Huge UFO Caught On Satellite Imaging Over Chile (1992)

I myself just stumbled across this tonight and thought it was rather interesting as I had never seen nor hear about it. So, I thought I would share it. Knowing ATS, it has probably all ready been covered in the past, but still might be interesting to the new folks.

Even though this happened back in 1992 and was aired as you will see in 1999, it is still a bit mind boggling to think something this big is floating around over our heads. To think how many may not be captured like this one was, can boggles the mind even more.

On Tuesday, January 26, 1999, TV viewers in Chile were astonished when a Santiago station broadcasted satellite video images of disc-shaped UFOs measuring hundreds of miles in diameter.

The video images were aired by Television de la Universidad Catolica (TV-UC) on Canal (Channel) 13. The video footage was shot by Geostationary Orbital Environmental Satellite 8 (GOES-8) on two separate occasions a few years ago.

According to Chilean ufologist Luis Sanchez Perry, the program "showed an infrared photo taken by GOES-8 on July 17, 1992, clearly showing a large disc-shaped object in outer space above the Pacific Ocean in front of (just west of) the Chilean coast."

According to Mario Vilches, the gigantic saucer measured "400 kilometers (240 miles) in diameter."

The July 1992 image was captured by Servicio Aereo Fotometrico Ltda., an airmapping business in Santiago de Chile, the national capital.

"The lines that can be seen in front of the UFO belong to electromagnetic interference that came from the UFO," Sanchez explained.

Here is something more on it (direct statement) from the Chilean Director of Skywatch:

The original image has been colored for analysis purposes and temperature variation is 40°C between colors. The black ring shows a temperature over 50°C and in the central part about 10°C. The lines that can be seen in front of the UFO belong to electromagnetic interference that apparently eminates from the UFO. Importantly this does not represent a malfunction with this satellite, for similar photo's were taken by GOES image servers around the world and erased very quickly in the U.S.A.

To me it looks like one satellite took a picture of another satellite. I mean that does sort of look like another satellite! And where are the original images? Why provide just the colorized images, when everybody wants to see the originals untouched?

Its either a lens cap or, they're HEEERE!

I was wondering if something with this size would interfere with sunlight in the day and starlight at night in such a way that would be noticable from observers on the ground. Was any weirdness like this reported in those areas at the time frames given or any other times? It seems like with the dimensions given it would be noticed. In south america they love UFOs so much, it's part of their ingrained mythology. Even the news there will go out of their way to fake stuff.

And they could gather all the details on it's speed and size huh?

I could make that image using PAINT. At least they could have done was change the view of the craft's position in the 'second' video. Oh and doesn't video imply moving? How come I only ever see images?

Am I the only one that asks questions without wetting my pants at first?

This UFO has been done many times before on ATS.

Its the moon.

I went and checked out your link, thank you for that, but I still have to ask, why would the moon have what appears to be a flat side like the pictures above? Just curious.

Atmospheric distortion maybe? Its also possible its a result of the type of imaging the satellite uses. Its geared towards certain phenomenoms, and I dont think observing the moon is one of them.

Plus if you check the follow up pic showing the moon looking similiar, keep in mind the Chilean one states its off the coast looking at Chile. If thats the case then it would also be seeing the moon. In the second follow up photo the moon in in the lower right of the picture.

Looking directly at the coast would place the moon back into that general vicinity.

Everyone always has an answer to sightings. Of course the US is going to tell you its the moon... crap the picture got out.. we gotta make a story now!

But as the above poster asked.. why would it appear oval.. on its side.. platter shaped. And someone mentions imaging software. Possibility? Sure anything is possible. But how about the possibility that ummm.... it is a UFO? Because its always easier to say its something we understand. Because we dont understand everything.

The appearance of not perfectly round isn't my beef.

I actually find it odd that the moon wouldn't emit more of a temperature gradiant on this so called infrared spectrum weather satellite?

Considering how long it takes the moon to rotate fully on its axis, shouldn't we be seeing a more blurry gradiant of IR radiation?

If this wasn't an IR image one could easily guess that part of the moon was reflecting radiation much stronger than the rest of the moon (which could also account for its lopsided shape too).

I'm not saying it's an alien. I'm just curious about the IR emissions with respect to this picture. Although I'm sure the picture could be a fake too?

The GOES satellites dont take photographs of the whole earth at one click, like a film camera.
The camera, a Visible and Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer, or VISSR. scans across the field of view.

According to THIS PAGE, the camera takes 18 minutes to take a picture of the earth.
In this 18 minutes, it is still orbiting, moving, the moon is rising or setting, and appears as a moving object during the time taken to image it. Thats why it isnt round shaped.

There are many possibility's why it appears the way it does so I can't say for sure what the exact reason is but I think it's safe to say, if it isn't the Moon this would have been plastered all over the MSM news !


The only ufo satellite image that I'm aware of that is still a mystery is this one ...

Take it for what you will, I don't think the moon gives of electromagnetic interference to display such distinctive rings as seen from the pictures.
