In economic terms recession and depression are not synonyms, they're separate things.

I hate X Factor, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with you, does it? Credit people with the same intelligence you have, at least. This isn't a revivalist prayer meeting where we all have to stand up and shout 'amen' at the same time.

Can someone who know's explain why on earth these guns were sold to the cartels in the first place?
Do the US gov want to empower the cartels?
Or is this about destabilizing Mexico?
Why do they want that?

No being from the USA,I have no clue as to why the government would do this...

No being from the USA,I have no clue as to why the government would do this...
One reason would be Money.
Another would be to say, see we let our Citizens have these guns and they are selling the to the criminals in the Mexican drug cartels.
They are trying to get the guns out of US American Citizens hands, that's how they do it, that how they did it in Australia.
They say look how bad these guns are.

It's the means to a end, our end, the US will be one of the last stands for freedom, once they get our guns the entire world is doomed.

The claim was that selling guns to known cartel smugglers to carry back to Mexico would give the US information on the structure and the names of those in control. Of course even with that information the US had no authority to make any arrests in Mexico so that notion is a bust from the very beginning.

Only American law enforcement would think that handing money and weapons over to a wanted man would somehow increase safety and security for the population. We do this sort of thing a lot apparently.
cops will have gang summits with crime bosses who they know are crime bosses then just let them leave after some discussion. The system sure seems selective enough when it comes to arresting killers and smugglers but they just dont get any wiggle room when it comes to pot smokers do they? Have to give them the full brunt of the mighty law.

Anyway, the real reason? Could be anything. Destabilize Mexico, increase drug cartel power in the US, push further blame on the ills of the world on the 2nd Amendment, anything. Maybe all of that and maybe none of that.

Our government is sick and crazy.

I can't help but think what a weak excuse this administration uses to justify the implementation of this "Fast and Furious" farce, and that makes me very suspicious.

I haven't even started reading the comments here yet because I have things to do and need to get my thoughts out quickly, so I'll apologise ahead of time if I'm repeating the thoughts of others.

Think about it...the claim is that the ATF surreptitiously shipped thousands of guns to Mexican drug cartels in the hopes of tracking them? Are you kidding me? Maybe it's just me, but this explanation makes no sense whatsoever for so many reasons:

1. Any brain-dead idiot would have known that thousands of guns will ultimately cause thousands of deaths in the hands of ruthless criminals like these, so the ATF surely knew that they would be directly responsible for the loss of innocent lives. So what genius is thought this would be a good idea, and who would have approved it?

2. As everyone knows, cartel violence has spilled over into the US, so it just stands to reason that innocent Americans would be killed with these weapons, and most probably, law enforcement agents, there really were no surprises there, other than the fact that the truth somehow got out.

3. The ATF has no jurisdiction in Mexico, and there is nothing in the news about cooperation from the Mexican government AFAIK, so what were they going to do once they figured out where the guns were going? Legally, they could only tell the Mexican authorities, and hope that they miraculously swooped in and wiped out the cartels, and we all know the chances of that are absolutely non-existent, so obviously the ATF also knew that.

4. Even if they were able to trace the guns, and even if the ATF went in and illegally tried to fight the much better armed cartels (in part thanks to the ATF), they wouldn't have put a dent in the cartels' numbers or firepower, and the thousands of weapons would still be out there killing innocent people. Did they not think of this?

I could go on, but I want to get to the point.

Remember when Hillary and Obama was screaming about how 95% of the guns obtained by the cartels came from the US? Remember how it got some people talking about stricter guns laws? Well only those who chose to dig deeper into what ultimately turned out to be an enormous lie know that the US was only allowed to trace specific serial numbers on specific weapons, thus skewing the numbers. 95% was nowhere near the truth. The truth was more like 18%, which caused a lot of embarrassment for the Obama administration, which caused the story to die.

My contention is this: The Obama administration wanted to flood Mexico with weapons from the US so that US law enforcement would eventually find that indeed 95% originated from the US, thus creating the "necessity" for stricter gun laws, including gun registration. And who better to blame for the death of innocent Americans than "gun-friendly" Arizona?

Imagine how easy it would be to disarm the American public if we suddenly were required to register all weapons or face a long jail sentence. Call me paranoid, but I have no doubt that this was the real motivation, and if true, everyone involved has committed a heinous act of treason and should be tried and executed.

Obama's backdoor attempt at gun control has been blown wide open.

Obama and Holder, in their knowledge (if not outright planning and execution) of this operation, are at minimum accessories to murder.

