It's also difficult to get people to admit that an absolute is rarely the best, and that reform and new thinking is the key to keeping a good thing going. Those that understand that, do well in life.

[more

EBT cards can buy you Porterhouse steak, fresh fruit and veggies, milk and bread; not just dried beans. You must be thinking of the WIC program...and what does Eminem have to do with anything? Yeah, I saw his movie 8 Mile when I was sick and hanging in bed with nothing better to do. Kim Basinger was really good in that movie I thought.

I just read through this entire thread, from start to finish...

What a frickin waste of bandwidth if you ask me, a bunch of know nothings bickering back and forth...at least I know that I know nothing...all I have is my experience.

I should probably STFU and go to bed, I know...and I'm a hypocrite for saying what I am about to say...but we Americans in particular have a habit of having a baseless OPINION and NEVER shutting up about it. And this is all I find wrong with the OCCUPY movement; without a leadership, with a frickin GOAL, it is just a bunch of people with an opinion. I'm sorry, but that is going NOWHERE. The best possible outcome is something akin to a giant MOSH PIT.

Am I a corporate shill or something? F no. I'm with the people, all the people that worked their asses off all there lives to stay on the treadmill that goes nowhere. I worked all of my life, my first job was newpaper delivery at age 11 and I worked all through high school. I was making over a 100K until four years ago, my LIVELIHOOD was stolen from me BY THE SO-CALLED 1%---STOLEN. Why? Because a 14 million dollar a year salary wasn't enough for the CEO? So, first they took our benefits, because 10 mil wasn't enough. I'm a skilled tradesman for a craft that American labor is NO LONGER NEEDED for...so I could not find a job. When the BANKERS went tits up, THEY HAD THEIR HANDS OUT...when I went to the unemployment line, my FELLOW Americans called me names.

I served in the Army, four years, and I aint no HERO, and wouldn't dare feel good being called one. Anyone that spends four years in the military and hasn't figured out the real deal is so far gone in DELUSION I wouldn't even attempt to have a conversation with them about politics...if you think what this country is doing all over the world with big guns pointed at their heads is RIGHT...then you are part of the 1%

YA, I know, we humans have to protect our egos from the truth sometimes, so lie to yourself however you want to pretend what we are doing at war for 10 years now has an altruistic motive behind it...it's BS.

Until the OWS has a leaders or leaders with a well defined GOAL, with a PURPOSE, or a CAUSE...sorry, it's just a mosh pit, and I am too OLD to get into one of those.

There is NO MOVEMENT, NO PROTEST to FIX this mess...it's going to take a power beyond human, because if you go through history, NOTHING MAN HAS EVER CREATED has EVER WORKED FOR LONG...

edit on 8-10-2011 by odd1out because: spelling etc

I gave you a star for this, very well-spoken.

However, I must contend your notion that this movement is a direction-less mosh pit. Here are some unofficial demands laid out that have widespread support:
occupywallst.org...
and
occupywallst.org...
and
occupywallst.org...

And here is the REASON why this movement has no leaders or hierarchy; WHY it is horizontal, Democratic, and peacefully Anarchic (and beautiful):
nycga.cc...

Your focusing on the bad actions taken by communists.

If you focus on the US killing the Native Americans you would probably walk away with just as negative view. I know the numbers don't compare but I'm sure they would have killed as many as they had to to claim the land.

I agree that what the US did to he Native Americans, was Genocide. Heck,Native Americans still get a raw deal,My wife is Mex/Native American). That being said,My point was to show there was nothing that Communism,in its present state, could help Americans,or anyone for that matter. Utopian dreams are just that. Fascism sounds good to some also, but would anyone risk a Fourth Reich, minus the death camps? Change is one story, but it starts with the ones who makes the laws. The Bankers are in the White House,Senate..not in Wall street. Mass protest there !!! History repeats itself,we have all seen the outcomes of it. Mad Men still run country's.Communism has survived,Fascism has also, even after the devastating actions of those waving their banners 50 to 100 years ago.

I understand completely. But our experiences shape us and our perceptions. We react to others who have other views based upon them. Sometimes we say things that don't quite come out the way we want them. I am not necessarily defending Beezer but I am confident that Beezer can defend himself, of that I am sure.

