Well, here is to the future competition then
Keep in mind that America responds very well to external pressure or threat ... and innovation is built into our cultural psyche ...

how are you going to compete with chinese compaines already ocked deep into the american economy. a country that is also your allies biggest or second biggest trade partner.? tell them not to trade with china

Actually IMO the way to hurt the U.S. is to lull us into a complacent sleep and quietly supplant us ... any active or visible threat can and will be dealt with accordingly.

... and would you not admit that given the global situation of today ... the glaringly obvious candidate for this is China (as viewed by the U.S.)?

Basic problem solving methodology:

1. Accurate appraisal of situation or problem - completed.
2. Strategy to minimize/eliminate problem - pressent situation.

hmmmm ... well at the very least it should be interesting.

now your a US policy maker

??? If your not at war whos going to block your ships from going out into the ocean?

whos going to contest you in international waters.?

well.. thats quite simple.. those who do not want china to gain access to international waters.. THose who are already well established and uncontested in international waters..

Those who have strategic bases along the periphery of the chinese coastline to employ such a virtual blockade..

Bases in the:

Phillipines: 750-1000km of Chinese mainland
Guam(Northern Mariannas): 2000km of chinese mainland
Okinawa:750 km off China AND taiwan as well
Also bases in Kyushu and Honshu as well (Japan)

I must say the US has the east coast of china covered pretty well!

And if there was no problem then chinese naval forces would be out in the deep pacific..
But that doesn't happen, even with the DDGs and Sovermenys they have..

You forgot Singapore, they are letting the USN use a large pier there.

Actually the question was genuine, I had no idea of your background beyond
recent posting info ... and "paper & pencil" while humorous is quite vague - would you not agree?

Actually no, trade is fine and to be encouraged and to a reasonable degree the functional trade of consumer grade technology as a side effect.

But ... this does not include military grade tech or classified developments ... these as has always been the case will be witheld for internal use /exploitation.

Keep in mind that by addressing modern concerns in business practice and cultural "bleedover" ... the Chinese are being affected by the West in a likewise fashion ...

Thus ... the irony of this dilemma ... in order to beat us, you must play the capitalist game and become more like us ...

... and the more like us you become ... the greater our true victory.

aww screw you.. you don't understand what I'm saying..
Can Iran take its subs/ships etc etc. out into (and beyond the Persian Gulf) unchecked..
NO!!
Do the Iranian ships have that capability??!
YES
Are the US and Iran at war??!
NO!!

Does the Paksitani Navy conduct exercises 500km into the Arabian Sea??
NO!!
The IN will go and.. errr.. "cramp" them up for space if you will..
One doesn't need to fire a shot to enforce a military blockade..

This is actually very well said. It's a two way street though. A small example is the import of American movie theatre chains into China, while Chinese born directors are being imported into Hollywood. Maybe in the end the "victory" is for all mankind. However, inorder to get there, closed minded remarks like that quoted above will have to be replaced.
