close. Also, why lie? Oh wait...

Did you know that humanty would not have this level of technology or lifestyle without there being the amount of people in the world that there is today? Give or a take a million.

In order for us to do our day to day things and to have what we have it takes thousands of people working for you to do it. And those thousands need thousands.

One person puts a pc mouse together in a factory but it took thousands of people to get it there in the first place from hundreds of different industries.

If not for thousands of people working for you you would not have. A bed, bed clothes, clothes, a shower, a house, a car, a road, a shop, food on the shelves, a tv, a stereo, a microwave, a phone and everythign else you use and need.

If the population dropped to say a billion tomorrow so would the level of living and technology.

That's a very good point to consider. I certainly wouldn't be typing on this laptop if someone ( or thousands ) hadn't had a hand in it. Some people here would probably be all for that though

I understand but there has to be a point that we stop, we can't expand forever.

OK, here is a dumb question. How long until we start to have an oxygen shortage? I know that may sound crazy but think about it. We are now at 7 billion people and we have all the gas engines of all types using oxygen and all the fires or all types. Now on the supply side. We are cutting tress down like mad and cleaning more land each day. At what point does the oxygen usage gets higher than the supply?

With all the people and animals and oxygen using machines and fires of all kinds from forest fire down to your home fireplace and even the rusting metal the oxygen usage has to be at an all time high.

Sorry for the off topic post but I was just wondering if maybe this is something we need to think about.