Maybe he/she is having a bad day...we've all had them. It's the interwebs. Stay true to yourself, and allow others the same. If something irritates you to the point of requiring a reply, well roll with it and have fun. But the key is to have fun…

We have to expose ourselves to differing views to grow.

You got me. Just a dumb mechanic here. Please enlighten me on how it ACTUALLY works. Is there excess, golden parachutes and such, yes. How would you change it and why can't I have an opinion you don't agree with?

I'm sorry for being condescending, but I get pretty heated over this stuff and against what I see as an army of propaganda.

What everyone should understand about Capitalism and the rest of our system is that it's not simply a matter of getting an idea, pioneering it, helping people, and profiting. There is MUCH more complexity and subsequent corruption/destruction that goes with the whole system. Any system whose foundation/effects are profit-motive, endless consumption, worship of money, wage-slavery, extreme wealth-stratification, resource exploitation/pollution, and state-sanctioned gambles/schemes that tie an entire country (or world) into a centralized economy is dangerous, oppressive, destructive, and ultimately tyrannical.

Some wisdom from my man, Chomsky:

I'm not trying to change anything.

Actually neither are you but at least I'm honest about it.

True change. You sound like the big O.

To be serious for a moment, I am trying for true change. I've even bought a domain name, bought a host server (and mucking things up right now) but I'm creating a website to promote, endorse, people in politics with honesty and integrity. Regardless of political affiliation. It's a think-tank I'm creating for people who want to see honesty without the ideology of political influences. I'm just rather poor at building website so it's taking longer than I thought it would.

So I AM doing something.

Pity more are not.

I really wish I was awake when this thread started….still trying to catch up with all the pages.

But I have to say WOW! Beez sure stirred up a hornets’ nest with a quite simple post.

Can we take a time out so I can get up to speed here?

What can I say? My confuser is slooooooow.

Simply put that is a BIG WET dream, why because most people (not all) and no specific group, are severe separatists and guess what? That's how it's so easy to control them (us) and everyone. Some people just can't look past others' flaws instead they spend all their time pointing them out and putting them down for them. Not all people are created equally or have the equal drive or health or intellect or circumstances or the same set of obstacles, but this just doesn't matter, everybody just loves to point out that they are just flawed (It really is no different than kindergarden). So until such time as that happens it isn't even 1% vs 99% (or vice versa) in everyone eyes it's them individually vs the world. And guess what they are right, Because nobody cares to do anything, but to point out their flaws. Simple. And irreversible.

Not sure if you're saying I did that? If you thought I was doing that, I wasn't. I don't care what you find wisdom in, as long as you find actual wisdom and not just propaganda.

Yes, the communists and socialists just take advantage of the history and press the guilt button to make people dance and jump to their solutions. Oh you killed the native inidans with your evil capitalism, you should make it this wonderful democracy instead and give reparations to make it all better and redistribute.....

Not implying you flipped out at all...merely that one side reacted the same to Communism as the other side reacted to Republic

Sociology is fascinating

I got accused of being a disinformation agent and a troll
I got the same attack on another thread for posting two different dictionary definitions of Democracy and Republic.....

oh an sure I quoted the first 3 presidents of the United States and what they had to say about democracy....

That was all it took

Soviet Russia wasn't communism. China has massive problems, what government they have is not anything to do with that. Compared to China of the past, they're doing awesome.

Are you kidding? What history book are you reading???????? Russia started the communist revolutionary movement worldwide. Ever hear of the Bolshevik Revolution? I cannot believe the stuff people believe.

Read the link I posted on an article from the NY times about the tyranny of Joseph Stalin. The man was crazy, that wasn't communism. He alone is to blame for the conditions in Soviet Russia.

I read the demands of the OWS,or so called demands NoHierarchy posted. One of the links seemed to be taken right from the CPUSA website. The other one seems to be what original "Tea Partiers" were calling for,"end the fed,end the wars". My conspiracy spidey senses say this.......... Americans are tired. Both parties have failed to change the laws that are broken. Both grass root parties(OWS,Tea Party) will be,if not already, hijacked by those with lined pockets, hidden agendas. Everyone in America wants real change. This is a conspiracy site,so im going to throw my conspiracy in the mix.......

What I have seen.

Socialism on the rise.Greed. No fix to the problem. Answers to nothing. Same ol same. Everyone sacrificing to live.

I smell change, but dont know which way it will blow.

Hoping for the best, actually, and common sense.