Thanks googolplex and thisguyrighthere for explaining some possible motives.
It sounds insane to me,although I know how low many governments will stoop(including my own).

So in order to get the support to tighten gun control the US gov is selling guns to murderous drug traffickers...

Imagine if Iran started impotring guns and selling them to the drug gangs in the USA...There would probably be a war launched against them by the US for trying to wreak society.

What a great morally upstanding president you must have to be able to sell guns to drug dealing killers.(sarc).
It beggars belief really.

Its pretty simple, the cartels that launder their money in US banks directly connected to the Fed are left alone, and the cartels that do not launder their money in those banks are targeted by ATF and FBI.

Wow. I can't even..THIS mother#er(Obama) is done. when Forbes drops something like this on you, that's pretty much yo ass. if you're on the west coast..those guns didn't just go to mexico. illegals brought 'em with, and they were used in arizona, NM, california(particularly san diego/L.A.). that's a direct threat to the people... and that they WANTED crime to go up to justify more gun control laws..sacrificing people for politics like that..well, if they'll do illegal wars and 9/11 and everything else, this is small change to the US govt, huh..they need to invoke 25 on obama just for thinking of something like this..he's clearly out of his #ing mind.

Obama doesn't care about the media: Nor the people: His only desire is power. When a man has everything he could desire in this world the only thing left is control over the masses. Power: Far more desirable than money because it is money. There is only one reason for a person, group, [media] or entity to remain silent and biased.
They fear something. They already have money, and lots of it so what else could they possibly fear? Someone with more money/power than they. Someone in control of them. It is the only thing that can do what is described in this thread. Obama fears nothing and no one. He is to be watched closely. Fast and furious was a test: only a test:
It will not be an Obama Watergate. He doesn't care. elected or not he could very easily simply declare a national emergency: and remain in power cancelling all elections. He could be just testing the waters to see just how much power he can really enjoy. Or then again, someone behind him may just be twisting his arm. either way it is only a test. They didn't care about the guns or who got killed or caught in F&F. They really think they can do this thing.
These people are so arrogant that they believe they can do anything they wish. ...well so far they have and Fast and Furious is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Obama administrations gun control agenda is no secret. Remember that Obama completely bypassed congress to launch the "peace operation" in Libya, and declared that authority was granted by the United Nations. The sculpture in front of the UN building in New York is a revolver tied in a knot. The revolver is a civilian weapon. You're not going to see a tank barrel or fully automatic rifle tied in a knot in front of a globalist building. Both parties want civilians disarmed and stormtroopers armed to the teeth.

Sure, anyone who genuinely desires accountability from government would go back and put Reagan or the Bush's on trial... we missed that opportunity, but we have a chance now to set the precedent and make a statement. It might hurt the feelings of the people who
voted this man to office...fine, hold the next administration accountable.

No amount of George Soros or Rupert Murdock money (yes, both sides are protecting each other) is going to make this issue disappear. We know the tricks. WE ARE AWAKE.

The American obsession with gun ownership is even sadder than this farcical tale. It's all based on a misinterpretation of the constitution, from back when it was necessary to arm people in order to raise armed militias for security. No such need exists now.

Except there are people who think Obama is the exact opposite, an active supporter of Israel. I know that is counter-intuitive to the 'Secret Muslim/Not American' narrative, but it's there nonetheless.

after witnessing cops busting heads at occupy wall street rally here in new york last week, I wholeheartedly disagree. it's about defending yourself from the tyranny of the state as well as your fellow man. bloomberg is about to lay the smackdown on the whole thing. it's gonna be ugly.

That tyranny is here.

"Misinterpretation of the Constitution"??!! Could you elaborate on that? Seeing as I always thought the part where it says we have the right to own weapons was pretty self explanatory.

And I thought I made my reasoning perfectly clear too. I'm talking about the time in which it was written and the context in which the decision was made. It's like believing in parts of the Bible that only apply to a desert nomadic lifestyle three thousand years ago.

Any way, never mind all that. Besides all our baseless chatter, have the journalists come up with anything else concrete since this article was printed?

I suspect it will be well buried. Just is anything but fast and furious these days. I'm just surprised no one has connected the dots between fast and furious and the canadian gun registry. Warehouse loads of registered Canadian guns purchased for penies on the dollar and dumped on our poor Mexican brothers.

Two men plead guilty but it's not Obama or Holder

Hmmmm... Bad link but you get the picture.
