"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

Homosexuality in the Bible
Murder in the bible
Human sacrifice in the bible
Rape in the Bible
More disgusting quotes from the bible

So if everything Westboro says is commanded in the bible, who do you really hate: Westboro or your own religion?
If christians dont follow these rules why dont they worry about going to hell, you see to worry about doing other things in the bible.

Its testament to the brainwashing power of religions that christians follow their religion with heart and soul but not head.
Im sure many of you will say well we believe in love or that these quotes are irrelivant. But the fact is if you dont follow these things you are not a christian.

You make a good point.

In my opinion, Christians don't like Westboro because Westboro picks and chooses certain things from the bible and USES them to persecute gay people and serve their OWN agenda. Of course Christians do this, too, they just pick and choose DIFFERENT things from the bible to justify their intolerance, persecution and judgment of other people, and to serve their own agenda...

The action is the same, they're just using different tools from the same book... and what's funny is that they're both thinking they are on the 'right' side of God. :shk:

Religion should be about spreading Love, Hope, Forgiveness, and Thankfulness. Westboro Baptist are helping to spread anger, outrage, and hate.

Only God can judge.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Remove the plank from your own eye.

Westboro has decided to play 'Judge' and is only criticizing and condemning. I don't hate them, but if they are spreading negative feelings by picketing funerals, they must expect that negativity to come rushing back at them as karma (you reap what you sow).

Westboro is more than likely a mock organization. Just a guess.

It is disingenuous to say the least, even though they make a strong case for the hypocrisy of the modern Xtian fundamentalist in very strong and very real fashion.

They are pretty much no different than the rest of the Xtian right.

Who will forever be blind to their raging hypocrisy until the day they die.

I don't hate them, but I dislike their unscriptural Hellfire schtick. Fred Phelps is a very unbalanced man, as well.

well if this what most christians want why follow a religion that preaches the exact opposite?
westboro might be doing this but its in the name of the bible so what right does a christian have to say they are wrong?
if only god can judge, then westboro go to heaven and the rest go to hell..thats the simple facts of the bible.

i dont think westboro are trying to play judge, they are trying to tell people what they believe just like other christians do.

well we dont know what their intentions are but it is possible.
but this doesnt change the fact that they are doing what the bible says..

they are all the same right..

you cant believe in something that spreads hate and fear and say you dont believe in it..
its like saying i hate violence but i love boxing

I'm not trying to justify the Christian argument. I'm not a proponent of religion of any sort. I don't see a lot of difference between Westboro and other Christian factions.

the conundrum for a christian lay in the fact that their religion is wholly contained within 1 source... a book written thousands of years ago and translated countless times.

this inherent issue of placing one's total faith into one (human derived) source leads to most of the troubles facing the Abrahamic religions today.

many of the "rules" are undeniable archaic, written in another era, by a relatively small band of people with a particular value system, in a relatively difficult ecosystem. many of these "rules" are simply no longer applicable to a broad and ever evolving society. (many of these "rules" still are... which is why these religions persist. i doubt the Golden Rule will ever go out of style.
)

yet, if a follower can pick and choose which "rules" they prefer, then they are questioning the very authority of the one source they have wholly embraced.

it is not a dilemma i envy, and am thankful that the 'gospel', as i have come to understand it, is manifest in the majesty of Nature, the vastness of the Cosmos, the beauty of Art and the grace of Love... such blissfully brazen manifestations of Eternity simply cannot be confined into one source. how could it be?

but that's just how i'm seeing things.

PS... like Yoda says: hate leads to the Dark Side of the force... i would add, irregardless of the source.

'tis a shame we have wasted so much potential hating each other, and finding outdated esoteric reasons to do so.

All parts except the entire New Testament. They cherry pick the parts of the Old Testament to justify their hatred. They completely ignore the reason for the passage that you cherry picked to make your thread with.

hate group? their hate is in the word of god..
im sorry you didnt get taught the facts in school but what they say is exactly what the bible commands

i dont think they instill anger in christians
i think they expose the hatred of themselves or the religion they follow that is deep inside their subconcious

Are you being serious? Let me put it this way....what ever crazy rule you cherry pick from the Bible and want to believe is your business, but as for Westboro...THEY PROTEST THE FUNERALS OF DEAD SOLDIERS....No not just 'gay' soldiers....but regulars soldiers. If you can't see that this is NOT the time and place to share your message of hate, then you're just plain sick...as are Westboro.

BTW...as for cherry picking verses, here's some you are
conveniently forgetting

If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18)

People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)

i think its fine to learn from the good parts of the bible..but they shouldnt say they believe in god if thats all they take from it
your right i often wonder how advanced we would be today without religion..

Do I have to play 20 questions with all of you?
It is NOT written in the Bible. I was an athiest for fifteen years, and came to the Bible with no preconceptions or biases. One thing I noted was that little was said of Heaven and less of Hell. If it was really such a big deal, God would have given us more warning, but He never pronounced a judgment worse than simple death. There is a site named Tentmaker which has a list of Bible verses sufficient to establish the doctrine of Universal Reconciliation. Do your own research, and you will quickly see that the common comcept of Hell came from pagan sources, and Hell as you find it in the Bible almost always means "the grave."

I have done my research on Westboro. The whole thing is a scam. They protest in the most outlandish and insulting way, hoping for a reaction. If you react, punch one of them, slash a tire, bash in a car window. they sue you. That is how they make a living. Fred Phelps is a very bitter, very hateful, disbarred Kansas lawyer. WBC is only one of many reasons I refer to Kansas as the Land of Disenchantment.

The reason The WBC are so wrong is ......while they are technically right in what thet are saying they are missing the point that the most important teaching in the New Testament is TOLERANCE, Jesus went to great lengths to emphasise this.In fact one could say that it was the primary theme in the new testsment.

im trying to find the quote but the bible says (along these lines) 'condem people who approve of homosexuals' and if the american public is letting it happen then according to the bible westboro are right to picket dead soldiers funerals.
it also says that god will kill anyone who assists homosexuals amongst over things
so westboro are just rejoicing over the actions of their god, just like other christians go to church.
